What is the difference between the 78/82 Civic engines? How hard would it be to use the engine from a 82 Civic in a 78 Civic? Axles, mounting, etc.?

Any help/links/articles would be appreciated.

1st off - forget IA on this chassis (no offense). You can put D16, or B16s in the chassis - B18 is possible but there is no point in the extra work. The EK engines (Accord) work great - QD has a 1.8 EK engine swap in his 77.

CVCC, N600, Civic, Accord and hopefully a S600 by the end of the weekend.

What red one for $500? I am very interested! What condition is it in?

I have a 2 silvers, 2 grays, 1 red (wouldn't mind another) and a yellow on the way.

Hel I even have a TR-7, Celica-S, and a few more around here somewhere.

I can't find the red one anywhere. Was it sold already and why is the post gone? I have cash in hand if someone can point me in the right direction.

If I get this one I will gladly take ya for a cruise in it. I am offering a pretty penny for it but it runs perfect and is in the best shape I have ever seen a S model in.

My N will be done in a month or so and I will be cruising in it also. ;)

Athens, Tn or Ga.? I don't know anyone else around here that likes those lil cars but I don't know everybody. I do know Ray Moss in Athens, Tn that has about 12 of these things and still buying them up.

Sounds like a good deal if it isn't all rusted or beat up. You have any pictures? I will email him real quick and see if he got it. Did he just get it or was it earlier in the week?

Actually I had my 76 CVCC Wagon since 1998. I had the gray 77 registered in my name in 2002. The 82 only for about 6 months and not sure about the lil 600. The 82 is not CVCC but I have several that are. I do know the difference but when describing body styles I sometimes say CVCC just to get peoples minds off the newer body styles and back to what I am talking about.

I have never before tinkered with them like I am attempting to do now, always stuck to domestics and don't care to work on these still.

^^^ Lolol.

If you'll look on the block (side or top), you'll see a number that starts with an EM or an EJ followed by a dash and then about 6/7 numbers. Get that number to me. I had an 83 engine in my 79 before we put the Accord engine in.

But get that number and we'll go from there. Later, QD.

I ain't even going there because you weren't old enough to have a drivers license when I had my first one. I remember it being a red auto and wish I still had it. Technically it wasn't mine but in my parents name. Man I hated driving that car. I went from my 74 Formula Firebird to that dam Cvcc and there was nothing cool about it back then.

Now quit being a bich and help my azz out with these giant roller skates.

Austin and myself went out on an adventure and found this. I do not have a 78 at all. I traded my blue 78 years ago but kept the 74 and the 79. I had the colors confused and always got them mixed up and apparently still do.

78 cvcc motor tag
91 CID
under hood id # 79 fd
door tag sg-e5008966
1979 Civic CVCC SG 2 door hatch back 91 CID 5 speed trans.

That is why I kept that one I guess. I had forgotten all about them, the TR-7, MY Falcon, etc. until recently when a friend drove his 73 over here to check out the new shop addition. Got me back in the groove of the classic and lil cars again.

82 civic motor loose in shop is:

HmS21F8 the "m" very well may be a symbol of sort but "m" is the closest thing to what it looks like.

I can get a fresh rebuilt D16A6 from a CRX for a very reasonable price. Has a few extras on it and well worth the deal but how hard will it be to get it in the 79 CVCC? Can I carb this engine or will I need the ECU, etc.?

I can get the attached rebuilt trans with the deal if I want it. He will assist me with the swap and told me that it should have over 120 hp at the tires?

You'll get into cutting the car up under the hood to get anything other than the 83 and older engine in there. You'll be hacking and reforming and modding fenders and all that. The quickest, easiest, painless swap to do is what I did. It isn't, by far, the most HP, but there are no mods to be done at all. Later, QD.

Throw a older ZC or D16A1 in it, you can carb those. They were factory carbed in Canada I believe?

So the motor that I posted a picture up out of the 83 Civic will work with no modifications? I don't care about the power as much as I do keeping the car in tact. I am assuming that the 5 speed tranny from the 79 will bolt up to that motor?

Yes. That engine will go in with NO mods. And it will bolt up to the factory 5 speed. But the engine HAS to be a 1500 and not a 1300. That's where the block number comes into play. My swap had a minor mod done to it as in having the alternator bracket grind down to fit it properly next to the engine block. Later, QD.
