Mitsubishi gives 400bhp Evo the green light...

It’s the news that all Evo X fans have been waiting for – Mitsubishi will be turning the wick up on the latest incarnation of its four-wheel drive super saloon with a range topping FQ400 version.

Following on from the FQ300 and FQ360, the flagship is due on sale next year and was given the green light by bosses after Mitsubishi successfully campaigned a 400bhp Evo X in the Britcar 24hr race at Silverstone recently.

The car, which was prepared by ADR Motorsport – the same team that already builds the two works Evo Xs competing in the British Rally Championship – run faultlessly throughout the tough event with BTCC James Kaye at the wheel.

There aren’t any firm details about the road-going version’s engine just yet, but to produce around 400bhp, it’s likely to boast a new turbocharger, new exhaust manifold as well as a heavily revised ECU and fuel system.

Performance will be mind-blowing – expect 0-60mph in 3.5 seconds and a top speed in excess of 170mph. It is likely to come with a manual gearbox as standard, uprated suspension, mild visual tweaks and bigger brakes too. The price? Expect to pay at least £45,000.

and it wont make it across the pond. :(. If it did it would probably cost 50-65k and I don't know that I would pay that for an evo.

I'd be interested to see if Subaru responds to this. The evo and sti have always been dead even, not anymore.

They wont.

Mitsu has been selling FQ cars for almost a decade and the only thing Subaru ever did was the FQ320 along with other very low production varients used to celebrate some event.

*Example RB320 - For Richard Burns and the WR1 for Petter Solberg's WRC championship.

The next likely candidate is a tribute to Colin McRae. No real report from Subaru has come out but i have a strong feeling that there is no better reason or person to make a special STi for.

but i believe they mean a new model to compete with the evo X right now. Like a new spec-c, st03 etc

Good man. I was going to do that but good thing now i wont have to.

Some others from top of my head are RB5, 22B, WR1, Type R, I wonder if the Sti limited deserves mention.

You know you and i could go on for days. But the Richard Burns is my favorite so far.

You think the P2 could be included?

Nice info. Did any of those stack up to this evo? No matter what I would take that special RS....holy shit. If it's an upgraded RS, I think it is but my Suby knowledge is limited.

Wait what about the LITCHFIELD STI.
EDIT: Litchfield type25

http://www.type-25.com/images/content/large/intro_2.jpg

Both feature the same 415bhp Cosworth engine and acclaimed chassis but have different emphasis.
Oh and porsche 6 pucks up front as a option
Performance has risen substantially from the original Type-25:

415bhp @ 6,500rpm (400bhp from 5,800rpm − 7,000rpm)
570Nm / 420lbft @ 3,800rpm (300lbft from 3,000rpm)
8,000rpm Redline
304bhp/ton
0−60mph in 3.7sec
0−100mph in 8.7sec
157mph limited top speed (175mph gearing, taller gearing also under review)

i'd say no

Because i'll limit this to Subaru's own cars. I think Prodrive products, if they were to make something that is, are the only exception since they make the factory WRC rally cars.

technically that evo x up there isnt a mitsu built...its built by someone else for mitsu. so idk. I still like suby styling though.

Well whatever happens I still would drive home in a Subaru for the better looks than the EVO and better reliability.

don't mean to start an argument but how many evo's have you seen break down? i think evo's are just as reliable as an sti... yeah i would still pick an sti... but i think its all on the owner who keeps the car and how its maintained

and from your signature... you own all American cars... so why would you be worried about reliability ?

I wonder if you hit 0-60 in 3.5, it would void your warranty??

Mitsubishi reliability is an oxymoron. I doesn't matter what the Evo can add to that because Mitsu makes more than one car and for the most part, the selections available in the usa over the past decade have been worse than satisfactory. An over developed rally car does not count.

And American cars are very reliable. The Corvette is widely consider the most reliable track car from the street.

6th from last....Common.

i like the Xs more than any past EVO,but id still rather have the STI....and if this makes it to us im sure it will cost close to a Z06,and more than a Camaro Z/28.id deff take them over the EVO

and as for american cars, Small Block Chevys are very reliable....

Dont mean to butt into your debate, but what does an IQS Chart have to do with reliability?
