Anyone here have experience with these subs or have you heard them? I've heard good things about the Type-R but I haven't heard anything good or bad about the P3. Also which is a better deal, 2 12" P3's in a "very nice competition box" (haven't seen it yet pics have been requested) for $400, or 2 12" Type-R's in a sealed box for $250? Thanks.

id go with the 2 type R's sealed for $250 then use the left over money and either build or get a custom enclosure built 4 them and you cant lose. ive built boxes for the type R's and P3's and both are good but the type R's IMO have more potiental.

Type-R's. P3's get nice and loud but the sound quality isn't there.

I have some Alpine Type E's in a sealed box. They sound pretty damn good. Looking to get rid of them for something smaller if your interested...

man i love both subs and have had both, and whoever said sound quality isn't where p3's are at. wrong they have great responsiveness and hit hard. if your trying to hit at a higher decibal then id go with the type r's. if you want better sq get p3s

Both are good subs. I think the P3s (all things being equal) will play a bit louder though. Might not be enough to sway my vote one way or the other....

Box design and construction... THAT is were one sub will shine over the other. Put either in a crappy, poorly built box, and it will sound like poo. Get a kick-butt box built, and you will be happy with either.

I've heard several p3 setups and they simply do not sound as clean as my Type-R's do. Then again, I run two 10's in a sealed box and I heard multiple 12 setups set for max spl with the p3's. I also listen to mostly metal, and the R's definitely hit faster. They keep up with the fastest double bass, and when we listened to my music with p3 subs they couldn't keep up sometimes and the sound got real muddy.

Yeah that's another thing that might influence my decision. I don't listen to only rap, I listen to a lot of rock too so i want a sub that also has fast and accurate bass.

Ok we sell both P3's and Type-R's here at Best Buy. My honest opinion from dealing with them on a daily basis and installing them is the P3 has a little bit more bump to it, considering they are put in the same box.

Both subs can be set up for spl and both can be sound quality. It is all in how you build your system on how it will sound.

I heard of a guy who did a 150 db reading in a Honda CRX with one type-r 10 on Stevemeadedesigns.com boards. It was real. I have not heard of anyone doing that with a P3 10. Not that it can't be done.

Also, I have had multiple Type-R's come back under warranty for them to get replaced because people try to wang on them and destroy the subs without breaking them in properly. P3's come from the factory broke in. So you can put em in and bump worry free.

Aight, well the P3's are a lil out of my price range for now (this will be my first system). So I might get the 2 Type R's or one L7 w/ ported box from a fellow IA member if it's still available. Which one would be better? And if I do get the Type R's, should I get a 2 channel amp or a 1 channel amp? And they're 4Ohm but could I make them run at 2Ohm? Sorry for all the questions, new at this shit:cry:

assuming they are single voice coil, if you wired them in parellel it would be a 2ohm load.

if i remember correctly from my days of working at best buy... both the type r and p3 are dual voice coil... i used to have a p3 myself and sold it to a friend who has never used it... go figure

Yeah I forgot to mention they are DVC...

You can wire up both subs to show two ohms if you wire the subs in series then parallel down. Will show 2 ohms. And yes they are dual 4 ohm voice coils.

Not quite sure what that means =\. I'm a noob remember ;). Do you have a diagram or something?

those are diagrams for using a mono amp. if you want a 2ohm load, get dual 2ohm voice coils.

Aight, so I guess just pass on the Type R's then? Cause they're 4Ohm DVC...

patrick4588

what amp are you using? (you know my subs are single 4ohm vc so its easy to run 2ohm load)

iDrum182

Don't have an amp(first system remember). But from what I can tell it takes a better (more expensive) amp to get higher RMS at 4Ohms, and I'm not tryna break the bank on my first system but still get something good.

patrick4588
10-16-2008, 05:21 PM
what do you consider breaking the bank? i dont think 500 dollars for a good system is that much?

iDrum182
10-16-2008, 05:24 PM
Neither do I. No more than like 500-600. Like I said I would def buy your system if I could, but I'll see what I can do cause gas prices have gone down a lot up here.

patrick4588

meet me in mcdonough, its an hour for both of us. its a 1300 dollars system for 500 bucks. i think its worth the 10-20 dollars in gas it will cost....

I mean I know it would be worth the drive I just gotta talk my rents into it... =\. But I'll let you know. How much more for the all the wires?
