haha i traded a mofo 15 and $125 bucks for a solo x 18 ( got it for a steal) =]=]=]=]

now i figured i want to go all out on the box
wantin to get rid of the back seats for the room for the sub

but got a couple of questions.

sense i know kicker sq usually sound horriable so i am going for loudness
would it be better facing toward the front window shield or facing toward the roof

just wantin a couple ideas and so far the only problems i may have is wieght... and air space....

well i've seen solo x 18's facing the front windshield and the port on top of the sub also facing the windshield...

The only way you are going to get enough airspace for that sub is to wall it so it the forward or rear facing is pointless. Also the Solo X really wants to be ported so that will add quite a bit more to the overall size of the box.

Kicker recommends 10 cubes tuned to 35hz with 150" of port. I use a lower tuning and more port though. So a 25" long slot port would need to be at least 6" wide and 20" long for a 35hz tuning. I would use 1 30"x7" port thats 40" long for a 32hz tuning.

When you add the displacement of the port your total exterior size comes to ~15.5cu Add internal bracing you will be looking at ~17cu. Dont forget to either get 1" MDF or double up all of your exterior walls with 3/4" MDF. All thread words really well to hold everything together and tight so I would reccomend that on top of the bracing.

Subs and enclose together is going to be heavy. Expect everything to together to weigh in at around 300lbs.

and start pouring concrete in the car cause that sub is gonna rattle that car to peices

i was plannin on building a wall and i went to southern sound in cleveland,tn and he figured theres 10.7 cubic ft or air but he said we would use only 6 to 7 and we thought of the same thing for the port and the 1'' mdf wood (get dicount from a school teacher lol)

we also figured it would be around 300lb -350lb so it would be like ridin 4 deep all the time o well lol

i just it done cause it would be diff and i know he is really good at what he does he has 4 mojo 12's walled off in a xb

also amp wise what would u figure "true wattage" should be? that will be a big factor to

get ready for some MAJOR electrical upgrades.

Replace all existing wiring with 1/0
at least a single 400 amp alt, I would go with a 300 amp just for the sub amps, then another 200 amp for the car and front stage.
At least 1 battery for the sounds and an upgraded one under the hood.
Run all new and seperate wiring for the 2nd alt.

I am sure there is more, it is going to be a HUGE job just to get your electrical straight. A bit of advise though, get the correct batteries and run a 16-18v system for the sub amps. It will draw MUCH less amperage that way. Oh and if you build it correctly, learn how to replace windshields. You will be breaking the seals on yours on a regular basis. If you plan on competing with it, get yourself a spare head unit so you dont have to be inside the car when you burp it.

thanks.

im getting 0 gauge memphis wire cause i might be able to get a hook up on it

and where can u get a 300-400 watt atl at?
i have been lookin and it seems hard to come by really..

and haha i was told the same thing by the people at southern sound about the windshields lol

and is it againist the rules to sit in the car when playing it or just because it is bad for your ears?

i should gettin back the price of the box today or tomorrow and the setup i will post pics as it goes =]]]

A memphis 4k would do the trick. For alternators, we will uae ohio generator
Or powermaster. Both make great products for spl applications

I paid about 500 for my powermaster, but I got the adjustable voltage one that was a bit more expensive than a standard. I ordered it straight from powermaster and the guy I delt with was great.

Depending on the quality of the box and any hook-ups you should expect to pay anywhere from 700-1000 for a ported box. It is not going to be a simple design to get the required airspace and port to get sound you want.

i called power master they want 620 for a 170 amp alt....(wow)
and ohio gen seemed like they didnt want to talk and they said they would give me a call but never did......

yeah he is suppose to be planning it now and giving me a price than saving the design and when i get the money he would start on it(would be losin my car for a while but it be worth it to me)

should have the money by x mas for the box to be built so i should post pics than while it is being built day by day

must be so expensive because it isnt a common application

look into mechman alts. http://mechman.com/store/index.php They fab their own casings to house bigger guts (like chevy or ford, not just overwinding a stock alt) Also look into Excessive Amperage and Iraggi. I run an EA 180 amp personally on my Camry, and at the time it was about the best deal. If I did it over again I'd def go Mechman though.

2 15x3 ports will only be 90" of port and will result in port noise. They are simly too small. You will have to do what most people do, put the sub behind the driver and the port behind the passenger seat or visa versa. You could also do the port along the top of the box and set the sub a little lower and have them both centered.

