The Koreans have gotten their allocation of the new 2009 Hyundai Genesis Coupes and it seems like one customer felt his Genesis Coupe could push the limits a little more than he thought possible. Needless to say that he learned the hard way by crashing into the concrete base of a metal light pole.
As you can see from the images, the 2.0T Genesis Coupe you see here was the only car involved in the accident leading us to believe that the driver lost control and the Brembo brakes of the Genesis weren’t strong enough to slow him down.
What’s more interesting is that the airbags failed to deploy. You can see that the front driver side received the most damage. Wonder what Hyundai has to say about this.

I did a little digging. The reason apparently for the Air Bags going off is that they are designed not to go off when the driver is not wearing a seat belt (which this driver wasn't)

 Wasn't a callout. I saw this last friday just forgot to post it. If anything I'm glad it held up as well as it did. The crumple zones did their job and both driver and passenger walked away with virtually no injuries.
Guess the koreans know how to do something well after all

Glad the airbag safety system works, it's the same one in my girl's accent. It's designed to do two things: Not deploy airbags that are unnecessary in the event of a minor crash (Passenger front and side and rear airbags if there's only one person in the car) as well as to prevent the horrible airbag-related injuries we have so often here with domestic vehicles with airbags where someone who's neglecting wearing their seatbelt gets launched forward and has their chest or face up against the steering wheel when the airbag goes off. I'm pretty sure I don't have to tell you how nasty that can be. Also, you can see in a couple shots he pretty obviously wasn't wearing a belt. The belt itself is in position and not cut, while if he'd been wearing it the friction locks would have seized the belt in place and the belt would have been cut to get him out, or at the very least would be hanging loose in the car, not tight in between the rollers.

It's not bad. Accent is a pretty peppy little econobox Hatch too, we've been quite happy with our SE that the Fiance has. Hopefully new Genesis will spark some aftermarket for both cars.

That white car is definitely being towed.
I dont understand how the car's left side is destroyed and yet the car is the pole's left.
And...my triceps wont stop twitching... wtf!
