Nissan has instructed its Japanese dealers to temporarily halt taking orders for the Nissan GT-R, declining to offer an explanation or state when order-taking can resume. So far, the order halt only applies to home-market dealers, leading to speculation that there's an issue with a Japan-only component or subsystem. More below.
The report, from the folks over at GTRblog, states that unverified rumors claim the recent materials price-hike may be behind the stoppage — but that it may be due to assembly line maintenance or retooling too. In other words, no one except Nissan knows, and they're not talking. Perhaps it's due to Porsche finding a GT-R that was 25 seconds off Nissan's claimed Nurburgring lap time or owners finding their transmissions weren't covered in event of launch control use? Probably not. [GTRblog.com; Photo: GTR-world.net]

Rumor Busted: Corvette ZR1 Production NOT Canceled [2009 Corvette ZR1]
from Jalopnik by Ray Wert
UPDATE: Rumor busted! Chevy PR tells us ZR1 production has NOT been canceled. DigitalCorvettes was, as we'd claimed most likely the case, wrong on this story.
DigitalCorvettes is reporting a rumor that production on the Corvette ZR1, Chevy's new super car we just drove a month or so ago, has been halted at the Bowling Green Corvette plant. We knew the Corvette plant was on shutdown this week, but we fully expected the plant to resume production next week. Digital Corvettes is now reporting that's now not the case. We've got no evidence to substantiate this rumor other than what the Corvette-lovers over at DigitalCorvettes are reporting. To be fair, we can't believe this is true, and we've put in a call to Chevy PR to confirm or deny the rumor. We expect to hear back from them by the morning at the latest. Full rumor report below the jump:
FACTS
1. ZR1 production has been halted at Bowling Green despite orders to fill.
2. There is nothing wrong with the ZR1 itself. No production line issues that warrant it being stopped.
3. There is no official word from GM yet. Key word, 'official'. But, there is 'word' and we are hearing it.
INFO COMING IN
1. The ZR1 model itself may be on the chopping block, or has already been cancelled.
2. GM is losing their butts on each one.
3. This is a management decision and for financial reasons only.
4. Major changes coming for Corvette production.
and the world WAITS! as the GTR holts production...lol

On the corvette story.....
Chevy ordered Bowling Green to stop making ALL Vettes on the week of Oct 6. This is due to lack of sales but it was a temporary thing. and they have done this before.
The Zr1 story...
Autoblog article Posted Oct 7th 2008 10:37PM by Alex Nunez
The rumormill is a funny thing, and sometimes it can run amok. This appears to be one of those times. The DigitalCorvettes.com forum posted a note earlier this evening saying that Corvette ZR1 production has been halted (Bowling Green is shut down this week, so no Vettes are being built at the moment) and suggesting that the ZR1 may be cancelled. A post on dealer Rick "Corvette" Conti's blog, linked in the referenced DigitalCorvettes thread, added to the intrigue.
Autoblog has contacted GM's Terry Rhadigan, who handles global communications for the Chevrolet brand. We presented the DigitalCorvettes link and asked for an official response. His was very clear:
"Not true."

You guys are GREAT at putting things in your own perspective arent you?
The ZR1 was also stopped and there are no transmission problems.
STOP talking sh1t about a car you've never even seen.

The zr1 also hasn't had any reports of premature tranny failure due to use of a standard option. Granted you have to really beat on a GT-R to make that happen, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if Nissan was taking time to look into it, which would be a good move on their part. Nissan obviously isn't having a problem selling these things so in all likelihood something is wrong.

Just read this early today:
http://www.motorauthority.com/nissan-maintains-gt-r-nurburgring-lap-time-was-legitimate.html
So, the GTR line shut down just the same as the Vette line shut down. And remember: Nissan only make 1 model of GTR. GM is stopping the Z6, Z06 and the ZR1.
The warranty thing
1. If Nissan makes a supercar that's weak, I am disapointted too.
2. Drive a F430 in race mode everyday and blew something, see if Ferrari will do the job for free (I wish they would).

Well, the 1. is all about the disappointment from the trans problem that the GTR has. The 2. is what usually happen in real life.
GTR is a supercar (at least according to Nissan. If you do not think it is one, that is your problem), and daily a supercar? And blew it up?

Nissan has a simple solution in my eyes and driving enthusiast around the world agree on it. The GTR is a street car. Therefore it does not always have to be the fastest thing on the road and driving pleasure should be right up there with comfort. I see an easy solution to half of the problem and that is offer the car as a true 6 speed manual H box arrangement. I will be much happier owning and driving it as will many other people and the manual 6 is much less expensive to make and maintain for both Nissan and me. Fixing the issue with the double clutch paddle box is something Nissan can do what they have to with.
I do see the GTR as a supercar as it can do supercar like tasks well. But i will never own a street car that is sporty in nature which a GTR is supposed to be without a true manual.
On 2.
I have seen maintence requirements for exotics and they are scary. Most of those $150,000+ cars don't see 3,000 miles a year and with good reason. Rebuilds for the entire engine are usually scheduled every 10,000 -15,000 miles. Owning a car like that though is a different experience all together and people that are financially prepared to handle such car payments are also ready to dish out the incredible money for maintenance. Companies like Ferrari study their client el and design cars accordingly. If you know the guy buying the car will drive it twice a month, it doesn't really make an issue putting a component that will be stressed much more since the car will be stressed short term and a full build awaits anyways.

I wish the GTR has the manual box option too, but it is more like I want to drive a manual car more than the cost/maintain/problems with the auto.
GTR is designed to go fast on the track, period. Fun factor? I do not think there is any left, unless you like the monitor and switches in the car more than driving the GTR yourself.
I think the supercars that you can really have fun with (on top of my head in the moment):
F40
Mclaren F1
XJ220
Zonda
Atom
Pretty much super fast cars that you know you cannot really handle 24/7. You know you will spin when you give too much gas out of a corner. Even GTR 32,33,34 will not make the list as all the 4 wheel things that Nissan has done to them. Hell, my 240 is way higher on my list than GTRs.
