Yea I don't like the way they look either. Is that an extra intake duct on the ferrari?

The K stands for KERS. But im not sure what the bulge is.

the extra cooling duct and the "bulge" in the body work is probably the add-on electric motor, or batteries. it could also house the capacitors and control modules, i dont know for sure, but those are usually the larger parts associated with hybrids and electric vehicles. it doesnt look like it was part of the original design, something they just added on to test the KERS. Im sure once they have an official KERS car it wont look so odd. they will be able to incorporate the hybrid parts into the chassis like the engine and gearbox has been for years.

for those who dont know. KERS is Kinetic Enery Recovery Systems

the new diveplanes, fences and other bits look interesting on the wing endplates. I wonder what they do.

FIA regulations would never allow for a brake duct to be that big.

And what kind of self respecting aerodynamicist would design one that big anyway?

I believe the opinion of this being related to next years KERS systems is accurate.

^^ ITS FOR THE KERS SYSTEM!!! lol thats the only big change that could necessitate such a huge monstrosity of an air duct.

why did some cars use the new rear aero and some didnt?

I'm looking at it this way.

If you are in the title fight or for a respectable finish: McLaren, Ferrari, Renault, BMW, Toyota, and Toro Rosso.

You fight and set almost all your resources to that years championship. Hence why Mclaren spent $7.5 Million dollars to improve the MP4-23 by just 1 tenth of a second. (Ron said the most they have ever spent to improve the car by so little.

On the other hand you have you tail enders: Force India, Honda, and Williams (Hurts me to say Williams is on this list btw)

For these teams, the season ended long ago and the towel was thrown on 08 so 09 became the focus before Sept. That is why i posted the 2009 Williams car back on Sept 18.

That is not to say the big teams are not working on both cars, but it is saying your resources come to the task at hand and a championship fight is the primary concern.

exactly. Honda has been working on the 09 car since the season began, lol. They have been working on it so long it better be good right out of the box.

rear brake duct, lol, just for the right rear corner?
