Cruise for Kids

Hows it going everybody? This is the official announcement of the First annual Lubys Cruise for Kids. This year we will be doing a cruise to benefit Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta. The entry fee will be one new unwrapped toy. The cruise will be on dec 20th @ 12:30. We will all meet up at Lubys Bar and Grill in Lawrenceville. After the cruise we will head back to Lubys for one last Tuner Meet before Christmas. Remember guys and gals this is for some very deserving children who dont get to spend the holidays at home with thier family and friends like all of us. Lets put a smile on those faces and feel good at the same time.
The route and the plan:
-We will leave Luby's and head 85S to 285W. From there we will head to 400N and head up to 136 and take a left. We will take a right on 9 and head through Dahlonega. Taking 129 up Blood Mountain to 180. From there we will take 60 back down and head back to 400. Back down in Atlanta we will get off 400 at Johnson Ferry and head to the hospital.
-The plan is to pull into the hospital at the main entrance and single file line up in the drive. The cars will be safe there and we will try not too block the whole thing since there are two lanes. If you have a passenger, they can go in the entrance and drop the present off at the main desk, or go in yourself and drop it off.

We ran the whole route today and had a great time. When we stopped by the hospital, they were excited to see us next weekend. :yes:

Yeah, I have a 4g63... But with a slipping clutch it don't really matter. lol... Clutch will be delivered next week so just depends... I would love to go if I get the clutch installed in time. This is an awesome cause.

I don't know how many cars will be there, but it might also make sense to have multiple mini-groups so everyone can have fun based on their comfort level with their cars. That way no one is forced to exceed their (or their car's) safety zone. We can perhaps catch up at 2-3 points in the run so we don't all get separated.

Also, I'll have an open seat in my car. However, I don't know how to say this without being a jerk - but I prefer a light passenger since my car will scrape badly with anyone over 150 pounds. When being aggressive it'll still scrape on every sharp turn.

:rant: you know what sucks??? i went to some other local sites to see if there is anyone interested and to see if this event had been posted and so far the only site that seems to give a damn is IA. im sitting here trying to figure out why. i could only come up with one reason, and thats because i honestly think that people's egos get put in check so often in here that they actually start to give a damn. helping out the community should make everyone feel better. helping those in need should make you feel better. maybe some of us have a heart while others dont. sorry about the rant but seeing people being selfish this time of year makes me sick. thank you to all that are involved in this and are helping those that NEED cheere in their lives for atleast one day so happy. as of right now there seems like mother nature is going to throw a monkey wrench into our plans. If the weather is not satisfactory for the mountain run we will use an alternate route and postpone the mountain run to a date yet to be determined for safety reasons. lets all pray for good weather for saturday!!!!!!

Yea it says "few showers". Any rain will make it very unsafe for me and I'll have to pass on the run that day. We can still go to the hospital and heck maybe spend a little more time there. Either way the purpose will be achieved.

thats our thought about it also. the alternate route will be a slow highway cruise going up 85 to 20 and then back down again. however we do have a couple of days for it to be a certain that it will rain. like stated before the mountain run will be rescheduled if we dont have prime conditions keep your eyes to the sky and hope everything clears up by then.:ninja:

Was thinking I had said this before now, guess I never posted it but I am not going to be able to make it. =( I have to go out of town in the morning on short notice to be with a friend thats going through a lot right now and needs someone there. well, just a few hours till we meet up. it's a little damp outside, but don't let that hamper your spirits for i have good news. last night me, gtsdrftr, dirty mech, and friends took the donation money to Walmart and went shopping for kids. In a little over one weeks time, including the people there's money, we were able to raise $240. Shopping for those kids was soo much fun, and we got some cool stuff for them.

A very big thank you to everyone for coming out today. I just wish that we could see the smiles on those faces christmas day. Not many issues on the run stupidity kept to a minimun. For a two week notice this turn out was more than we could have expected or dreamnt about. Thank you IA thank you tuners. We are already in talks for a spring charity cruise to benefit St Judes Hospital more details to come later!!!!

So far all we have heard is great feed back from everyone that went with us on this cruise. we were thinking of waiting to plan the next one but....... there are so many good ideas that i need to share them with our event coordinators asap. the date for the next cruise will be in late march/early april so we will definitly be able to have two or three routes picked out in case of bad weather and or traffic concerns. so we dont have the same last minute plans that we did yesterday. btw sorry for the delay yesterday but we wanted to wait for the majority of the rain to pass.
