so my bro in law took off for Mississippi, we packed up his truck with bottled water, lots of non perishables, flashlights, night glo sticks, and some fresh fruits.....his grandma's house which is in Gulfport about 15mins away from all the casinos was completely flooded, they had to take refuge in the attic and all the cars were submerged in water, and apparently will not have power for a few weeks and the stores have already been looted early this morning, so I stopped by publix and bought as much as I could to help.....I feel so bad for them because everything we take for granted, electricity, running water, is something they dont have.

thanks B....

oh brett, dont get me started on my family in Slidell.....they all high tailed to Texas, and dont know what has happened to their homes, all fairly new and right on the Poncetrain, on the stilts of course....but we are all worried because no pictures have surfaced from St.Tammany's Parish/Slidell.....so we figure for the worse......my uncle who was a avid boat lover and classic car collector....I'm sure his boats are gone as his cars.....we just wish they would show something of the Slidell/St Tammany Parish area....so if you guys see anything, post links for me!

thanks!

its sad that people are looting. i was reading a story saying police arrested a bunch of people for looting and shit. the police have bigger problems to deal with - like rescuing people and shouldn't have to deal with that shit.

i've got clients in both MS, and AL - I hope they are doing ok. I saw pics of New Orleans and couldn't believe it. It looks totally different.

no, price gouging is being monitored best it can for what shops and gas stations that can open.....I filled two 5 gallon fuel tanks and sent that with the food...because I knew for a fact that no gas stations were operating in Gulfport.

did you know that in the early hours of the morning police and the military saw people the looting going on, but did nothing? tony's uncle went out and told them, but they said that they could do nothing just yet.....so basically, people who were greedy and wanted food for themselves are gonna go unpunished.

well first of all, when there was a MANDATORY evacuation....why did they stay behind in the first place?

okay, so let's look at the reasons why...

they had no means of transportation or money....that is not true, because almost all churches had all of their vans/buses for use for evacuation to a shelter in north Louisiana....

now, why do you need to loot tv's, radio's, and most importantly, ATM machines?

people were looting as soon as the weather let up for just a few minutes...the winds were still 70-75mph, but they knew that it was time to strike....

also, why loot? everyone knows you are in need, FEMA is trying to roll in...Salvation army has more than enough food at this point...

people are just greedy because they want MORE...doesnt matter what it is, they just want MORE than others.

and now to make matters worse, they are saying numerous pawn shops were looted for only the weapons....so now you have people who are theives and now have weapons in their hands....

with the winds they were having in the area i'm sure most of the cell towers have been beaten up pretty good. that, and the backup generators can only last so long before they run out of fuel so they will turn towers off/on in different locations to try to conserve it. my dad couldn't get service most of the day today in meridian but it popped on with the power later in the day.

he spent all day clearing trees off his coworkers house... nearly every large tree in the yard came down.

well, I finally got in touch with my family who is safe in TX, we are all really curious on why no media has shown Slidell/St Tammny's Parish...from what others have heard, they will not let media into that area....and have been told that it might be 1 month before they can go back to figure the damages, so they said they are heading here tomorrow afternoon and then onto my parents house, which is way bigger and has lots more room....

anyways, if any one sees anything about Slidell/St Tammny's Parish, please let me know!

Not that they gave up, Its just a loosing fight, the water is coming in to fast for them to make a difference and the pumps in that area are about to give out, nothing they can do at this point, Its not like they can get heavy equipment in to build a wall, they are doing this by hand with sandbags and its not helping, so they had to back off and worry about getting people out now instead. all my favorite cousins, and my uncle and aunt are, I visit them at least 3 times a year....but I dont see that happening anymore...

btw, thanks for all the info....I went to nola.com and found out about Slidell, it's in pretty bad shape, they are not letting anyone in or around that area because it's too "hazardous"

my brother in law made it back this morning, he said after passing mobile, gas stations were pretty much non exsistent, the closer they got to gulfport they had to manuever around trees and drive over alot of debris and once they got into gulfport he said there were slot machines littered throughout the streets, houses, gas stations, stores all wiped clean.....they had to climb a wall of debris to get to his grandmother's house and she was fine and so was the rest of the family, but his grandma and uncle refused to leave and wanted to stay behind and clean up, even after being told that they will not have power for weeks if not months....they had to siphon gas out of cars on the side of the road to get enough fuel to get out, he said he had to keep it in 4wd most of the time, and there was stench in the air that was really horrible. They ran out of fuel about 15miles before Mobile, and were able to coast it to a gas station that was closed and slept there over night, until someone drove to them and said that the gas station down the road was open but had a long line to wait....so they made it there and filled up and made it back just before noon....he's got tons of pics, but I forgot the grab his camera because he had to get back on base to work today, because he's on call to be deployed soon....

I'll post pics when I get them.
