or her part, Sarah Palin, who has lately taken to calling Obama “Barack the Wealth Spreader,” seems to be something of a suspect character herself. She is, at the very least, a fellow-traveller of what might be called socialism with an Alaskan face. The state that she governs has no income or sales tax. Instead, it imposes huge levies on the oil companies that lease its oil fields. The proceeds finance the government’s activities and enable it to issue a four-figure annual check to every man, woman, and child in the state. One of the reasons Palin has been a popular governor is that she added an extra twelve hundred dollars to this year’s check, bringing the per-person total to $3,269. A few weeks before she was nominated for Vice-President, she told a visiting journalist—Philip Gourevitch, of this magazine—that “we’re set up, unlike other states in the union, where it’s collectively Alaskans own the resources. So we share in the wealth when the development of these resources occurs.” Perhaps there is some meaningful distinction between spreading the wealth and sharing it (“collectively,” no less), but finding it would require the analytic skills of Karl the Marxist. ♦

Got DAMN, the permanent fund is $3200 this year???! I shouldn't have moved away.. you get that much for every person in your household.. so someone like Sarah Palin with 5 kids, herself and her husband, multiply $3200 by 7.

Note to self:

1.) move to Alaska
2.) have kids as often as possible
3.) ????
4.) profit!

Why is it so hard for republicans to understand that Palin is a moron? I don't see the point in trying to pretend she's worth a shit as vp, just to stick to your political guns...

x2 this is especially damning considering Palin's role as the "attack dog" of the campaign.

If you think about it all income tax is redistributive. It takes money from private owners and transfers it to (among other things) state governments in the form of federal funding for projects. Since Alaska recieves more federal funding per citizen than any other state, and most of that money is spent under her watch, it could be said that Palin is as much of a "redistributionator" (using her own words) as anyone.:lmfao:

lease revenue sharing has been in effect since the 70's since the oil pipelines were established.... she had nothing to do with that being established so i find it funny that she is associated with the creation of something that came around when she was in diapers.

In some parts of Alaska a gallon of milk can be like $15 and groceries have to be flown in by bush plane. If the government didnt pay people to live up there. Then only Alaskan Native Americans would be there.

But in all honesty, it is a bit hippocritic.
