View Full Version : Can someone design a sticker for Leisa on Illustrator or Correll Draw?

Tracy

I am going to make the stickers and Ren is going to weed them and mail them out. I want to have some to sell at the Drive In on the 30th for Brett, too. I had someone who said they would make them, but backed out I guess.

She liked lily's and the dates were 1967-2008

I don't know how to use Illustrator well enough to do this, so I am reaching out to the IA folk! I need it to be in a vector format.

Now get to it and do your part for our Leisa.

Her dates were:

5/28/67-10/7/08

Make sure to spell her name LEISA (If you spell it Lisa she will strike you dead...lol)

:D

Thanks again for making the stickers and to anyone who rocks them on the cars, Its a awesome way for people to know who she is and the legacy she left behind with her friends.

what do you want it to say along the lines of: "rest in peace" , "in memory" , etc

or not at all?

Brett

Corell draw is the format our plotter uses. If you make it in Illustrator I can import it onto Corell draw for the cutting.

This will not work. You have to keep it a contour image for the plotter. We aren't printing stickers, we re CUTTING stickers. Very nice though.

Can you use a vector EPS?

Tracy
10-16-2008, 01:25 PM
So it needs to be something flat like this?

Yes more like that, but is it a vector image or a JPG?

There has to be a lot of thought put into how it is designed since certain portions of it will be "cut out" to create the lines. Thats why it has to be someone who really knows Illustrator.

Tracy
10-16-2008, 01:26 PM
Can you use a vector EPS?

I think so. I'm pretty sure I can convert it. Which program are you using?

If you have the newest version of Adobe reader you can send a PDF and it will work.

Illustrator CS3. I can save it as a PDF and/or EPS from Illustrator.

Nittanys1
10-16-2008, 01:30 PM
yeah there is an 8, i used that at work. when you import a eps file from illustrator is best that the .ai file is saved to an illustrator 8 format or you may have some problems with the file when its imported.

Pink Vinyl is pretty expensive. It will cost me about $2/sq ft to do pink and you have to buy it in a 10 ft roll. I was going to do what I have at the shop, probably white or silver.

Since this is being cut from vinyl, would you want the design to be somewhat simplified for cutting purposes?

The design has to be a single color. Like Black and White(the area of a picture that would normally be weeded out after the plotter cuts).

There are plenty of pics of Leisa around, but none of them will do the sticker any good. There is a specific design that these "In Loving Memory" stickers usually go by and you just can't use pictures with them.

Something to the effect of this......

It's a good idea, but when you are using only a one color vinyl with the ability to only be cut in 2D putting her face in just wouldn't work.

Last thing you want happening is something like this.......

I did some work today on getting a flower but i wasnt liking the lok of it, it looked too flat..I'm still working on it tho!

Tracy
10-16-2008, 05:17 PM
As simple as possible. No need to get crazy.

A flower (as in ONE flower, not the whole mess) in this style is what I am thinking.

Did you use live trace?

I think something curved and the font pretty but on the thicker side so it's easier to weed. No really fancy shi.t.

Not this exactly, but you get the point.

"too dainty to weed"?

the words, or heart? or both? thickening the words is going to be easy but the heart will be a little harder. let me know if there is any particular FONT u like. I have a few that are thicker and will post them up in a few.

YOu people have never weeded stickers before....
99% of these will take 15 minutes each to weed and prep. Sorry to be a buzz-kill, but it just ain't gonna happen.

The LARGE "L" will work just fine. Try and pick a font that is not serifed (feet on the top/bottom) like Times New Roman. Bold is better.

Tracy: Im surprized your plotter will not take EPS files...thats what mine takes.
If we need to split up some of the cutting, I can help with that too...

How about this as an idea? Use one of the new ones uproot made like the ones I will attach and instead of flowers since that will be to hard for the plotter and to time consuming to weed apart, Do uproots but then use the Halo from this one also, so kinda mixing both, Simple design with just the words with a halo above it?

i'm a designer at a graphics shop, and honestly this one would be the easiest to weed out of all of them IMO, just because of how chunky the letters/flower are. Those other little pieces on the other designs are gonna come right up off the backing paper.

I have weeded stickers before. Have you ever seen our cars!!!??? I have weeded EVERY sticker on EVERY car we ever had! The Evo was the worst. It had like 6 layers of stickers on it. It took Dan and I weeks to weed those stickers. I'm so glad someone understands :D

So yea, the thicker and more simple the design, the easier to weed.

My plotter does take EPS, it's old and sometimes it just freaks out for some reason. I think it's more Correll Draw that freaks out. We have to import the file into Corell draw to do the layout. It's just nice to have the original file saved in case something happens and we need to try another format. If I have the AI file, I can convert it to whatever I want. I have AI on my laptop. So no worries. I'll just take the AI file.

I'll be busy for a few days. Homework is killing me now that I spent all my free time this week whoring it up on IA. After a few month hiatus, I got carried away this week. So y'all decide on designs and e-mail it to me [email protected]