Yes you can do a sealed box, but you will losing ALOT of the performance of that sub. It is designed to be used in a ported enclosure.

ok thanks so no small ports and could u do another demension for the port that also equals 30x7 like 21x10? not good with port space and hz so i might as well ask a expert

and not going through southern sound for the box never got a call back and when i asked about it they said they were to busy(3 weeks straight) (sure)... so the teacher at school said he would build it inside my car for a little of nothing plus materials all he needs is the demisions and he can do it so it will save money and time

get back with me as soon as u can jimmi thanks for all the help =]=]=]

Heres a little tip. 125amp alternator out of the Legend 2nd gen will fit. :)

BanginJimmy
12-04-2008, 12:55 PM
21x10" port 38.5" long will give you a tuning of about 32hz

29.25" long will give you a tuning of 35hz

46" long will give you a tuning of 30hz

when you build the box, remember that when you get the length of the port, take your measurements from the CENTER of the port, not the sides of it.

If you have to bend the port, it is also wise to bend it with 45* angles instead of 90*

will it even work with a carburated 2.0 motor to? and dont u mean a 110 amp alt cause thats what they come with????i dont see where u are getting 125 amp???

ok i will do the port 21x10 and i have plenty of room to run the port straight back so i wont have to bend it and would u think the sub would work better inverted or not inverted...

just wantin to get everything rite so i dont have to do it again a second time

BanginJimmy
12-04-2008, 06:20 PM
leave it sitting in there normal. The only advantage to inverting a sub is that the sub will not use internal airspace.

i alwayz find one more question to ask

is there any performance diff from 2004 solo x 18 cone to the 2007 solo x 18 cone?

BanginJimmy
12-05-2008, 02:56 PM
that I have no clue about. Is it a 2004 sub that has been reconed to a 2007?

mushroom_toy
12-05-2008, 04:09 PM
Yeah excuse my previous post its 110 amp. It does fit though both carb and efi cars, plug on the rear is the same however to line it up perfectly you need to place two washers between the bracket and the alternator. Also you need to open up or clamp on a new bigger terminal on the alternator ground wire. The ground bolt on the legend alt is bigger in diameter.

what is the diff from 30-32-35 hz? haha sorry if im annoying the piss out of u jimmy just wantin everything to be rite

also the hifonics bxi2008d 4000 watt class d i have heard alot of good things about hifonics but would it push the solo x ? maybe 2 of them? got to lookin at the memphis 4k well i dont have 1,400 dollars to be honest haha

BanginJimmy
12-08-2008, 03:59 PM
tuning frequency is basicly the lowest you want your subs to play. I am sure redGT or bad apple could answer better, but I always prefer to tune low.

For an amp, you get what you pay for. I will be the first to admit that Hifonics amps are good for the money, but a 2kw amp that costs less than 300 is that cheap for a reason. If you want to sue 2 amps, you will need to find ones that are strappable so you are only sending the sub 1 signal instead of 2. Even though the 2 amps are the same manufacturer and model, doesnt mean they are 100% excatly the same.

I dont know what coils the Solo X is, but if it will give you a 2 ohm load, I have a good, 3kw amp I will sell you for a good price.

what kind of amp is it and how much?? sort of tight on money now cause of my car and the money for the box and how i want it but i can see what i can do..

but if i do want to run 2 amps i just have to find the ones that are linkable? dont think the hifonics are but pA make linkable amps and so does memphis and kicker ..

i have seen people use the kicker 1200.1 amps.. 2 on 1 sub for the solo x 18 and they said it does good but i have doubts... might go with the new 4000 watt amps by Pa not bad for the price and they dont do to bad plus they linkable

ik Pa aint the best in the world but the products aint that bad owned 3 subs and 3 amps by them and the only think i have noticed was the mofo 10's suck (sony's) do better)

amp is a US Amps DE-3000 and I would sell it for 600 and I will include the distro block that I have for it to make wiring easy.

well i will see what i can do about the amp

well i ran into a little problem...its called room haha

the wall were the sub mounts can only be 34''x 25''
and the sub takes up 19'' of that 34'' so that leaves me
with 15'' so if i leave 2 1\2'' on both sides of the sub
than it will be 24'' total for the sub
than if i space the port off the side of the edge of the box
2'' i only have 8''

is there another way i could build the box for more room like the cone facin the roof

give me some ideas haha im lost

BanginJimmy
12-09-2008, 09:28 AM
The wall for the sub should stretch from floor to ceiling and side to side so you should have plenty of room for the sub and port.

i was going to take the back seat out and use that space could i put the port in the trunk and not beside the sub??

BanginJimmy
12-09-2008, 02:14 PM
you will want the sub and port in the cabin. You have plenty of room for the sub and port in that car, you just have to get creative.

so stretch the box from the trunk all the way to the back seat than up to the ceiling

i guess i just got to think more either way i will have it done at the beginning of the year
