I have had it for over 5 years and have fully restored it myself there are still many things I want to do but this is what I got so far. It has a 289 4 barrel that is bored .30 over, with forged aluminum Probe Industries pistons, crane forged pieces, crane rockers, crane cam, long tube headers, polished EdelBrock performer intake manafold and carb. There is more I am sure and the trans is built with a shift kit and a Saturday Night Special stall converter.

Ohh and BTW if you are wondering why I joined this site it is because I have met with some really cool people from here and I have alot of respect for many of the cars on here, to be honest we are all car people and we should respect eachother and eachothers cars.

Thanks Martin

Except the ricers that rev their engines at car meets and dump the clutch at 7,000rpm :gay:

Nice. i've always wanted an older model Cougar. Would love to run across and Eliminator, but thats not gonna happen.

Looks great man GJ!

Just curious though, why didnt you got for the 302 or 351?

Thanks guys, well the motor and trans are original just rebuilt so it makes the car more valuable and it has more meaning behind it that way. If it were not the original motor I would have built a 347 Stroker Motor but its cool it is still pretty quick and fun to cruise.

Impressive. After the first two pics I wasn't expecting anything nearly as good looking as what you did. Keep up the good work!!!!!

Nice, I always have love for any muscle car someone has restored themselves. Even if it's not my cup of tea. I've been trying to finish restoring my '70 Cuda for about three years now. :goodjob:

Sweet well thanks guys, hopefully I will be getting maybe some new rims so I am fit my new brakes. I want to put the Tourque Trust M wheel on it the one that the spokes are black with the chrome lip, and do the Bear big brake upgrade on it, and I just need to put on the new springs and shocks that will lower the car around a inch so it should look pretty nice. Yeah the car does sound pretty good the long tube headers with the 40 series flowmasters and the low idle sounds pretty nice, I am thinking I may change to Borla for a deeper but not so loud tone.

Are you replacing the spindles when you do the brake upgrade or does the brake upgrade use your stock spindles? I'd love to have a complete set of 5 lug spindles and brakes to convert my '62 Falcon over to 5 lug if you're interested in selling them. :D

Cougar looks awesome. Reps :goodjob:

I wish there was a decent classic car forum for ATL but I haven't been able to find one. All the domestic forums are only about late model cars and the street racing between them.

Thanks well yeah the kit comes with new spindles and what not, the only way you can really do rotors is in a kit or taken from another car where you will have to take spindles and what not anyways.

Let me know if you are going to be getting rid of them. I'm fine with drum brakes I just want 5 lug so I can finally get decent wheels.

Have you done any suspension mods? When I do my suspension I am thinking of re-locating my front upper control arms for the Shelby spec geometry (and because its a 2" drop in ride height for the front end). Gotta get all the steering parts for V8 spec suspension first though.

Yeah I seen this at the Varsity last thursday! Not really into Cougar's but I can respect it, seeing where it came from and all. Color is beautiful though... Oh and BTW, How'd you fix the rust.... and be honest! Did you do it the right way or did you cheat..lol

67MercCougar
10-08-2008, 09:01 PM
Well I did the prep before the shop and then the shop came behind me and fix to perfection. If you really had looked at the paint when you saw it you should not have had to asked the question. Not to be mean I am just saying the guys that painted the car are friends of my uncle and did a amazing job. They had the car for 9 months cutting rust, molding new sheet metal it is the real deal, no bondo crap, and the stripe is painted on not a decal and not painted over a base coat fully painted seperate from the rest of the car making a smooth seamless paint job. My hat is off to the guys that did it amazing.
