nothing more than mass paranoia... everyone rushing to the pumps is bringing it on themselves. if people could comprehend what's actually happening and not panic about everything nobody would be running dry, people would just be smarter about their usage for a while until things get cracking again.

They wouldn't be running out of gas if everyone wasn't running to the pumps to get gas! The governer has already stated that the state is not running out of gas and to only go fill your car up if you need to, and that there is no need to go to the pumps. All this is a big hoax...

Here's the scoop from the Governor...

Gov. Sonny Perdue asked Georgians to remain calm over the rising price of gasoline, saying the state's major distributor should be operational by the weekend.

"There's no reason to panic. There's plenty of gas on the way and the only way we'll have problems locally is if we rush out and hoard," the governor said during a Wednesday afternoon news conference. "Stay calm and conserve, don't just run out to top off your tank. Just continue with normal fueling habits."

Hurricane Katrina knocked out power to two pipelines that bring gas and jet fuel into the region. The lines have been down for two days while the Metro typically holds onto a 10-day supply of gasoline.

"That does affect our gas supply and it's led to an increase in gas prices," the governor said of the pipeline problem. "This is a temporary problem due to Hurricane Katrina and will be resolved soon. It is not a cause for alarm or panic. It is not a long-term situation."

Governor Perdue said he contacted the state's gas distributors Wednesday morning and has been assured that they are working to address the supply problem. He said that a significant amount of the state's gas supplies are not affected because they arrive at the port, not by pipeline.

"To further ease the supply problem, we have temporarily waived the fuel additive requirements to expand the supply of gasoline," he said. The EPA approved the request to waive the additive, which allows for more types of fuel to come into the metro area.

In Forsyth County, 11Alive Reporter Jennifer Leslie witnessed the price of a gallon of gas shoot up to $3.50 a gallon before dropping back to $3.09 just an hour later. 11Alive.Com found one station in Stockbridge selling gasoline for a whopping $3.56 a gallon.

Instead of adding to the lines at the pumps, Perdue suggested, "Why don't just relax and spend the time with your children?...we're going to get through this just fine."

He acknowledged that while higher gas prices are an inconvenience, Georgians should keep in mind the massive humanitarian disaster in Lousiana and Mississipi.

The Clean Air Campaign is using the gas price situation to ask drivers to sign up for its Commuter Rewards program that offers cash for drivers who switch to a clean commute. Those who use mass transit, telework, carpool, walk, or bike can earn $3 per day.

thats exactly why i went, b/c i don't want to be caught on E when they have to shut the pumps down in my area; i was under 1/4 tank anyway.

they have confirmed some stations are out, some have gone as high as 4.59 on regular, but there is still gas. i would just be proactive about it. if you didn't get it already, i would wait for the line to go down b/c i saw people lined up for blocks trying to get it

Gas stations yesterday were paying about 2.5 (around ) a gallon... Today they are making a killer in profit. BUT they will have to pay up the ass tomorrow or in 2 days to get gas in there wich means profit down the drain and prices will go up higher then they are now to make that money back Thanks to people acting stupid.

Theres a few station in GA right now that already shut down without even running out of gas just so they can make a killing when prices go up more. Rumors are they have about 20 k gallons underground just waiting. Once that prices goes up BAM.. hammer everyone else.

They just had one of the pipeline guys on the news, he said what started this was they were out of gas at some of the terminals and truck drivers had to go to other terminals to get gas... this is due to the gulf situation b/c the pipelines between here and the gulf are down. so there is a slight shortage until the pumps get up between LA and AL.

supposably in a couple hours one of the refiners is supposed to try to get production up to 25% of normal and trying to use the one pump in LA to push the fuel 250 miles to AL; which has never been done. The main issue is all of the pumps are down in Miss. holding up the pipelines.

Half the stations in Cumming are out. I was going to wait to fill up tomorrow, but they will probably all be out by morning.

Funny how everyone freaked out..It was crazy.

Hell two stations here in stockbridge was over 4.50 ..But drive down the street and other stations had it for 2.89..

I stopped for gas at 7pm with no freaking lines or wait -->3.09 for 93 ..

In duluth the stations were crazy after lunch..Lines for 1/4 mile or longer at times..

Id drive my beater(f150) but hell the stang pulls way better mileage on the highway(22+mpg).. :D

Because of the way people act, freaking out and piling up at the tanks, the prices skyrocket. You don't see that shit with any other basic retail need. Like when everyone's hitting up the bread and milk, you don't see the grocery stores being like, "fuck, let's make all the bread $5.00!"

The thing that bothers me about gas prices is that, a store owner has XX amount of gallons that he was going to sell for $2.80 a gallon, he gets word that there's a shortage, and suddenly he jacks his prices. The government should be able to protect us from this type of activity. But, really, its our own damn fault for hording anything that we assume we may not have 100% of in a few days.

The truth is most of our gas comes from the port of savannah, the pipelines that supply us are back up and running in limited capacity. There's not going to be a shortage, some gas stations are out of gas cus all the idoits decided to fill up their cars at once. If you did that on a regular day, the same thing would happen. I HATE people!

WRONGGGG AGAIN THERE IS A GAS SURVEY THAT EVERY GAS STATION HAS TO MAKE SURE THEY KEEP IN THE MEDIUM COMPETIOTION THIS AND THAT I KNOW I WORK FOR BP AND OURS IS HIGH BUT AS OF RIGHT NOW THERE IS A GAS FREEZE IN ALL STATION THAT MAKE ALL GAS STATION REMAIL UNDER 3.99 UNTIL 2 MORROW GAS IS XPECTED TO GO UP TO $5 BY THE WEEKEND THANK YOU! AND IT DOES UPDATE HOURLY NOTICE THE TIME NEXT TO THE STATIONS

because everyone obeys the law. jackass.
people have been price gouging even after the gov. gave his speech. hell i got bored and drove around last night for about 40 miles. while most gas stations were ~3$ i counted 6 that were charging 4$ and up
