I have a 94 prelude with a jdm h22a motor in it.The vtec works sporaticaly(sp). When the car is cold and the code 21 is cleared the solonoid engages but when it warms up and I stop the car the cel comes on.it only happens when the car stops.I drove from Atl. to Macon without the cel code 21 comeing on but when I stopped at my exit the cel came on.i have tested the solonoid the two ways I know how.I have applied 12v to it and it opperated ans I tested the ohms of the solonoid and got 15 ohms. And from what I read it should be between 14 and 30.I have oil pressure 25 at idle and 75 at 5k.that is the oil pressure at the oil sensor.I havent checked the head pressure but I dont think I have an oil issue. So what does IA think?Reps for the help.Thank you in advance

have you checked if the grounding is good? also you might want to make sure you have plenty of vtec fluid....

Check oil pressure in the Head... Also do so when oil temp is up!!

What should the pressure be?

Should be 7 psi or less at idle and it's supposed to read approximately 55 psi. at 5,000 rpm. Thats at the Head...

Def check the oil. If your oil is fine, could be the solenoid it self. Just get another one from a junk yard.

if its not a clogged solenoid, replace the v-tec pressure switch.

Why do people keep on saying clean the solenoid....:screwy: If you clean it with any part cleaner, your going to damage it. That part is NON- SERVICABLE. WHICH MEANS YOU DONT HAVE TO CLEAN IT. If it goes bad then its bad, you have to replace it. If the screen gets clogged, you have a bigger problem somewhere else thats making it clog.

not true. i am a tech at honda. the vtec solenoids do get clogged due to sludge build up:blah: :blah: :blah: . i have fixed many of cars just by using some type of cleaner and cleaning them out. never had a comeback for it. you can replace if it still doesnt work after a good cleaning but hey its worth a shot
