I've heard of it before, but never from the actual person who got it stolen. They have platinum in them so they are worth some $$$ because the price of platinum has increased, i think.

A couple of our work center vans have been hit for their cats, its a lot more common than you'd think.

yeah, the AT&T NOC center got hit by them

I found a couple of black people with a sawzall taking them out in a walmart parking lot. Under the car next to mine.

Didn't tickle my fancy one bit.

Nor what I did tickle their fancy. But it did tickle Marietta PD's fancy.

It is extremely common. I have a friend who works in core supplies (cats, Alternators, radiators etc). Its good money but he knows a lot of that stuff is stolen. He tries to buy only from shops.

Yeah they go for big $$$$ right now! I sold one to Peacocks down here in Macon, $90 for one off a '89 Prelude. Then I took three more the following week and made another $150. They weren't as good as the Prelude one though. Peacocks said the most they will pay for one is $120 and this was about 2 weeks ago.

Yup yup.

We have junk cars here at the shop and people come by paying us 50-100 bucks per cat.

There was a benz repair shop and a group of thieves took like 20-30 cats.

Old news been going on forever. It only takes min-3 max to take that thing off. Since the economy is going down i can see how thieves are more active now.

we got this email the other day :

Norcross Theft of Catalytic Converters

In recent days there have been several thefts of catalytic converters from underneath automobiles in parking lots. On Tuesday, two vehicles had their converters sawed off at Engineering Drive. On Wednesday, two more vehicles had their converters sawed off in two office parks off of Jay Bird Alley. Perpetrators are using a battery powered sawzall to cut the converters out. Please be diligent at all buildings. If you something suspicious, please make Gwinnett County Police Department your first call and then call the TPA Management office. Thank you.

some places pay as much as $80 a cat.

So if you steal 100, which isnt that hard to do, thats $8000 not bad for a few hours work.

THere have been multiple reports of the dealerships and apartment complexs gitting hit

^^Good.

My converter is gutted. It only "looks" like I have a converter. It takes 5 minutes to unbolt my converter. It takes way too long to cut my converter out. I made sure of that :ninja:

yeah man.. alot of the scrap yard in GA pay good for them.. I used to scrap and could make anywhere from 300 to 2k a day between 3 people and a trucc dumpster diving.. a place called Newell recycling was saying they used to get like 4k cats in a day and shell out close to 30k a week in buying just cats alone

This is common at office parks and places with large parking decks. The price of cats have gone down in the last few weeks though.

if you have an account with a recycling company then yeah.. when they get them they will either write you a checc or credit your account with them until a certain "cash out" date
