Its my first time ever getting pulled over for a "loud exhaust" on my car, but im wondering what should i do now? The officer just told me i need to get it fixed. End of story.
Only thing i can think to do is basically just get a silencer or something like that and shove it into my exhaust and make it quieter between now and my court date.

Autocross is your excuse? I didn't realize it was such a high stakes racing league ou can't make compromises on. Oh please. You daily drive the car too, live by the rules. Your loud ass car shouldn't be a punishment for me and others on the road. There plenty of mufflers that breathe well and don't sound like ass.

if all you are going to do is lecture him...... leave----------------------->
there are a few things you could do, fight the ticket, a few of my buddies have gotten the same ticket and all of them were dropped. do you have the stock exhaust(the judge should drop the ticket)? if so just put it back on till after your court date. lastly just pay the ticket and take your chances (if i lived in g-nett i would not lolol)

It's not JUST a lecture, he asked for advice. My advice, get a muffler. You don't lose a whole lot of power from a muffler. A restrictive header, or cats yes, the muffler, no.

Lol i was accelerating coming out of my neighborhood from a dead stop, and i was doing maybe 35 and i saw the cop up the road (Jimmy Carter), sitting there with his lights on. I thought maybe he'd pulled someone else over, and so i go past him in a sensible manner. Next thing i know, he is behind me, so im thinking oh s***. So, i dont even try to go down the road anymore, im at a red light. I u-turn at the red light and pull into QT. blue lights. end of story.
I guess it just wasnt my day/evening...:(
Either that, or i just made it really easy for him to stop me..I.E. i kinda surrendered

The law by nature is unconstitutional. There is no way for any officer to equally enforce the law since there is no set testing method. The wording allows any officer to call it illegal if he feels its too loud. That's a personal decision, not a legal enforcement and cops aren't allowed to do that. Go on 240atlanta.com and search for exhaust tickets. you'll find a long post by me explaining it. I'm about to leave work and start drinking so I don't feel like writing it again. Basically any cop giving you a ticket for exhaust being too loud it overstepping his legal boundaries and the ticket, if argued well, is not admissable anywhere in the state.

There's nothing unconstitutional about the exhaust law. For a law to be "Unconstitutional" it has to actually fail to "Pass Muster." Using a personal judgement of the officer has been proven repeatedly to be a perfectly effective way of deciding enforcement levels. Terry stops are a good example (Terry v. Ohio 392 U.S. 1 (1968)) of where a police officer saw NO actual wrongdoing but proceeded to act anyways. The state law as far as noise pollution is concerned is very easy to interpret and is LESS subjective than the Reckless Driving or Too Fast for Conditions laws, both of which are regularly upheld.
The very idea that the law is "Unconstitutional" because of the fact that the officer has to make a judgement call on how to enforce it is ridiculous. Laws are constantly being interpreted by the police as they make rulings on how to enforce them. That's part of their job and duty as the primary means of enforcement for the law and members of the executive branch. Whether they interpret the law the same way as a judge, lawyer or lawmaker does is arguable, and thus the reason why we have a number of tickets being overturned in the system.
OP: As far as it goes, you can put a muffler on the car and go to your court date with a receipt from a muffler shop and probably use that as proof you got it fixed. You can have said muffler shop weld a bolt-up flange and easy-remove hangers for your new muffler. You can drive muffled integra around, not have cops bother you as often, save your hearing and when you get to the AutoX events, unbolt your muffler and go free-flow.

