i'm looking still online but i figured i would ask while i look, i drove my friends ef with a b16 today and it seems like it hits vtec around 4600 with the j1 trans in it. So i'm wondering is it going to be the same with my y1??? because i couldnt do over 65 on the interstate with out whailing away at the vtec. is it okay to drive with vtec engaged constantly like that or do i just have to go 65 everywhere. anyone ?

your trans has nothing to do when VTEC engages

it will hurt your gas mileage though if you are in it all the time kind of like a turbo

I'm at 4700-5k at 80mph,and stock VTEC engages at 5k but I bumped it up to 5500

so is it bad for the car to be riding for an extended period of time in vtec?

bad for the engine, no. It's just an oil pressure activated pin and larger camshaft lobes.

A chipped OBD-1 ECU is the way to go.

I have a phearable chipped p28 and converted to obd-1

you tell them whatever you want and mods you have and they send you an ecu

A basemap is no substitute for tuning.

true but I'm not tuning my low compression b16

When I told phearable my mods they were like "huh?"

I'm not running any O2 sensors so I guess you don't necessarily have to run it.

Kevin - If you have a chipped ECU, you can disable closed loop and you won't need an O2 sensor at all, except for a visual emissions inspection. If you're using an unmodified OBD-1 ECU, you'll need a 4-wire O2 sensor.
