Online Stock Trading

For those of you that do online trading what companies do you recommend? Any good tips? The last time I did anything close to stock market trading was back in 6th grade as part of a statewide program and my team finished in 2nd out of the state and in like the top 10 or something in the nation.

I would prefer one that as low cost per trade, but also a reputable company.

how easy is it to use and what kind of tools do they have from a users perspective. any hidden fees that pop up later?

They seem to have a lot of tools but I use fool.com for a lot of my info, I just use sharebuilder for transactions.. which is about $9.95 each.

ever dealt with TD Ameritrade?

i use forex... i like it. just started a few weeks ago. my buddy has done it for years and honestly is rolling in money. im only in the small market right now, but hes in the big market with tens of thousands of dollars.

forex is a completely different market than the US stock market.

I have used TD Ameritrade and Etrade Pro. Both are pretty good. Paper trade for a few months (i suggest this even though you wont do it). All the US based brokers are pretty good. Think iwas paying 8bucks a trade at TDameritrade and the same at Etrud.

All commisions are flexible, after a few months of really heavy trading call them and ask for a lower rate. It can save you alot of money if your a really active trader.

Etrade pro is a good option, or stardard etrade for the less active trader. Etrade also has a decent savings APR, good for storing extra cash in.

Ill swing back by and type some suggestions for ya after u pick a broker.

I use etrade pro, never had an issue, good program with lots of flexibility and in depth charting analysis.

Write down when and for how much did you by stock on some paper, and then proceed to track its performance while pretending you actually own it. Then you would implement your own strategies to deal with either selling the stock when it reaches your goals, averaging down, buying more, etc. Fake trading essentially.
