I'm looking for a 500GB EHD and I'm just wondering if there are any brands to avoid or what the best deal would be. I'm checking on Best Buy's website to see what's available, but I don't know which ones are good quality-wise. Can anyone offer me some insight? Thanks! :goodjob:

Is Circuit City still open? They had some pretty good closing sales...

Seagate Showcase 500GB...It's DISH compatible. You can find in on the Seagate web site, but you'll have to look hard for it.

Ohhhh yea good call. They're closing all over and I know they've got some good prices.

What about certain brands though. I don't want mine to crap out randomly.

I bought a Western Digital 500 G

Now I am selling it because I bought the Terabyte version of it...

I like it because it looks like a book that goes on a shelf

Seagate is money from all I've been told and mine is quality.

avoid accomdata and maxtor for sure, also ibooks aren't the greatest.

I have a western digital. I heard that who Toshiba or some big company uses for their laptops. Are you looking to get a portable one of one that plugs into the wall?

Just buy a cheap IDE or SATA drive and pick up a USB enclosure for cheap. Western Digital FTW for magnetic storage.

Surprised no one has mentioned looking on NewEgg yet. As for brands I like Seagate and Westerndigital.

Western Digital drives are really good. I have one that is really small and USB powered and makes no noise, some of the bigger ones humm all the time. From my experience seagate and WD are the ones to get.
