I have a few questions.......

1- its verizon only right? Or....?

2- can you text internationally with this... OR cant you connect with anyone in the world that also has a blackberry too? Does this cost extra or? Do you have to be on a certain network in order to do so or is it ANY blackberry?

3- Good phone?

I have an enV at the moment, I LOVE IT... BUT I am prospecting getting a blackberry, and id like to know this stuff before the purchase. Little help would be appreciated. THANKS!

1 - no, its not just Verizon that has blackberries.

2 - i'm not sure how the BlackBerry messenger works, never used it.... And only the BlackBerry World edition has global interconnectivity.

3 - honestly, I'd rather have a Treo 800w. The availability of applications for Windows Mobile 6.0 puts the Berry OS to shame by comparison.

Do you know about how much extra it is for the AIM style stuff?

Thanks for the info guys...

I know with the enV now, I cant text internationally... SO, if I did get the blackberry, I could connect with someone in london? If they had a blackberry too?

Usually AIM is covered under the data/internet package which is pretty much required with the blackberry anyway.

I have a 8330 with Verizon. The phone came with AIM, MSN Messenger, Yahoo Instant Messenger. (on the phone) It appeared to me anyway. I use AIM, don't use the others. I of course have the Data Plan with it so...it's all unlimited for me.

I don't know anything about the world edtion.

But I can say I love my Blackberry -- BUT the battery life on mine...is NOT good. It has to be charged everyday (I text a lot) and it basically seems as though I need another battery and the phone is only like 2 months old.

I personally think it's wiser to have a Blackberry with Verizon vs the other carriers.

switch to at&t and get the BB bold.. which is the best BB on the market..and ill sell it to you.. and at&t has voice capabilities in over 200 countries and data in 150 countries.. lol

Hah, it's funny how Verizon tries so hard to market their BB as a WORLD EDITION :lmfao: Get you almost ANY AT&T phone and it'll be a "world edition" phone. GSM is the global standard. CDMA is garbage. ANY phone nowadays can text internationally, as long as you type in the # correctly and have the right provisioning, which should be any regular text provisioning.

BB messaging works just like any chat (AIM/MSN/ICQ/etc...), and it is included when you get the BB data plan, so this means if someone has a BB overseas and you have their PIN #, you can message each other back and forth without having international charges ;)

BB's are awesome phones

can THEY text you??

wouldnt they have to have the blackberry world also??

i know with tmobile i can text internationally... like i can text my friend in canada but i cant call her or else its long distance. maybe canada doesnt count as "international"

My phone can call canada no problem... but I cant call my boyfriend in england unless I get the long distance plan, for now I am using a phone card.

I think it can be any blackberry, they all have the ping or PIN thing... doesnt have to be the world from my understanding.

I went to verizon BTW, already upgraded my phone a couple months ago, an blackberry right now is 420$ for me new. Ima get a used one and call it a day.

So she can text but drop more calls?

GSM is the WORLD standard, not the US standard.

There is a reason Verizon has the "biggest network"
Stability

The US doesnt have the GSM capabilities that Europe and Asia do.

CDMA is more stable and runs at a higher frequency, which allows it to be faster more dependable.

Stick with your Verizon Service. If your BF has a BB, then theoretically you should be able to PIN message him regardless of where he is as long as there is service there.

If not, just ask to have the international features added (For some reason I think there is a charge for international texting on Verizons plans) I can try and look tomorrow....

That or AIM. BTW, even if you dont get the BB, your bf could instant message you on AIM by typing +1(Phone number) in the Screen name box and it will come to your phone like a text....

Just no activation fee and the 69 per month or whatever for the 450 minutes and the blackberry to work. I am keeping the enV regardless and will prob. get a blackberry... just because it will be easier for work too. I travel a lot, and would be nice to access everything at one time.

Blackberry's are great phones. To bad most people now dont use it for what they are really meant for.

Mostly used now for a fashion statement.

I really like the PING feature on it... use it !

I am using mine for work purposes mainly. I got an older blackberry so mine is far from a "fashion statement" haha.. plus I am able to communicate easier with my boyfriend in England.

PING ftw.
