View Full Version : My Turbo NSX got me in trouble this weekend!

Most people know I now have the new LoveFab Turbo Kit on my NSX. I also just finished the AKA Rally last Friday. (See the story here) (http://www.importatlanta.com/forums/showthread.php?t=192813)
This past Friday, I got a call from Deaf Patrick while I was relaxing on my boat in the early evening. He wanted to come over and get a ride in the newly turbo'ed NSX. He wanted to see if a boosted NSX really made a noticeable difference over the supercharger. Well we grabbed dinner with some friends and on our way back to my home; I decided to let him feel what the boost could do.
Around Midnight, we were driving NB on the I-75 near Moore Mill Road in forth gear, I decided to blip the throttle and get on the boost…in a matter of seconds, I saw the boost gauge climb to 5lbs and the speed read about 120mph. As I was coming off of the throttle, My V1 went nuts and indicated a laser hit. “Oh Sh*t” I say but where is the cop? Well about quarter of a mile up, I saw the Atlanta Police officer starting to roll in the slow lane ready to take off after me. I quickly got into the slow lane and pulled right in front of him. I turned off the car and got my license out and waited for him to write me the biggest ticket of my life.
The officer comes to me window and asked me to step out of the car. At this time, Patrick is laughing his ass off at me as the officer proceeds to ask me (actually yelling at me) trying to find out what the rush was. As soon as I told him I was testing something, he asked me to turn around. Everyone in my world knows that means…IM GETTING ARRESTED!!! I asked him are you really arresting me for speeding??? He told me I put him in a precarious position because he called ahead to his sergeant and the Georgia State Patrol to assist in the chase he thought for sure I was about to give him! He honestly said if he didn’t call ahead to the other officers, and he knew I was going to pull over, he could just give me a citation and let me go but he had to arrest me at the point. He also said he could impound the car but he allowed Patrick to drive it back to my house.
In the back of a police car handcuffed is nowhere I want to be ever again. The handcuffs actually hurt and without a seatbelt or padding on the seats, my ass was sliding and falling all over the place. It was as if he was racing to the jail trying to prove a point. When I got into jail, City of Atlanta downtown location (on a Friday night at midnight) I walked into a world of “WTF is all of this”??? I don’t belong here. I am sitting here with drunks, killers, rapist, molesters and I was there for Speeding. I am not trying to justify or lessen my actions whatsoever but shouldn’t they have a different area for lesser offenses? I am sitting there trying to come up with a rougher reason for being in there.
I saw everything from Transsexual/Transgender Prostitutes, fight victims (blood still dripping down their face) and everyone else you could possibly imagine. I arrived in the jail about 12:20 and I was doing pretty well (trying to act hard) until about 3am when many of the other inmates were starting to fall asleep. my defenses started to easy up until a new crew of inmates entered the jail and these guy were even worse. I am thinking to myself Where the hell is Patrick with the bail money? It’s been damn near 3 hours and my ass is still sitting here when I can be in my bed. I cannot believe 8 hours earlier I was relaxing on my boat watching the sunset with friends and now I am sitting in jail with some of the most harden criminals in Atlanta. Well it turns out the computer systems in the jail were down until about 5am thus no one could be bailed out until it came back up. In addition Patrick could only take out $1000 out of an ATM and he actually called my ex to get the balance of the $1800 Bail.
5:30am hit and now I have to line up on the wall with the rest of the inmates. We walked the wall into a room for something they call breakfast. Their version of breakfast was two pieces of bread with a single piece of bologna on it. They also gave you a package of mayonnaise and mustard and a cookie with some type of funny looking green pickle juice for a drink. I wasn’t planning on eating anything but it was starting to scare me when other inmates were saying they’ve had their bond posted since Thursday and they were still waiting to get out. I figured at 8am I would call my mother if nothing had happen and I know she knows the right people to get me out. I just didn’t want her to know. I also had to hear chants from other inmates wanted to trade their cookie for my sandwich. Honestly take it my man...take it all. I am not planning on eating this unless I am still here tomorrow at this same time. Well 6:43AM they call my name. I was FINALLY able to leave. They asked me some check out questions and I was able to go.
I was charged with Speeding, 123 in a 55 zone and also wreckless driving. My bail was $1800. I know I am guilty and I need to face the fire but I just pray they don’t take my license. I know it was stupid and I shouldn’t have done it but I also find it ironic that I just returned from the AKA Rally where my top speed was 170mph and I averaged over 90mph and about 10 miles from my house, I get arrested for speeding.
Well my court date is September 25 and I will keep you posted on my result.
I washed and waxed my NSX and I think I am putting her away for a while and time to drive the Miata.

Not to sound like a ****, but you deserved it. You just came back from a sanctioned event where your top speed was 170 and you averaged 90 throughout the course. Both of those speeds are greater than the speed limits posted throughout ATL. However, the immature, fun side of me would say let me get me get a ride in it and try to outrun the cops. j/p

Mark Hill

The last time I went to court with him, was for 2 separate charges of 100-110 in a 55 both with reckless driving. I got a slap on the wrist and was told to slow down, didn't even get community service. I think he play golf with all the judges or something.

I really shouldn't say and I really should take my punishment like a man but I use to work for the City of Atlanta in a pretty high position and I still know alot of people. I think I might have to call in a favor to reduce the speed or something. I will pay the fine but if my insurance sees a wreckless driving on my record, I am really going to get it in da ass :idb:

Get a lawyer man.
If you represent yourself, you WILL lose your license.
This is coming from someone who doesn't have their license, and went through the same court you're about to.
I get mine back December 17th.....

