Not sure if this "political" but it pretty much is....

This morning I received the following e-mail from Newt Gengrich (per my membership of American Solutions)

Dear Andy,

I just finished up a radio interview with Sean Hannity and I wanted to share with you some exciting news. I was on Sean's show to debut country music star Aaron Tippin's new single entitled "Drill Here, Drill Now." The song was inspired by our "Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less" movement and masterfully captures the pulse of Americans who are tired of paying too much for gas while Congress does nothing about it. You can listen to the interview here <http://www.americansolutions.com/SolutionTV/AudioPlayer.aspx?GUID=216170a1-7645-447d-8052-e636f2744f56 (http://www.americansolutions.com/SolutionTV/AudioPlayer.aspx?GUID=216170a1-7645-447d-8052-e636f2744f56)> .

As a country music fan, I've always known Aaron as an outspoken artist who takes a stand for hardworking Americans. And when I first heard his song, I knew it would become the rallying cry for more American-made energy. Just read the opening lines of the song and you'll see why:

Hello.....Is anybody out there listenin' in Washington D.C.
This is the suffering voice of America crying out for relief
Now I don't know what a gallon of gas costs up on Capitol Hill
But we sure know what it costs down here in Realityville

If you're anything like me, once you hear this song you'll immediately want to forward it to your friends and family so they can hear it too.

Can you help us make this song a huge hit by downloading it today and asking your local radio stations to play it?

You can download or preview the song at www.AmericanSolutions.com/DrillSong (http://www.americansolutions.com/DrillSong). A powerful collision between pop culture and politics, this terrific song is sure to take America's airwaves - and Capitol Hill - by storm.

Now just to get a few things out:

1. I am for drilling.
2. I listen to Sean Hannity, don't always agree though.
3. I don't really listen to country music, save for some older stuff like Keith Whitley

But that's not what this is about.

Political music, when its not veiled in intelligent symbolism, sucks. Big time. And I would prefer that country music not be ruined by yankees like Sean Hannity and this Aaron Tippin fellow. Not that Toby Keith hasn't already done enough.:2cents:

And Newt. I would expect better from you.

HAHhAHAHA

yeah, I haven't heard the song yet but from what you posted it sounds like a real stinker. I think Billy Ray Cyrus did a "raisin' McCain" song for the RNC too.

A lot of good political country music has come from the Left wing:

Townes Van Zandt does a song about homelessness:

Steve Earle - Rich Man's War:

etc. Country music is probably one of the most effective genres for political music when it's done RIGHT. But most of the country music that is done right nowadays is not part of the Nashville establishment.:2up:

I think lefties are generally better at using art as a form of protest...they understand things like metaphor and allegory.

...the one exception being Orwell's Animal Farm, possibly the greatest satire to date.

A word of caution to anyone who clicks on that link that Nerdsrock posted... turn your volume down before you do because the Flash player on that site just blasts it

I just listened to a few seconds of it and it is pretty awful. And the worst part is they give you 15 seconds or so free and then they want you to buy the MP3. .:lmfao:
