I was attempting to replace the clucth in my 96 civic ex, well I got everything out, and replace all new with a clutch kit and fly wheel and after I started to put the trans back on I realized I left the dust cover off, by that time I was like screw it im not taking the all that back off for that. Will that do any damage not having it? Next I try to get the transmission to line upo with the engine and cant, any idea why not? I mean it gets pretty close but i cant get the dial pins close enough to actually line it up. Please help if you cant. thanks

did you use an alignment tool when you bolted the clutch down....

you have to move the trans in a certain way to get it to go in...

get at it from the top bend over teh fender, dont bend teh fender adn pick up the tranny and slowly jiggle it while turning left and right if you cant get it from the bottom ...just take teh fender off

I really do not want to take the engine out. I know it isnt hard but thats more work then id rather do to the car.

i did it myself when i done the b17 swap . and when we swapped a tranny for a guy who came up here ... really wasnt that hard . in all seriousness it prolly would have been quicker to pull the whole motor .. EXSPECIALLY in a HONDA ...

dont pull the motor to put a tranny on. double check your alignment. if everything checks out just pick the tranny up from the top. try to wiggle it in dont worry about the pins until u got the shaft lined up. once the shaft is in the rest is easy. if your not comfortable picking the tranny up by yourself have a friend under it pushing it up and helping wiggle it in.

the dust cover dont worry about.

if you used the allignment tool did you move it around slightly when tightening then when done did it slide out easily? also did you put the clutch in backward? the springs and all the bulk side of disk should be facing tranny pressreplate and flat side toward flywheel.ne ways if all done right just wiggle r home and up and down, lol.

, thanks for those who replied and I finally got it all back together. The clutch works great, I installed everything new, fly wheel and all, well my problem now is, when I press the clutch in it makes a sorta whining noise, like a slight metal rub. I bent my dust cover putting it back on, I think that may be in, but the I dont see how it could be because when you press the clutch in the dust cover doesnt come isnt close to anything involve with the clutch, its behind the fly wheel, and I know the flywheel dont move in and out. Any Ideas on what it could be. I havent really drove it but up and down my driveway so far since its 1:30 AM, I figured id wait till daylight to dive it around. When I first started the car after the install it made the noise, then it stopped, and now its doing it again, only when holding the clutch. ANy help or Ideas would be great. thanks

i had a bud that had that prob.a couple of his fingers on his pressure plate were bent during the install causing a wierd whine. see if you barely push it in just enough to get in the gears if it still does it. if not then just dont put it to the floor during your shifts.

It does it even if I barely start to press the pedel, I dont like it. Do you think it will go away after a break in period or am I Stuck with the noise unless take it all apart again? It only does it when I press the clutct pedel in, I just dont get it

thanks to all who replied. I rode around all day trying to figure out what the problem was, I got home and removed the dust cover and problem is gone. I knew I should have just left that thing off in the first place.
