...but it's not available in the U.S. Ironically enough, though, it is made right here in the U.S. (Ohio). Chrysler ships them to Europe and Australia instead. I find this very odd since they are trying to go out of business. It seems like there would be a high demand for vehicles like this here in the U.S.
Oh and it sells for £18,205 which is ~$24,000

2 things about that.
Jeep = Yes it does have to be 4wd because in alot of countries Jeep MEANS 4wd.
And no it is not good for families as it was voted the worst car in America 2 years in a row by a magazine (cant remember which but i can find it if you want). It really is a disgrace to the brand and in these GM/Chrysler merger talks, the Jeep brand is the only real wanted brand.
Again a Jeep must be 4wd in the same way a Land Cruiser and a Land Rover.

I wouldn't buy a piece of shit Compass if it got 300 mpg. Or a Patriot. They're both garbage, and I'm sure people have realized that and that is why these vehicles are not available.

TDI is available here. Nobody buys it. Americans think three things about diesel: 1.) It's expensive 2.) It's hard to find 3.) It's dirty and noisy.
Europeans on the other hand think Diesel's a great fuel for people who make commutes and don't really care about how their car drives or it's throttle response. That's why you have lots of TDI's outside of America. Anyways, the problem with those models is that they have had exactly zero interest from the american public. Of course they're not exactly popular anywhere else either.

I'm sorry I wasn't clear enough. I was first responding to Tracy's

The last bit was about the actual models she mentioned in the OP. The last bit about the fact that nobody in America would buy that thing, especially for 24,000. In fact, I doubt many people would buy them for 15,000.
Oh, and the EPA and the Europeans have different MPG tests...in this case to some degree, your mileage may vary. :-p

The Patriot and the Compass? Ugh...I'm enthusiastic about diesel power, but a diesel engine in a Wrangler will be the only thing that really gets my attention.

You don't need a V6.

No, the one Tracy posted about is diesel. The gasoline version don't get all that great of mileage when you think about it. And the fact still remains that diesel in america is a bad word and is associated with big noisy trucks. The simple fact is that many new TDI diesels can be nearly as quiet as gas engines and with similar response and performance but with far greater mileage.

I bet the money you save on gas is offset by all the repair bills from that american POS breaking down all the time.

They tried the Liberty, didn't work. Then they had the Patriot, didn't work. They simply could not replace the Cherokee with these new hunks of crap. The new GC's are ok, but they should have just stuck with the original lineup of the Wrangler, Cherokee, and GC. And then, of course, brought back the Comanche. Over the past few years Jeep has just lost it completely. Like replacing the 4.0 with an underpowered v6 that actually gets even shittier gas mileage? WTF JEEP?

the website was not clear about that. I hit model specs and only a petrol engine came up. I do see know that it was the diesel. i should have consider that a gas engine cant do 50 mpg.

You all also know that the UK gallon is larger than the US gallon, right? I believe a UK gallon is actually around 1.2 US gallons.... that kills some of the gas mileage right there...

They are talking about imperial gallons
The domestic Compass is available with either a 2.0 liter or 2.4 liter DOHC four cylinder producing 158 or 170 horsepower, respectively. In Europe (where they get all the good stuff), the Compass can be fitted with a 2.0 liter diesel engine that delivers 229 foot pounds of torque and 34 urban / 52.3 extra urban miles per British gallon. That works out to roughly 28.3 city / 43.5 highway miles per gallon here in the States.

Damn it! Well there go that theory.
I first read about this in Mopar Mag. They made it sound all cool and shiz. I guess they would considering it's all Chrysler :)
