I knew this was coming, if not this atleast a fine to one or more players, They took some cheap dirty shots at Ryan Sunday

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie cornerback Elbert Mack was suspended one game without pay by the NFL on Tuesday for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan.

The league said the flagrant violation of player safety rules was the second in three games for the undrafted free agent, who was fined $5,000 for an unnecessary roughness foul against Houston quarterback Alex Brink during the Bucs' preseason game finale on Aug. 28.

The hit against Ryan occurred Sunday when the NFL said Mack unnecessarily launched himself into the rookie quarterback and made helmet-to-helmet contact during an interception return play.

The suspension was imposed by NFL executive vice president of football operations Ray Anderson, who stated in a letter to Mack: "Your actions are of particular concern in light of the emphasis that our office has placed on developing and enforcing rules designed to protect players from injury, including concussions."

NFL..... No Fun League.... I thought for sure that the quarterback was a pad wearing player just like everybody else on the field? If you cant handle getting hit than get out of the game. You cant blame the guy for hitting hard. He has big shoes to fill following other hard hitters like Barber and Lynch. GO BUCS....

Using a players head to ram another players head is against the NFL rules on ANY player, not just the QB. They were taking dirty shots at Ryan all day, But thats what Tamapa is known for. The hit this guy is getting suspended was a hit that was after the play was over, no call for taking head shots to ANY player after the play is dead.

Trying to make a name for himself? Hes doing that alright, but in all the wrong ways. You cannot go helmet to helmet, no matter the player. You also cannot throw a massive block that far away from the play, no matter the player you are hitting. Ryan was making no attempt to make a play, he was in the middle of the field when Mack came out of nowhere. It wouldnt matter if it was Turner, White, or Weiner (had to throw that in there), its a dirty play against the rules.

The Bucs and Falcons play twice a year and I bet at the next game Ryan will remember to keep an eye out for the same damn hit. Mind games on the field all day long.....

Not sure if you were implying otherwise, but from what I could tell, Ryan could handle getting hit (even cheaply) very well. :)

Yeah he took it, the clean and dirty hits and got right back up and kept giving it everything he had, He never gave them the satisfaction of taking him out of his element, In fact the 2nd half came out and did quite well actually.

Not about the Falcons per say, Its about a cheap shot that could really end someones career if he would have gotten a neck injury, etc from it. The Tampa Bay team has always played that way, I am willing to put money down that Chucky tells his players (Especially for new QB's) to play as dirty as they can without getting caught. They are a dirty playing team. You will not see the Falcons treat them like that when they come to our house later this year, Most teams dont play as dirty as Tampa does.
