Obama said he would bankrupt any new coal entities if they build more coal power plants.

“Barack Obama explained his plan to the San Francisco Chronicle this year, early this year. And he said that, sure, if the industry wants to build coal fired power plants, then they can go ahead and try, he says, but they can do it only in a way that will bankrupt the coal industry, and he’s comfortable letting that happen. And you gotta listen to the tape."

And people want him as president? Sorry tree huggers, we need coal power as well as nuclear, get over it.

Unbelievable.

funny how the Chronicale say on that interview for like 9 months. There is also a very damaging interview being safeguarded by the LA Times.

yeah they waited but they should have waited till about a week or 2 ago, not 1 or 2 days before the election.

you do realize that coal is most pollutant type of energy we have. John McCain said they same exact thing (that he wants to get rid of coal). Heavily taxing coal will make companies turn to other forms of cleaner energy.

Its like you are blaming him for wanting to get rid razor blades in baby food..... wait he wants to get rid of something??? holy crap, nevermind that its razor blades in baby food... run!!!

I've seen first hand what carelessness in Energy resources can do to the environment (see Exxon Valdez) I believe Obama has said he is for CLEAN coal and would invest in that technology.

The newest coal stacks that have been built here in Floyd County and in Bartow county put out almost 0 emmissions. It is water vapor that come out of the stack and have been told that its cleaner than the water that is in your home. I have several friends who actually took part in assembly.
His statement is pretty cut and dried if you ask me, that quote doesnt say anything about clean burning coal.

The clean coal statements came well after that interview to the Chronical.

97-98% of the output of the new coal stacks is water vapor. Any coal plant can be converted.

you know what the scrubbed shit goes into? one thing is those nice new interstate concrete resurfacing they are doing around the area. That coal scrub makes concrete a shit ton stronger.

Heres his direct quote:

"I voted against the Clear Skies Bill. In fact, I was the deciding vote. Despite the fact that I'm a coal state. And that half my state thought that I had thoroughly betrayed them. Because I think clean air is critical and global warming is critical. But this notion of no coal, I think, is an illusion. Because the fact of the matter is is that right now we are getting a lot of our energy from coal. And China is building a coal-powered plant once a week. So what we have to do then is figure out how can we use coal without emitting greenhouse gases and carbon. And how can we sequester that carbon and capture it. If we can't, then we're gonna still be working on alternatives.

"But...[NOTE: here's where the Western Business Roundtable picked up the text.] let me sort of describe my overall policy. What I've said is that we would put a cap and trade policy in place that is as aggressive if not more aggressive than anyone out there. I was the first call for 100% auction on the cap and trade system. Which means that every unit of carbon or greenhouse gases that was emitted would be charged to the polluter. That will create a market in which whatever technologies are out there that are being presented, whatever power plants are being built, they would have to meet the rigors of that market. And the ratcheted down caps that are imposed every year. So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can. It's just that it will bankrupt them because they're going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that's being emitted. That will also generate billions of dollars that we can invest in solar, wind, biodiesel, and other alternative energy approaches. The only thing that I've said with respect to coal--I haven't been some coal booster. What I have said is that for us to take coal off the table as a ideological matter, as opposed to saying if technology allows us to use coal in a clean way, we should pursue it. That I think is the right approach. The same with respect to nuclear. Right now, we don't know how to store nuclear waste wisely and we don't know how to deal with some of the safety issues that remain. And so it's wildly expensive to pursue nuclear energy. But I tell you what, if we could figure out how to store it safely, then I think most of us would say that might be a pretty good deal. The point is, if we set rigorous standards for the allowable emissions, then we can allow the market to determine and technology and entrepreneurs to pursue, what the best approach is to take, as opposed to us saying at the outset, here are the winners that we're picking and maybe we pick wrong and maybe we pick right."

Looks like he mentions Clean coal right there in the quote. Furthermore those new Coal stacks with Zero emissions will not be charged if I am understanding his statement correctly.

Sounds awesome, taking credit for shit that already exists.
Got a time line as to when his statements were made? Did he make the statement and then later realised that the shit was already in place. I doubt that there is a single coal bruning plant in the US that doesnt already have one of these stacks or is in the process of building one.

what the hell ever. First he says we need it, then he says hes going to bankrupt any new coal facilitation. you know i hardly ever argue about why McCain should be chosen, i usually argue about why Obama shouldn't be elected. This is exactly why. Hes an IDIOT.

Thats the problem, people have nothing good to say about McCain.. while putting the focus on Obama which is probably why he's going to win, he gets way more attention than McCain and he has the Repubs to thank for that.

what that he is a good choice with better policy's, doesn't want to raise gun taxes or bankrupt energy companies? Doesn't want to take from the rich to help out the lesser rich? Not had all the ties that obama has had to insane crazy ass people?

there is plenty good to list especially with his military service background and his history actually doing work in the federal gov't. We've already listed all of that crap though in the past so it doesn't matter. Today is the day when we elect an idiot or McCain.

don't worry, it will happen. that or he'll just setup the initiation of gun surrendering.

It's Sorry that that was only thing you could truely comment on.

Nah its just redundant at this point, we know who we'll be calling President Elect in the morning.. no need for a petty back and forth.
