Sorry there was no thought put into the first pole. It was mostly a bunch of cheap turbo cars that we see everyday. The greatest turbo cars were hardly mentioned.

I voted 335i simply because I am an N/A fan and the 335i felt more N/A than any turbo car i've driven in a long time. Like I said, surreal how it had virtually felt like a V8 and not a delayed turbo car and because I simply could not decide between 911 turbo and GNX

Amen to that. When i drove one it felt like the power came on very linearly. The stock ones are so smooth and quiet that you look down and your going 110 without even realizing it.

Sorry but the RDX hasn't won any "best engine of the world" awards or change the revolution of turbocharging. I've personally driven the pants off of one and I LOVED it but it was still laggey and overall felt like a turbo charged car to me, that's why I didn't put it in there.

then its not a turbo car....part of the thrill of having a turbo car is the sudden rush you get when boost comes on. I like my boost the same way I like my movies. Violent.

That being said, an old 70's turbo porsche 911 is one of my favorites. Completely unrefined with poor road manners, that if you didn't treat it with respect, would land you sideways or in the hospital.

Second behind that is the GNX

I really agree with you and love that rush (I drove 930 Turbo while I was working in a Porsche shop with 44k and it was exhilarating when it hit boost) but that "version" of a turbo car is quickly fading away. Cars are being engineered with no lag and no hesitation now and well..it's a much better drive in terms of what's going to communicate with the driver more and flat out be more involving to drive.. I.M.O the 335 was the FIRST street car to exemplify this and sound N/A to boot, hence why it won national engine of the year. The thing is standardizing what car companies have to do to now to go that route.

this thread is too restricted...and will not succeed, you cant ask for opinions, than limit them.....

No the last thread did not succeed. Hence why other was the number one choice. It asked for opinions then yielded almost none of the cars people would choose. I agree it's subjective but almost anyone would argue the cars above are the best turbo cars period. I bet if you pulled a list of the "10 best turbo cars" it would have all of what I listed. These cars all shocked or had some large significance on a large number of car enthusiasts around the world. Other turbo cars did not..as much.

I want to say the Bugatti Veyron, but that's just such an exemplary piece of engineering altogether...it's not just because of the turbocharger itself.

My favorite application of the turbocharged engine would be in the Buick GNX and the GMC Syclone/Typhoon. That just strikes me as a cool idea though.

The thing that's blown me away lately is the Variable Geometry Turbo. I thought it was the most brilliant thing ever when I read about the Porsche 997 Turbo.

I could actually list a reason that I like almost every car on this list. I went ahead with the Bugatti though. :D

Ahhh!!! why! Haha. The variable geometry was a damn good reason to pick the 911 Turbo. Also the GNX, Syclone/Typoon!! Reps anyhow!

^^^. 288 GTO I.M.O Rarer and the "original F40". In a time when a Corvette had what...180hp? The 288 could get to 125 in 15 seconds. Talk about raping the competition.

VNT has been out much, much longer than when porsche started going it. Chrysler was doing VNT turbos in the Turbo III engine with the dodge spirit R/T. 225hp stock, way back in 1992.

And One of the things I hate now is how over-engineered cars have become. While the lack of turbo lag with the engine does give better road manners, in the same sense, it gives a disconnected feel with the car. I like my turbo cars a little laggy, loud and for the boost to come on violently. Na is just boring.

I know they were used in diesel engines, but I didn't know they were used on gasoline powered cars before the Porsche...the Spirit R/T was a pretty cool little car.

I picked the 335i as well simply because it is as fast as the outgoing M3 and with a lil bit of software and tunning it runs mid 12's, speed and fine German engineering always drop the girls panties

The F40 was so ahead of it's time in terms of speed and ability, you have to go with it.

I love the Bugatti Veyron and gotta respect stock 1000hp, but the F40 is just on a different level.

Plus it's more Italian....tee he :)

Well..if you really think about it an F40 was ridiculously ahead of it's time as it had well over 400hp and could go 200mph but cars like the 930 Turbo (964 came out at the end of the F40's production),Lamborghin Countach 5000s, LT1 Vette (also end of it's production and the Acura NSX were not thattt bad at all..
Now in 1982 a Corvette was about the same speed to 60 a modern Honda Odyssey, Porsche didn't have much to play big on the street, Acura didn't exist and the Countach was way slow, yet the original F40 (288 GTO) could get to 6 in low 4's and to 125 in 15 seconds. That's ahead of it's time.

best turbo car of all time; i'd have to say the Toyota Supra would stand out the most in my opinion. Who wouldn't know what a Toyota Supra(2jz) is? Ya know? those bad boys can handle incredible amounts of abuse even on automatic transmissions; it's amazing & they have one of the best sounding motors. But nowadays in the year 2008-2009, it's all about the evos, sti's, and skylines..

My GVR-4 was awesome with the 50 trim but stock...ehh

My FD in sequential mode really kicks you in the pants when the second turbo comes on. Lightweight + twins is pretty cool. You get the low end for drivablility but still hits hard up top like it should.

GNX here. sure f40 and like are awesome, but for down to earth ass kicking from a affordable 6cyl, the gnx delivers. those things are beasts in buick clothing. syclone/typhoon are close second, but just too rare.

dont see GT2...

There have only been 3 generations in the last 15 years and it hasn't pioneered anything with F.I. lately. The Turbo bore the first variable turbochargers, not the GT2. It's a mere child compared to the Turbo in terms of what it's done for Porsche. Plus some say the Turbo WAS the old GT2, just now with AWD as standard.

1g DSM Eclipse, Talon, Laser all the way for me. No they didn't revolutionize anything, but they provided a fun, easily upgradable car that could be fast. As soon as that caught on the 4g63t became a phenomenal performer for the money.

I think the Bugatti is the most sophisticated, best engineered machine built out of the cars but its a tie between the GNX and Supra for me!
