I have an 02' RSX TYPE-S
Recently while driving i noticd my car was having a loss of power so i thought, ok it should go away. so later that day while driving my car just lost all power backfired three times then stalled out while moving. so i pulled over started her up and the check engine light was on, so i went and ran the diagnostic thing through the ECU and it said the map sensor was bad.so on the way to order the sensor she would stall out if i let it idle and would not go over 3k RPMS. it was like it was redlining at 3k.
So i went and ordered the map sensor, put it in and worked for five minutes then the loss of power started again. so i ran another diagnostic on it and it threw another code that it could be an O2 sensor.
i also just notced its spitting out some nasty blackish smoke...maybe from low octane fuel?
ANY IDEAS OF WHAT CAN BE GOING ON?

get a professional to do the diagnosis. It prob would have saved you money.

good idea, thanks, i might be trading it for an 03 hatch though.
where would you recommend me take it?

Any mechanic should have a professional tool. At my shop we have a $8k Snap-On machine.

more than likey when your map sensor went bad it put the ecu into limp mode and it usually runs a little rich in limp mode so it may have fouled out your o2 sensor

are you by any chance running safc 2? a friend of mine had a problem identical to yours and he's running safc 2.

whats safc 2?
It is a fuel controling device used to tune. It is a "piggy-back" unit which retains and works with your stock ecu so that you don't have to use a stand alone like a microtech, haltec, wolf, kpro, etc. More than likely you dont have it, try removing the ecu fuse and leave it out for about 15 minutes so the ecu can clear itself out, put it back in and start up your car.

yeah DONT. trade for an 03 hatch. you're better off keeping it in that case. and change your O2 sensor.

i meant a 93 hatch with a b16 swap and clean as hell with additional goodies.
but the code is like p1129 i think.not exactly sure. but one said map then second time around it threw the map and 02 sensor. and i just noticed its spitting out black smoke...dont know if thats from low octane fuel or maybe the 02 sensor?

black smoke is due to your car being in limp mode and running very rich... your map sensor is causing your car to go into this mode and fouled out you o2 sensor.... replace the map and see if o2 goes away if not... get your o2 replaced too....

yea i bought a new one and it didnt work, so i took it back and got another new one and it didnt work, so i guess ill try the 02 sensor. arent their more than one?and can i do it myself?
also, what the hell is limp mode....

yes there are two o2 sensors.. and yes you can do this yourself, jack up your car they're attached to your exhaust, on the catalytic converter if I remember correctly. Your CEL code should specify which o2 needs to be replaced. All you need is a 7/8 in wrench to remove it.
Limp Mode is a default set of values stored in the ECU non volatile memory. If the ECU senses a sensor value missing or out of programmed range, the CEL will illuminate and the ECU will shift to these values to allow the engine to run at reduced power to "limp" to a service facility without further damage to the engine.
Depending on the engineered values and type of engine, the limp mode can enrichen the mixture, change the timing curve, limit boost, etc. The ECU should remain in limp mode with values locked until all signals are again received within the programmed ranges and the CEL will extinguish.
you should also check the connections to these sensors... have you tried resetting the ecu from its codes? (taking out the ecu fuse and leaving it out for about 15-20 minutes)

ok and my "cel" code is the code it through when i plugged up the ecu?
and their are two on the cat?
i will also try un plugging the ecu. that would not mess anything up....right?

CEL stands for Check Engine Light... which a CEL code is the code pulled off your ECU which yields the PXXXX code. I know there are two for a fact but I am unsure if they are both on the cat, once you get under the car you'll be able to find both... yes it is safe to remove the ECU fuse and place it back in.
