Ran a red, cop pulled me over, gave a ticket, w00t. How many points is that? I got a red light camera ticket a couple months ago, and it was 0 points, is this one 0 also or is this one 3 points?

Thought I could make it, it was yellow when I started crossing the intersection, oh well. I'm trying to read through the GA Law, why couldn't they write this **** in english, sigh...

if you hit a black guy in the process, that's 10 extra bonus points. 5 for a beaner.

i dont know, where did you get the number 3 from anyway?

you probably got 0 for the redlight because they can't prove who was driving...

that way they can confuse you and get the upper hand.

It wouldn't really matter who was driving, the ticket would get issued to the registered owner of the car in either case. So, I'm thinking this is a 0 pointer, which would be nice. Need some confirmation though.

either way it probably wont be that big of a deal if you

a. dont already have a bunch of points
b. drive more careful for the next year or so

I have 0 points now, so I'd rather keep it there if possible.

"Disobedience of any traffic-control device or traffic officer = 3 points", however when I ran the red at the camera it was disobedience, yet no points. Damn you confusing Georgia law.

did you get that off dmv.org or whatever? i was reading that on there too...

now that I think about it... my wife got pulled over for the same thing a couple years ago, and I don't think she got any points, i don't recall anyone ever mentioning it to her, we just had to go pay the thing...

sorry man, don't really know what to say, keep your fingers crossed and hopefully someone else will have some more valid info

I read it off the GA Department of Driver Services website, but if I understand it right, its cited under section 40-6-57* of the code, whereas the ticket says 40-6-20.

W00t, hopefully this will be good confirmation, and useful information for others.

Anyway, I found the violation I received from the red light camera, and it said I violated code 40-6-20 of the GA law, the fine is $70 and no points. And it says 40-6-20 on the ticket I just got, so it should hopefully be the same thing right ($70/no points)? I hope so!

More info

"Moreover, the limitation found in O.C.G.A. § 40 6 20(f)(4) clearly indicates that an additional penalty cannot be assessed. This subsection provides that the civil monetary penalty shall not be considered "a moving traffic violation," shall be deemed "non-criminal," and "shall not be deemed a conviction." This proviso prohibits the assessment of points, the reporting of a violation on a person's driving record, and the use of a violation for any insurance purpose. The language of this subsection further supports the conclusion that the penalties under O.C.G.A. § 15 21 73 should not be assessed."

Well goddamn! So, I called the DDS today. And the lady says it is 3 points. She didn't sound 100% sure, but I figure why take a risk. Whos got a good lawyer in Alpharetta? They should be easily able to take care of this, I would think.

lol, maybe the cop just forgot to ask for a license and issue the ticket, that started this thread. genius.

anyways, moving violations always generate points. you can count on it. anything that is considered dangerous/moving violation will get you points.
