Now apparently as I used to advertise. I had phenomenal credit (considering I paid no attention.) But this urks me. I decided to see if I could finance me a cheap new car. Nissan Sentra/Versa. I went to the dealership, got the cost all the way down to 14,900 and they ran a credit check.
It was all good and dandy as I was aware I did not have my 719 score of before, after financing college, phones, personal loan and so on. He gave me the news that I had a 654 and was unable to get the loan in my name due to me not having "enough" credit. So unfortunatly he couldnt finance me, though I've worked stable for 5+ years at jobs where the ratio of payment/income is roughly 2:1.
I mean, WTF am I suppose to do? Buy MORE stuff I dont need? Be a person who doesnt buy with cash and just spends beyond his means? Didnt America just get hit with reality? Why not allow someone capable of affording a cheap form of transportation to purchase if he/she has the mindset to live within those means?
I think its severly annoying like the birth certificate/SS card mystery, if u lose one or the other and need one back. Frustrating!!! :locked: <<<couple words

Your first EXACT step would be to get your official credit report...the detailed one, like an actual printout.
See what's on there, collections 30 60 90 day lates etc.
Ask the dealer rep if he can give it to you "so you can work it out then return to him in the near future"

^^ exactly. Get your own financing.
You should easily be able to get your own financing with a 654 (not bad at all) and a bit of history. What is on your credit right now? Have you had a few accounts open for a few years?
It's usually better to get your own financing anyway (unless you can get one of those 0% specials from the manufacturers credit program or something very very low). When you secure your own financing, you already know exactly what you can afford and you can focus on the price of the car instead of the payments. So many people buy cars by payment and don't realize how much they are paying in total, usually way too much.

I think you are seeing one of the byproducts of the weak economy. Unless you have outstanding credit, people are nervous about giving loans to anyone. Part of it is a lack of capital, the other part is the weak job market.
As said though, get your own financing and be ready to use that to get an even better rate from a dealership. I did that with my wifes car. They offered 4.9 originally, but when I came back with a 1.9 offer from her credit union they countered with 0.0.

I hope this pisses you off and makes you pay more attention to who you vote for and who you bank with. You see these bastards called banks asked for a bailout when they should have been allowed to fail, got bailout money but now don't want to lend it out.
Its not just you. Tons of solid American citizens are getting turned down b/c the credit line is just frozen. 700 doesn't even guarantee a loan anymore.
Try a credit union. Remember that since you applied, you have 2 weeks to apply to as many places as possible and only getting 1 hit on your credit score.

I cant get my own financing from my credit union. I dont use a bank and never really want to. Wachovia messed the chances of my banking at another bank. My "history" is still to short. I dont understand it.
sick: What? Voted for? I'm not gonna entertain all that nonsense. This even happened BEFORE Presidency

Just go join one and tell them the circumstances. Its worth a try if you haven't already done so.

a good part of your problem may be the fact that you dont have a bank account. Even if you dont really use it, you should really open an account at one (preferably a credit union) and just let it sit.

This is a result of the economy and the way lenders have been burned. Although 15k isn't exactly a cheap form of transportaion. I much prefer buying a low cost used car (less then 5k) and paying cash for it.
