...just general info and such....

variable valve timing and lift electronically controlled=vtec

b16 is a 1.6 civic motor. vtec. the 1 and 2 are the generations of that b series

SEARCH, and SEARCH LONG AND HARD

VTEC =variable valve timing system in honda engine, although Toyota, LExus, Audi, etc
all have a smiilar system to Honda VTEC. what it basicalyl does in simple mans terms is there are 3 lobes on a camshaft, the camshaft has 2 lobes for normal driving that have seperate lift and duration specs. when you get on it and go WOT aka wide open throttle, the camshaft switches to a bigger lobe on the cam.

its hard to explain if you dont know how an OHC engine works. i suggest googling

B16A or B18C etc is BLOCK codes that honda uses to identify engines.

B denotes the SERIES of motor. B is a Twin Cam. the number that follows denotes the discplacement the engine has. B20 is a 2.0l, B16 is a 1.6 L, B18 is a 1.8l etc.

There are 2 types of B series motors, Vtec and NON vtec
B20 and LS aka B18A aka B18B are NONVTEC
B16B, B18C5, B18C, B18C1, B16A, B16A3, B16A2 are VTEC

btw:

the only vtec motor that counts is the h22.......(except for the k series....damn that k series....damn that to hell!)

Well I have a 1st gen Mazda, but I do know its a 1.8L(whatever that is) DOHC=dual overhead cam....i know that much.

But whats with the liters?

eViLMunkey

discplacement

how much discplacement that motor has. like domestics use cubic inches. 454, 308, 350 etc. Foreign cars use Liters. 1.8L, 2.5L etc.

Think of Disceplacement as how big the motor is. a H22 aka Prelude motor is 2.2L, now compare that to a 1.6L motor like a B16.

H22 makes ALOT more TQ cause its a bigger motor

PSINXS

u just said it. 1.8 liters liters is 1800cc. its your displacement.

VTEC= is hyped up man, it is a great thing, I would rather have a motor with vtec right now, its just cool. But alot of high power builders prefer non vtec honda engines? Like the F22 in my accord, strong block and thy are putting it in that Insight drag car on SCC/
VTEC= alters the timing for the length of valve open time for optimum power or what ever you want it to maximize, pretty cool sounds in the Kseries

TQ=torque, right?

lbs per foot...I think

And what is the significance of that?

PSINXS
08-30-2005, 06:13 PM
