Apparently AT&T is getting serious about their data usage, haha! I'm allocated 5GB of transfer per month on my USBConnect and I used 8.1GB last month....at about $500 p/ 1 GB overages I'm screwed, lolol!

After AT&T was alerted of the usage they gave me a call, luckily they're going to credit me for last month BUT I'm already at 4.9+GB this month and it's only been two (2) weeks...AT&T suggested I return my USBConnect and go with a competitor that has unlimited usage, lol! I'm not aware of any companies offering unlimited modem data.

Sooo...I'm thinking about buying a Blackberry and using it as a 3G modem for my laptop. For $35 p/ month I can get unlimited data usage on it and stay with AT&T. Will it work? Am I still bound to the 5GB transfer even though it's an "unlimited" media service? You think they'll catch on?! Any other ideas? :ninja:

I work for AT&T.fuckit, I just ordered cable internet 5 minutes ago. I didn't want to be bound to a contract at a home I'll be moving from in 9 months not to mention pay a $50 installation charge for them to ship me a box with a CD in it lol. If I could make internet with a waterwheel and solar panels I would, oh well!

Not going to work as we have usuage levels for everything (most compaines do), also you have to pay 40-50 for blk berry data/tether. Also the speeds will be much less than your data card. I don't sell the tether package for pdas, b/c it is just not worth it b/c of the speed/price.

All compaines at one point said that they wre unlimited, but they just didn't tell custs b/c rarely normal users would never reach the limit. The same goes for your dsl at home, their limits on that to. Wireless networks will always have limits, might want to talk to cust service about getting on a business plan for the data card

Wireless networks will always have limits, might want to talk to cust service about getting on a business plan for the data cardA myspace page alone is 3 to 5MB minimum each time it loads...not counting logging in and going to the home page!

I've been connected since 2pm and have done 1.54 GB's transfer just from browsing Bimmerforums, Importatlanta, logging onto myspace once for 5 minutes then logging off, and checking my gmail twice but not actually opening any e-mails. 1/2 a day and I've already did 25% of my allowed monthly usage...that is complete BULLSHIT. If i'm over my 5GB allowance then I just blew over $500 in internet usage in the last 12 hours.

I've checked AT&T's website and I don't see any other data plans other than the one $60 p/ month for 5GB. :dunno:

*edit*
So i just put my acceleration to the 2nd highest level, it's 1 step from not showing images at all just so I can save some bandwidth...being forced to see photos in that quality makes me want to kick elderly peoples walkers and baby strollers.

If you get the new Blackberry Bold then you should get the same speed because it runs on the 3G network just like your USB card... there are no rate plans that allow more then 5GB. Tethering for the Blackberry is $60.

Tethering for the Blackberry is $60.After reading the fine print in the "unlimited" media package I discovered the maximum 5GB transfer when tethering still applies. It's cool, once I get the home internet connected I won't be using the data card nearly as much. I realize 5GB is only about 7 full CD's worth of data but I was sold on the data card with the impression it would be extremely difficult to reach the data transfer limit. I'm not streaming porn and not operating a server, just normal everyday browsing.

The funny part is I was planning to build a 3G amplifier/repeater setup for about $200 so I could enhance my connection by 35+db...giving me at least 2 extra bars of 3G service since I'm lucky to even get 1 bar at home. Screw that, lol. If I improved my connection I'd just be able to browse faster and transfer more data...i'd have a $5,000 phone bill next month lolol!

Did you sign on with Comcast? Cable Internet with no contract. I paid a monthly premium and I think $5.00/month for the modem. Just cancelled it when we moved, and no fees for disconnect or anything. Better than $2K phone bill!!!

Not completely true. I have AT&T DSL and it is unlimited. I download 24/7/365 on 6mb DSL.
I also have worked at AT&T for several years.
Comcast does have limits, they just don't publish what they are. If you go over their unwritten limits, they kick you off their service. There is lots of documentation on those cases.

I have windstream 12mbps DSL, and I guarantee you I go well over 100gb a month between my three computers that are constantly downloading/uploading/streaming, and two xbox 360's always connected to the internet, usually gaming online. Not to mention the fact that my wife checks her facebook/email/shops online/uploads pics to shutterfly/other useless BS about 50 times more a day than I do.. She probably uses 100gb a month by herself... I pay $34.99/mo.

I think thats fucked up how there site says UNLIMITED.. but is all about the fine print now a days.
I think they should change the website to say 5gb. Really who the fuck reads mice print anyways... :lmfao:

Yup they are good, but due to a few reason:

1 - They mostly only provide service in the boondocks.

2- There service area is smaller then a ant hill.

3- Meaning not many users sucking juice

Which is better for there current users.. ;)

I connected at 2pm and only got on bimmerforums and Importatlanta and by midnight I had done over 1.2GB's. Wasn't on AIM/Trillian, streaming music/video, nothing. Just viewing photos and posting on two forums. I uploaded a total of 12 photos on each forum that equaled 1.0MB...so 2.0MB between the 2 forums. Never once erased my cache so viewing a thread more than once never required a re-load.

I even slept for 3 of those 10 hours, went and played volleyball, had dinner, household errands, etc. so it's not like I was clicking for 10 hours straight. 5 hours of browsing = 1.2GB in data transferred.

AT&Ts been being a bitch anyway. They've been trying to overcharge us on out dsl and phone bill for the last 3 months for calls and shit we havent even made. I kinda wish bellsouth was still around...

On topic, i would keep calling AT&T I think they have unlimited usage but you have to bug them about it. But then again they could have fucked people over and dropped it.
