Ive got an older (about 4 years old) emachines desktop, its a cheapie. Its was about $350 new with the monitor, printer and everything. I recently reinstalled windows XP on it to clean it up so I can take it to work and use it for alldata access mostly. Now I just relized I dont have any CDs for this thing for any of the drivers.

Its running 4 bit graphics.... which isnt good for ****. Anyone know what I need to do to get this back up with all the drivers?

I understand that. I guess I wasnt clear, I have no clue what model this thing is and there is no stickers on it to tell you either. Also how do I find out what vid, sound card etc are in mine to download the correct drivers?

if it is a brand like HP look on back it will have sticker w/ serial/model

if it is custom... turn it off, unplug it, open case.... whatever devices aren't working... look for largest chip or printing on boards: ie (intel, asus, 3com,etc)... you need to pull make then model... the model will be printed on boards look for largest chip or board...

see example: below is an abit_fatality_f-i90hd

Go to the control panel and try looking at the Device Manager, you should be able to get the names of them from there.

get the names of what? if devices aren't registered you aren't going to be able to pull proper driver by doing that. it is probably using generic device drivers for everything.

n00bs

download a program called everest UEE off of the torrents network, or if enough people need it i'll just host it on my server and post the link

fire it up and it tells you EVERYTHING without having to manually tear the system apart to find out
