Im gonna keep it going! This weeks subject is VEHICLES! I wanna see a pictures of cars, trucks, bikes, motorcycles, tricycles. Whatever you got that gets you from point A to point B! ONLY ONE PHOTO CAN BE SUBMITTED! so do not PM me your whole shoot you took. The vehicle can be your own, someone elses, one you see on the street. whatever. ONLY THE PHOTO ITSELF WILL BE JUDGED, NOT THE VEHICLE (so dont think you can go take a crapy pic of a lambo and get away w/ the contest).
As always, same rules apply. Watermark if you wish, Photoshop if you want. Point/Shoot and Single Lens Reflex cameras are allowed. Picture must be taken AFTER this thread has been posted. I'll give you guys until next tuesday night @ 8:00pm. PM all your pictures to me and i'll post them up around that time.

I think if folks get creative it could be really cool. Obviously if someone just sends in a iPhone pic of their civic, its not going to win. But this subject is something that we all photograph alot, but will force us to think outside the box.
I've got a couple of ideas... :camera:

Think outside the box, young padawon
Yeah.... Im probably the last person you need to tell that to. Not trying to be an ass, but just telling you that a subject for a photo contest shouldnt be as vague as the one you have listed. Take a look at the last couple...reflections/money/etc. You are on a car forum, all someone has to do is post a ****ty pic of a GT-R and all the dumbasses with a DSLR that post "PHOTOSHOOTS" are going to vote for it because it has a GT-R in it, and the guy that takes a pic of a homeless guy huddled on the side of a street with a Bus going by isnt going to win. Do you know what Im saying , "young padawon"?

it seems as if all the children chose the prettiest picture in the thread as opposed to referring to the topic.

Im trying to see the artistry here. Have you looked in the Car Pics section lately? Anybody w/ a camera can take a picture of a car, i want to see something deeper than just a car, but i wanted to leave the subject open so people dont get confused about what it is. And id say more than 90. i've seen alot of talent in here
Nerdsrock22

I'd say lets just give it a roll. If somebody can get access to shoot a new GT-R, and does a good enough job at it, then lets see it. But I highly doubt a quick capture of one driving down I-75 will make the cut.
I would expect, however, that most serious artists/photographers will take this chance to explore another aspect of transportation other than import cars/the usual bs.

I don't usually get in photography type of debates because it's such a subjective field where beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder.
Nemesis is right though. If you are going to do some type of contest and maintain a level playing field, you can't give such a vague subject. As Nemesis pointed out, this really should be judged by multiple criteria. Is the picture clear? Is it composed nicely? Does it follow the assigned subject? Is it creative? etc, etc, etc. If you do a "car" theme, you will definetly throw out lots of the objectivity and merely get a bunch of people voting for the picture based on their own bias as to what their favorite car is (likely).
I've voted in all of the previous challenges and used some of the criteria I mentioned above. If they stuck to the subject and their picture looked appealing, they got my vote.

I guess i could give you guys an idea of what to shoot so that it cant be biased. This example (unless you know whos this is) you cant even tell what kind of car it is, but its within the paramaters of the topic.

this is full of fail.Vehicles on a car forum is too cliche. All of us already have tons of car pics. It should be alternate vehicles, as in something that isn't a car or a bike, because it's too overdone. Also, these rules aren't written as well. FAIL.

thats the reason i stopped doing them....disagreement on what the subject would be, if certain photos fit the subject, people had issues with my photos, i had issues with others photos and other people had issues with other peoples photos :lmao:
then i looked at a picture that was clearly a great photo(not mine) and see it lose badly to a so-so photo(again not mine) and that keeps alot of people from taking part in this stuff. the votes were jacked up...it was a mess LOL
the voting is what screws it up....if there was no voting i think itd be something i would still take part in.

We all read the original post, and we all know that people will not vote for the composition and picture quality with that vague weighted subject.
Maybe you could throw in a stipulation of "no exterior shot of entire car" or something. Certainly not fool proof, but better. Maybe even a macro competition, where the goal is to take an image and have people guess what car it is.
lol, I suppose I'll enter maybe my entry will be voted on properly.

I have to agree. This particular idea isn't that good for a photography contest. I believe thinking outside the box ideas would be urban life shots, antiquity shots, countryside shots and the like. Not your average, everyday "take a pic of a car" contest. I've been wanting to get involved with these contests each week but haven't been able to make time for it. I know I'm a nobody in the photog world, but I'm not going to try to make time for this one. Sorry dude. Later, QD.

I really don't understand why this is such a hard topic for everybody. Transportation as a theme doesn't mean "go outside and take a picture of your car". There are an infinite number of routes to go here: trains, bikes, planes, anything. Sounds more like a cop-out for people that are dismissing it as stupid. :2cents:

Call it what you want, but this is a played subject. Get original with ideas. I really don't understand why this such a hard point to get for people. Sounds more like an attempt to try and make other people (better than they) look bad. You're one of the few member on here that I wouldn't have thought would bother getting into a tangle with me. Not trying to tangle my friend. Just healthy discussion.
I was given a lot harder topics to photograph in college. Try having to do a self-portrait and having to present it to peer criticism. In the world of facebook and myspace, it was near impossible to find a unique route of photographing yourself. I think when we are forced to find something interesting and unique in something we find so familiar, it forces us to step outside of our comfort zone. For example, there is no way that I would turn in a picture of my Fit for this competition, even though i love photographing it, because that would show a complete lack of creativity and effort.
I think that if we think thematically about this topic rather than bike racks, bbs's, and turbos, it could yield some cool results, that otherwise might have been overlooked. :dunno:
