That's a good choice. Those will run forever. More than likely your battery will need to be replaced if it sat for too long and you may have to clean the carbs if it sat for too long.
Dont worry about the rest. they are good for 50k miles ++++
They get 70mpg too :D
I bought a 2002 in 2005 that sat for 2 years :goodjob:

Good decision on starting small. I rode a 08 Ninja 250 for a few months, easy to learn on, light, and very tossible.

i know what you mean.. i started on a 93 ninja 500....then had a few 600s, a 1000, then a busa....but im buying a 600 soon (keeping the busa) cause i miss having something to throw around.

agreed, and not even specifically for a first bike. I know quite a few people who have been riding for years who still love riding the 250s. I jump on one everytime I get the chance, I miss mine a lot.

Keep your eyes open ALL the time, look far ahead, act like every car is out to kill you, THINK, don't get lazy, and wear good gear.

nice colors. i like that one and the silver one best.
riding on the street is pretty easy b/c you have so much room. it's the slow speed stuff that catches people out, also hills. I've been going out early sat and sun morning around 8-9 when few cars are out and getting comfortable riding on the street again, and hitting up parking lots w/ hills. when your confident in your riding you panic less in tough situations.
i'll be out around 9am by discover mills if you wanna meet up.