If he is under the age of 25, you will have quite a few classes to take.
Under 21... You're ****ed. But you have a beautiful vehicle, so I'm going to assume you're older than that. Just to inform other readers as well. DON'T MESS AROUND IN FULTON COUNTY!
I got my license pulled for 2 tickets under the age of 21. Neither were wreckless or speeding.

If he is under the age of 25, he may have many classes and community service to do.
Slow your roll there Matlock, that all depends on the judge and previous convictions.
Logan
09-07-2008, 11:42 PM
EDIT: Just looked at profile and you're over 25, so you're immune to many of those classes.
Slow your roll there Matlock, that all depends on the judge and previous convictions.
Under the age of 21 and regarding a traffic ticket, you are handled by one judge. Judge Gaines. You will be put into the "teens learning control" program which is exclusive to Fulton County.
Over 21, and you can have a variety of traffic court judges, but if under the age of 25, you could be entitled to some of the classes that are in the TLC program.

those little APD motorcycle cops are sneaky bastards on I-75 near turner FEILD. one of almost got me one day. as I passed him he pointed directly at me and I was in the left lane, I immedatly went 6 lanes across 75 at like 4:30 on a Friday, take the next exit roll through the DEEP HOOD lol for about 10 min taking every turn possible then pulled behind a random gas station for like 20 min. then went about my merry way.

APD NEVER show up to court. Plead innocent and the cop wont show up. I had a 33 over in atlanta and it was dropped when the office didnt show up. I have several APD friends and they tell me they dont get in trouble when they dont show up. PLUS your night shift cop aint gonna want to show up to a morning court hearing

got my suspended license tee-shirt back in 1999 thanks to APD. dude came at me with gun pointed and screaming, after i had already pulled over at had my hands out the window (saw on cops that it makes them chill out if u be courteous). didnt go to jail though. drove 8 months on suspended license to finish tech school and go to work. it sucks but what can u do? i was 19 and damn sure didnt have money for a lawyer.

Yes definitely contact a lawyer, since they know the loop holes to where you can get some charges dropped/lessened. And Jail sucks, I don't think they will put lesser offenders in another area due to the impact it has on people, mainly it shows you you never want to go back their. Also If I got Busted in Doraville for doin' 91 in a 55 and didn't lose my license I don't think you will, but he didn't radio ahead since civic vs Doraville hemi-Magnum no need to radio

btw, the reckless will be dropped if you get a lawyer... they cannot charge you with reckless BASED on speed... its kinda like a double charge... if you were just hauling ass in a straight line in a single lane, you weren't driving recklessly... you were just excessively speeding. i've had that thrown at me a couple times, but both times the reckless was dropped because the officer said it was based on how fast i was going, and they cant do that.

Also do not take a defensive driving course online. I took one online and the court didnt want to accept it but they did. They told me they usually dont accept those but they let it slide. I am starting to see a common dominator
DEAF PAT is the devil :2up:

Damn dude, thats bad. Never been to jail i see, if you can do the crime, you can do the time. But about ur license, there are high chances that you will lose it, unless you have a good lawyer.
My cousin got cought speeding, reckless driving, speeding and some other ****. He got like 7 tickets at the spot, he didn't lose his license, but he was on 2 year probation.

Well I wanted to give everyone a follow-up with my situation.
This morning I went to court and I was VERY VERY HAPPY with the outcome.
My lawyer and I negotiated a deal with the prosecutor and pending the judges approval, we were able to settle on:
$1000 fine plus court cost (About $1400 total)
60 hrs Community Service
Defensive Driving School
In exchange for
Dropping the speeding ticket as well as the reckless driving tickets. The only thing that will show on my record is a non moving violation.
Zero point!!!
I can now breath again!!!
I am very happy with these results.
Now does anyone know where I can get 60hrs of Community Service in 30 days???

find a friend that is a teacher or works for a church to write it off for you. I had 100 hrs of community service YEARS ago and my buddy that is a teacher said i worked 100 hrs after school program for him. They didnt even call and check... although if they did he would cover for me anyway

^^^ That's lame. Judging from the OP's posts, I think he has more integrity than to do something like that. He got off pretty easy so I'm sure he's not going to cut corners and there's nothing wrong with doing community service. I volunteer every Thanksgiving I can to help feed the homeless so that I can reflect and appreciate all the things that I have and I think more ppl should do the same as well.

Call Goodwill. That's where I did mine. Nothing hard to do but it's boring as hell, but I guess you have to pay the price for your wrongdoings through monotonous labor lol.
Now does anyone know where I can get 60hrs of Community Service in 30 days???I did all of mine at my local YMCA and Boys & Girls Club. People were very cool and the work was easy. :goodjob:

I mean, I don't see why not...you are helping the community by teaching DP not to put crazy thoughts in your head....he's like the little devil on your shoulder that whispers little bad things you should try!

if you need to do community service, must ministries is a pretty straight place. its on cobb pkwy(41) and you can schedule the times you want to work, and if you do certain things they will give you additional hours for completing it. just fyi. i gotta do 40 hrs there as well

Dang, I should have gotten a lawyer. i got a wreckless driving ticket for acclerating to fast in a almost empty parking lot, and I lost my license got over 900 dollars in fines and 40 hours community service. You got off pretty good, you can do community service helping out at libraries and petsmart adoption services too, if you dont wanna help out at a shelter or anything.

At least u could afford to get out. I was stuck in that place for 3 days cuz I didnt have enough money to bail myself out and couldnt call out. I was in Dekalb. The cake isnt bad, but yes, that mountain dew lookin stuff is terrible.