I completely disagree. I've gotten so many tickets for stupid shit just because the officer had a Napoleon complex going and decided to take it out on everyone that fits into a certain mold that he happens to dislike. I get tired of being fucked with nonstop for stupid shit like not having tags when I was driving the car home from purchasing it. He wrote me a ticket that I'm going to have to go to court to deal with. Not the only time shit like that has happened but the most recent.
I believe it is unconstitutional because if you catch an officer that doesn't like you, your car, or is simply having a bad day you're going to get a ticket because it's his judgment call. And sorry, but I don't feel that's the way it should be. How many times have I been pulled over for some bullshit reason and gotten multiple tickets that shouldn't even be against the law (driving past curfew because I didn't switch my license over, window tint, exhaust, driving with no tags even though I had just bought the car, improper lane change for avoiding an accident because he didn't see the other car, etc etc).
It's corrupt and there are a lot of cops out there that shouldn't be.

driving with no tags even though I had just bought the car- did you have the bill of sale with you? By law, any vehicle purchased in the state of Georgia new or used has 30 days to get insured and registered, if you fought this in court and lost, you're either retarded, or bought a stolen car with no real proof
improper lane change for avoiding an accident because he didn't see the other car, etc etc).-this sounds liks something you added to the lsit to make your point better, I doubt you've REALLY gotten all these tickets, especially with the "etc. etc." part, that or you ARE doing something wrong like driving like an ass or being rude to the cop, because I've never once been pulled over.
Actually looking at your other thread, I'd say you have a lot of problems with the police, and now I have to say you MUST be doing something wrong.

did the cop show you a db meter?? my buddy got out of a ticket in winder because he had no documented proof showing that he exceeded the level for noise pollution. you know, just like a cop showing the radar when you get pulled for speeding. that could def get you off of it. some places/officers use the 50 foot rule though. id say fight it.

Switching my license over is fucking retarded, you shouldn't be imposed with a curfew if you're an adult and he was just looking for an excuse to give me another ticket (it was tagged along with the improper lane change ticket). I didn't make any of them up, they all happened. And the point isn't that I can fight it and have it dropped I'm tired of going to fucking court. It's bullshit that I have to spend my afternoon in court because some asshole cop was having a bad day and decided to give me a few tickets. And he told me that when you buy from a private owner you can't drive it without tags PERIOD, which isn't true. When I argued it he wrote me a ticket for driving without insurance, because I hadn't switched it over yet. I was driving it home...
And about the exhaust and window tint they may be my fault but it's stupid as shit to get tickets for stuff like that. Because they're always tagalongs, I got the exhaust and window tint added on to a speeding ticket (60 in 45). Yeah I got both of them dropped but again it's a day in court that I shouldn't have to spend in court.
Not making any of this shit up to prove my point I've had the worst luck with police of anyone I know, and have probably gotten a dozen tickets in the past three years (because when they pull me over they don't just write one, they write like 3)

Unconsitutionality of laws isn't decided by whether or not you like them or agree with them. I know lately this is a hard concept for people to grasp. I'm not a big fan of cops, laws, or government as a general rule. If you knew my particular political preferences you'd understand. However you can DISAGREE with FACTS if you want, it doesn't make you correct. Your OPINION and examples of police officers performing their jobs poorly don't change the basic principles of government in this country.
Oh. And just because you have the charges dropped in court doesn't make you innocent, doesn't make the law invalid, doesn't make the cop wrong, and doesn't make you right. Plenty of people who are DUI get the charges dropped. Some of them hurt people. One T-boned me and my Fiance, she spent six weeks in intense pain and a sling for her left arm. We were lucky, the brand new Pontiac Grand Prix rental car was totalled, I spent the night in the ER on a backboard because the Paramedics absolutely refused to believe I didn't have a crushed pelvis and broken back because of how severe the crash was. He got out of the DUI ticket and last I heard was fighting the ticket he got for running the red light to nail us. We had seven witnesses to it. He probably still got it dropped because the judge just didn't want to deal with the case. Does the system work? Sometimes. Is it good? Not particularly. Is it better than, say, France's system? Yes, by far.
I just got done fighting a no-insurance ticket in Marietta City. It got dropped essentially because I hired a lawyer and the solicitor didn't want to deal with a real case. Didn't even really care if I had insurance or not. I told him I did, my Lawyer agreed, we had what looked like proof, and so he let it go and dropped it entirely. I still think the cop was a dick that was looking for a reason to give me a ticket, but that doesn't change the fact that I MIGHT have stolen the car and been driving without insurance, could have t-boned someone's daughter and killed or injured them and left them holding the bag since I didn't have insurance. Situations can suck, and sometimes we get the bad end of them, but the constitutionality of laws, the rule of law, not the mob rule that so many people want us to have, not the "democracy" little kids keep getting told we live in, that doesn't change. We live by a set of laws governed by the constitution. The humans who make those laws, interpret those laws, and enforce those laws are all fallible, and so is what they made. Facts, on the other hand, and the fact of a law's constitutionality (Whether the constitution is wrong or right on the subject) doesn't.

