yeah these are all just shot and posted. i didn't want to mess with p/s right now, i took almost 400 pictures so i didn't want to go through them just because. i may actually edit a few of my favorites and then post them. these were mostly just to see what i didnt this weekend rather than my best quality, BUT, these are a few of the ones that i thought turned out better than the rest.

:D yeah i took a ton of pictures while i was up there just messing around with adjustments and stuff, i really probably took about 6-700, but i deleted a bazillion due to blurriness or no light or something light that. i had a good time though and def. figured out how to use the sony a little better.

thanks for the compliments and criticism, any suggestions are good.

these are a couple that really show the benefits of a DSLR, although these are blurry, the lighting was amazing, it was a little after dusk in the woods minus 2 white fluorescent lights mounted in the trees and a bunch of candles.

What mode are you shooting in?

Most of the inside shots need some White Balance correction. They are very yellow.

Let me know if you need any assistance :)

yeah i had the white balance set on 6500 for most of the shots, i wanted to keep them soft, but i think i could have turned it down a few K's. oh well.

but i switched between modes quite a bit, i stayed in auto most of the time and then just manually adjusted the focus and the white balance.

can you explain what happens when i adjust the aperture? i know that the lower the number the lower the focus field but i can get the same effects whether it's up or down. so when would it be beneficial?

I would reccommend shooting in RAW and shooting on Auto White Balance. Then you can fix it in your RAW processor if need be :)

We want to get off the 'auto/green box' setting ASAP! It will make for 'worse' photos for the first couple of shoots but damn it will help in the long run!

If you shoot wide open AKA f/1.8 let's say you are looking at a very shallow depth of field. That means that the blades are 'wide open' and only what you focus on will be sharp and in focus, no much in front or not much behind. Only fast lenses will get down in the 1.8-2.8 range. Most lenses are 4+ and that isn't HUGE depth of field.

Landscape shooting you may shoot in f/8-f/11 and that will keep everything in sharp focus. This is letting in less light and thus will need longer exposures.

Aperture basically adjust the depth of field. I would recommend starting to shoot in Aperture priority and it allows you to choose your depth of field and the camera adjust the other settings :)
