Hey guys,
A friend of mine is about to re-do his 240SX and we were talking about paints.
From what I understand about OIL based paints:
PROS:
Looks deeper and better overall than the everyday paints these days.
A simple wax will make it look amazing.
CONS:
Will fade with UV exposure
More prone to damage without clearcoat layer to protect
Also, what are the costs involved with oil based paints?
Thanks

yeah i dont reccommend enamel or oil based paint i used enamel paint for my truck and it was already starting to flake off...but on the contrary it does shine real nice when waxed so if cost is a factor in this whole scheme of things then do that but if u can afford to go for good paint i strongly reccommend base coat clear coat

I would recommend urethane based base + clear. Lasts longer and relatively cheap these days. Priced around $500 for a cheap spray job. Or if you are strapped on cash a single stage urethane will run around $200 if you were to do yourself.
Enamel or Oil that you're calling it can be done for $50, but it takes a lot of sanding to get it smoothed out. If you are talking about the roller method that I've seen. So in what $ you save you're taking more time to work out the imperfections.
The friend with the 240SX would not happen to be named Mike would he?

Nope his name is Paul. He doesnt visit IA much.
We were talking about the different types of paints and this came up. I think he was more interested in a deep shine than saving a few bucks. I guess base/clear is the way to go.
Yea its definitely enamel. I guess I was thinking oil pastel vs watercolors when I made the thread :D
Thanks for the input!