So you're argument is that being pulled over for invalid reasons are valid because someone in your same situation (no tags, window tint, loud exhaust etc) might have killed someone?
That's fucking retarded. I shouldn't be punished for what other people do. I shouldn't feel like every time I pass a cop I'm going to be pulled over and given a ticket when I'm making a conscious effort to obey the laws of the road and then given a ticket for bullshit. The system is fucked up and there is no two ways about it. Yes there are cops out there that are legit, but there are also enough that aren't to give all of them a bad name.

I'm quite suprised to see this... I interned with the Gwinnett Police for 3 months, and not once did any of the officers I was riding along with seem to care about exhausts. They cared about window tint and shit that concerns their safety, but not exhausts. What was the officers name and where in Gwinnett was this?
EDIT: There was ONE officer who yelled at a driver driving by our traffic stop for his music being way too loud... Wouldn't suprise me if it was him. Cant remember his name off the top of my head.

Do you understand that the window tint law is in effect for officer safety? Look... a traffic stop is the most dangerous part of an officers job. If the officer cannot see through your window when he/she walks up, for all they know you are a criminal and intends to shoot the officer right when they walk up. THAT is why the law is in place. I have illegal window tint yes, and what did i do when I got pulled over? SIMPLE... ROLL YOUR WINDOWS DOWN before the cop gets out of the car. They cant assume that you have your front windows tinted because your back window is.
And the loud exhaust ticket is in effect for noise ordinances. people complain about that shit so they made a law about it. Tough shit, get a catalytic converter, resonator, silencer, something. The laws are laws, and they need to be followed. End of story.

Not getting your license changed over is 100% your fault. It has nothing to do with age, it has to do with the class of your license. You had a class D license, no matter your age you were violating the class d regulations.
Class D
Provisional license for Class C vehicles. May not operate between 12:00 midnight and 6:00 a.m.
Passenger restrictions
* For the initial six-month period immediately following the issuance of a Class D license, only immediate family may be passengers in the vehicle.
* During the second six-month period immediately following issuance of a Class D license, only one non-family member under the age of 21 may be a passenger in the vehicle.
* After the second six-month period, no more than three non-family members under the age of 21 may be passengers in the vehicle.
Put a muffler on your car. The end. Who cares if its an auto-x car, just put a muffler on it. Its not going to kill you.
I have illegal window tint yes, and what did i do when I got pulled over? SIMPLE... ROLL YOUR WINDOWS DOWN before the cop gets out of the car. They cant assume that you have your front windows tinted because your back window is.
Its a lot easier for you since you have a truck. For instance, I have a sedan with DARKKKKKKK back windows (5% i believe). The fronts I think are 10%. But, if an officer sees how dark my back windows are, that gives him probable cause to ask me to roll up my front window so he can check doesnt it? The window tint law sucks, but it is there for a reason.
I have never been hassled for tint, just dont do anything stupid and most cops will not pull you over strictly for tint unless you have like limousine tint. If you are being an idiot, then you will get things like that added on. I am always very polite to cops, yes sir no sir type deal, and I have gotten out of 3 tickets by doing that. Sure, there are the cops with the napoleon complex, but most are just out there to enforce the law and make a paycheck.
Quit bitching about all these problems you have and go fix them. Put a muffler on to draw less attention to yourself. The less attention you draw to yourself, the less likely you are to get pulled over for stupid shit.

