i have a gsr that i built last week i put ctr pistons with stock rods and crank i put stainless steel flat valves dual valve springs and titanium retainers, i also added type r cams i set everything up went and got it uned and vtec is not working on the dyno i hit 133 whp at 5 grand and then it hit vtec and starting dropping??? vtec is not working or it is lagging the motor one!! i do not have any clue on what could be screwing with me right now if you know i am taking all advice!!!!!!
PLEASE HELP ME!!!

1.You'll probably have to find out if some of your valves are sticking!!!
2. Make sure oil pressure is at specs and oil level is good ( VTEC wont work if its not)
3. Do a compression and leak down test
4. take your spark plugs out and see if your piston is wet. ( it may be number one if so)
I kno some of this cuz it happened to my cousins car. After 5500 rpm the car failed to make power. On the dyno the power curve kept increasing until 5500rpm then it fell off. Im not a shop or anything just a few suggestions.
Hope this helps

did the rpm continue to climb when vtec hit or did it die down??
Gorilla Eg!

i got it all teasted and settled the oil presure is 60 psi at the idiot light and the bottom of the head on transmission side under the distributor but on the front of the block next to vtec it registers zero!!!! but when nothing in hole it squirts at a steady rate??? cylinder one is the only one that was wet!! the spark plug had oil on the threads only but not on the sparking part?? i have takin the vtec solenoid off and the plug in the front i took the cams out and the two top jets and i sprayed with brake cleaner and blew out with the compressor put everything back together and got the timing on cranked it and the pressure still reads at 0 on the part next to the vtec solenoid??? when i was on the dyno when it hit vtec i lost power it registered 133 whp at 5 grand and then started dropping???? do i need to have my head rebuilt again or what do i do????? i need HELP ASAP if got good suggestions give me a call at 678-602-6452 thanx

1. Is vtec wired correctly and does the solenoid click?
2. What do your A/F Ratios look like throughout the powerband? Does it lean out and/or detonate after 5k?
3. What type of gas are you running?
4. Is your mechanical timing on point?
5. What do you have your ignition timing set at?
6. Please, dear god don't tell me you are running stock GSR heat range spark plugs?
7. Who the fucck "tuned" your car?

a guy named remmy tuned in oxford air feul is good and its all running right just vtec aint got enough oil pressure somewhere in the front of the head it is blocked or some bull**** i almost got the head back off 3rd times a charm!!! and i am taking it back to my machinest!!

maybe u need fuel injectors ur injectors prolly maxed out.you never know you might have some single cam injectors..just a suggestion because more air(vtec) more fuel
Formally...

The injectors for single cams are the same as the dual cams (except the Y7) so that is not the problem. At first I was thinking it was mechanical timing, but you said you have checked that multiple times. Are you checking the oil pressure at the front of the head while in vtec or just at idle. You can rev the motor and hold it at about 4k and manually activate the solinoid (jumper wire to battery). See what the pressure is with the solinoid open. Also, you need to try a different set of cams. This is a easy test if you have some stock GSR's. Finally, you may have to pull all the rockers and make sure all the pins are working right. Any loss of oil pressure down the rocker shafts and vtec will not work. Good luck and let us know. Later.

Sounds like a rocker arm issue, happened to me....Somehow the machine shop left one of the pins out of the rocker arms and i had no vtec with hardly any oil pressure up top. Try getting your rocker arms air tested.

Your ecu goes into "O sh!t" mode from all the power vtech adds. When it sees this it cuts your fuel and safely returns to normal. :)
Check the oil pump, plasti gauge the cam bearings, main bearings and rod bearings and make sure you have the right tolerances. Double check timing belt also, i know someone who swore he did it right and it was 180 out..

ok
well the oil pressure is good on the block and the low end of the head?? maybe it is the rocker arm i will call my machinest and let him know! but it just the pressure around the vtec.

my car used to do this..u might need a new vtec solenoid

ok well here is the deal now i took off the head yesterday and dropped it at my machinest he checked everything and it is flowing just right?? he said an oring was eaten up bad but thats all he saw. so i dont know what the deal is i put it back on and set the timing and i just cranked it and it is still not registering any oil pressure on the front top of the head next to vtec everywhere else is still registering at 60 which is still to high?? the head has been checked by two people so i know it is fine is it possible it could be my obd2a to obd1 conversion harness i was having trouble with it before just to get it started?? let me know thanks guys

60 is not too high for oil pressure... when its cold is should be registering higher anywhere you put it. hell my h23 is higher than that....but since you just said that you have an obd conversion. did you buy a conversion harness or just do it yourself or what.

ok here is what i found out i cut on my car and the engine light is off i have a oil pressure gauge connected in the front of the head next to vtec i drive it when its warm and when the vtec hits it hits for 500 rpm the oil pressure goes up to 30 and straight back down and wont hit vtec again??? i put my obd2a computer in and drove it the whole thing lagged power a lot because of the build of course but you hear the vtec hit but it doesnt pull the oild pressure runs up and stays up everything works correctly what you think i think it is a tuning issue so i took it to my tuner and he took the chip out and redid the settings and put it back in it idles rough as hell now he cant fix the redline he set it to 7500 and the launch control at 5000 but it redlines or launch controls at 4 wtf did he do i do or what i am down to ecu chip or tuner??????

try borrowing an ecu that is known to operating correctly (as in, currently running someone elses car). i'm sure someone would be willing to meet up with you long enough for you to plug their ecu up and see if it properly controls vtec. if your car runs correctly then you know its either a bad ecu or a jacked up tune. if it doesn't then you should be looking at mechanical problems.

Did it have anything to do with the piston slapping the spark plug?

naw the valves i guess one of them wasnt built good it broke off and fell in the cylinder and bust the piston and tore up my head so if anyones hgot a gsr head for sale let me know pm me please so now i am going with some jdm pr30 pistons block is still good just need to be honed!!
