'69 BMW 1600(2)

[Revmaynard]

1969 BMW 1600 with a 70's 2002 2.0l swap. Weber carb, rebuilt motor. It hasn't ran in a little while but I think the timing is off. Got the rear deck lid replaced and some black e30 seats for it. Might have a set of bottle caps for it. I'll post some pictures of it it stripped on the outside in a few days. I was going to do some sanding and body work but haven't gotten around to it.

I've seen alot of his cars first hand. Growing up in the UK.

Don't think of it like that. I give Lauda all the respect as he is one of the greatest ever F1 pilots. For one, my joke actually comes from Jeremy Clarkson.

Did some sanding today. Hopefully Sunday I will be able to set the timing and do points on it. After that and it just needs brakes to be road ready. I don't plan on really ''driving'' it until I get somewhere with the body/interior.

Grew up in London so watching F1 races was not a big deal for me. Silverstone, Brandshatch and Donnington was almost like going to Road Atlanta over here.

I was 6 when that race happened. Got to watch it with dad. We were either at home or the pub.

I dont get to watch much F1 anymore something about two small kids and the noggin or spout channel.

Last time I got to watch it, we saw when the guy ran the pit red light. first words out of my sons mouth was dad doesn't he know he was suppose to stop. Red light means stop. He is 4.

By the way as far as the bmw - go with the green. My friends one was candy maroon. Had the turbo injection engine in it. The thing screamed. Her dad had the glass etched with Taylor Made on the back. Pretty bad ass little car for what it was.

yeah I've got really old tamiya models of F1 cars. 1/20 scale and also 1/12 of the of F1 cars. I've got the john player special and the tyrell elf car (6 wheeler) that was a car to watch race. Shear mind numbing to know all 4 wheels on the front steered.

If you look at the pictures before there were white paint rings on the hood. The areas sanded most were surface rust spots. I've sprayed them over with some sealer to prevent any moisture from getting to the bare metal.

Yea, it needs floor pans in the rear. I can push on the carpet and it doesn't feel safe to support weight. So...that's an issue. lolz

^^You should be able to find those floor panels for a reasonable price. also they are not that difficult to install.

Keep sanding the body like you are doing, but go to a hardware store and wire brush for a drill. Not just any wire brush, ask for a cable, cup wire brush. Install the brush on the drill and then proceed to go over all of the places on the body that have rust. This will clean out the rust from the rust pits. When you finish the sanding, before you apply any kind of primer, paint, or rust treatment, go to http://www.southernpolyurethanes.com/homepage.htm and buy two quarts of the part "a" epoxy primer and two quarts of part "b" activator. This is the most important paint product to apply to your freshly prepped sheetmetal. It virtually stops rust from spreading and provides a great foundation for bodyfillers, and surfacing primers. It also looks great as is. It produces a cool, long lasting semi gloss black, white, or grey finish that is resistant to pretty much any chemicals.