One of the tickets I got out of was an improper lane change on 285 and PIB. You know who patrols that area. No one could believe I got out of a ticket from a Doraville cop. I was very polite and honest, told him how I was following a truck back to the warehouse to unload after a near 11 hour shift and I wasnt thinking.
He took my license, ran my plates, and came back to the window and he told me just to be careful and drive safe. By the way, I had 15% tint on those windows, and being winter time they were up. But, I was polite and honest, and he did not even mention anything about the tint.

Here's what you should do for a loud muffler ticket. Go to court and just say you had ordered a new exhaust for the car and it came without the muffler. Say that the officer caught you without a muffler because it was being shipped at the moment.
To solve my loud exhaust without muffler problem, I found a resonator and installed it in the middle of my exhaust, that way it will be kinda quiet, but also have the no muffler look and give you a nice rumble :goodjob:.

im not making fun of you Joel, just think the Db could alittle work before start fukin shyt up you cant fix or pay for. When you start having too much FUN you start breaking stuff.
I've been autocrossing for 5 years, numerous national tour events, pretty much took TOD at most of our regions events and I never once broke anything on the car. I drove the car to the event with trailer in tow, swapped wheel's, rocked out, loaded back up and drove the car home and to work on Monday without ever having a problem. If you take care of your car, don't over drive the car, and don't drive a piece of shit to begin with you won't have problems. Most people think spinning tires and overdriving the car will make them faster, watch the fastest people and you won't hardly hear the tires squeel and they're not sliding much at all, and they're cars aren't breaking either.

Every time I've gotten a window tint ticket (twice) my windows have been rolled down. My tint has never been below 20% and it's never been at night so you can't tell me they can't see inside my car with the sun shining in on me... they can see me fine, they wrote the tickets to be dicks because they always were tagalong tickets. My exhaust has never been that loud, people drive by me all the time with louder exhaust especially with those noisy fart cans that hurt your ears... once again it's a tagalong ticket when they feel like writing you three tickets at once. There is no justification to giving them this much room to decide what is right or wrong because it's being abused bottom line. You can argue with me all you want but until you want to come to my house and look at the dozen tickets I've gotten over the past two years for complete bullshit then you can keep your argument to yourself. (no disrespect meant, but I feel 100% that it's unjust and until you know 100% of the story you can't really defend one way or the other)
Not getting your license changed over is 100% your fault. It has nothing to do with age, it has to do with the class of your license. You had a class D license, no matter your age you were violating the class d regulations.
Quit bitching about all these problems you have and go fix them. Put a muffler on to draw less attention to yourself. The less attention you draw to yourself, the less likely you are to get pulled over for stupid shit.
Fuck you Willie ;)
If you remember, the time I got the ticket for being out past curfew was when they towed my car for not having insurance even though I had bought the car like two days prior and hadn't switched it over yet because no available agents over the weekend at that time (but it was my insurance companies policy to cover my vehicle for 30 days after purchase). They also wrote me a ticket for driving without tags that time as well, even though I once again had 30 days by law to get them switched. Do you see a pattern? Three tickets at one time, none of which I should have gotten in the first place. I'm tired of these motherfuckers.

I'm quite suprised to see this... I interned with the Gwinnett Police for 3 months, and not once did any of the officers I was riding along with seem to care about exhausts. They cared about window tint and shit that concerns their safety, but not exhausts.

lol...but its also an autoX car, so i mean...muffler? not really all that attractive to me right now...
Properly tuned you can run a muffler. Don't see the problem.
I don't know if you got the memo but just because a car is loud doesn't mean it is fast...

That might've been me RIGHT after I bought the car. 2 weeks later I got the muffler, but it had a busted stocker on it that made it sound worse than 30 fart cans revving in a tunnel.
Was it a white Rx-7?
