mr2 vs. ae86....which is better?

So I just got a first gen. mr2 a couple weeks ago. I was looking into an ae86, but after doing some research I decided an mr2 was a better choice. Cheaper, even in good condition, much better suspension setup, and just way fuckin cooler/more fun to drive. So my friend and I got into an argument, he thinks the ae86 is an all around better car. IMO you would have to be a drifter fag to say an ae86 is better than an mr2 stock for stock in any way. I think the ae86 is a bit lighter but that's it. I'm just curious to know what everyone else thinks.

But anyway, I don't really understand why the aw11 doesn't get more credit. Toyota fucked the mr2 over. They built a better car, but because the ae86 was destined to be the "flagship" car it got all of the factory support with racing and popular exposure. Anyone I've asked who has had both says the mr2 is way better. My friend is the only one so far who disagrees, but he also thinks Nissan still makes 300zx's so I guess his opinion isn't real.

And yea I'm talking 1st gen. I don't know shit about the second gen.

lolol I know I know. I like the ae86, but I wanted something really different for my first import. I saw the aw11 and I just had to do it. With the straight out of 89 suspension it handles like it's on rails, I can't wait to actually start modding this beast.

Seriously, this thing is so amazingly fun. I never thought I would be able to live without a radio, but I don't even care that I don't have one right now. Driving this car is just the shit. I really want to do the blacktop swap, but it's also tempting to find a SC for my motor and get it at around 180-200 hp and ride out. Probably be about the same cost either way.

If you want to build a car for cornering, then there is something wrong with solid axles. It's possible to corner well in a solid axle vehicle, but obviously four-wheel independent suspension is the best formula.

The MR2 will outhandle the AE86, stock for stock. Id depends on what you are looking for. I am partial to the MR2, but they are both great cars.


note: As per the suspension. The mkI MR2 suspension came from the corolla.

Not that a specific Gen MR2 was listed in the thread title, but ANY gen MR2 is > than an AE86. MR2's are hands down better cars, after all the AW11 was intended as a SPORTS CAR, not an economy grocery getter (turned mad tyte drifter). they got the better motors (large port(7rib)/GZE > small port(3rib), better engine placement, better suspension set up, better aerodynamics, better factory options, and IMHO better looking.
