View Full Version : Leaking Transmission.. help

my old car has a leaking transmission. i took a look at it today and one of the bolts that goes through the tranny was tightened too much or something and there is a small crack starting from the hole. anyone know of a shop where i can get this welded or any better options? i really dont want to get a new transmision if that can be avoided. btw the car is automatic. reps for help

yea a freind told me to get it TIG welded? how much do u think this would cost?? the crack is less than in inch long

well if it is easy to get to, not to much. hard to get to, a lil more. the also have to make sure that the area was clean.

Telling ya, JB weld or some epoxy, if it's just a hairline crack or something. Cheap and holds fine.

What kind of car are you working with?

its a 96 civic. the crack is relatively easy to get to and is very small yet trans fluid drips from there pretty quickly

Dont use the pack that uses the red tube an black tube JB weld it takes to long to dry! like 15hours-24 hours to cure

Use the pack that includes 2 tubes one orange,an one blue tube this pack will dry in about 45mins cured!

drill 2 holes besides the crack, stick in 2 screws and a rubberband that shit together

You can not weld that crack with any type of fluid leaking out. You'll have to take the trans out, turn it upside down, and then clean the crack so no oil residue is anywhere near it. When you heat it during a weld, it will draw the fluid out of the crack contaminating the weld.

As said, JB weld.

as long as he wipes it out clean an dry it , and the fluid settles he will be fine i done this to honda/acura tranny about

aite, well i jus JB welded it today. i actually used JB WELD KWIK or sumthing like that, the suggested orange/blue bottle i'll let u guys know if it holds or not. thanks for advice

jb weld will do the trick just make sure the area is really clean and dry before u put the jb weld on

if that doesnt work you can use an aluminim rod with a stick if you can keep it dry but thats gona be hard
