Jeezy-not intelligent enough to be taken seriously. Just another guy that wants a black president purely for the sake of having one.
Nas-extremely intelligent guy, definitely should be taken seriously with his words. However I do disagree with him seeming to have an opinion that Obama is going to save black people or something, they're not looking into the real politics of the matter.
Black people don't necessarily need Obama. They're looking too much into the color of his skin instead of trying to find someone that will truly make a difference, seeing as they're ignoring that Obama is politically inexperienced and is not going to make Nas or Jeezy's life any different. Yes, having a black president will be a large step for the black community, but most rappers and other black celebrities are supporting him for the wrong reasons.

I dont think that this is a fair observation considering that their opinions and views may be more than what they put on a track. Jeezy may not be the most intelligent but clearly he is a prominent voice in the community. Maybe not your community but def in mine. I think it is great when someone that may not know enough motivates others to LEARN something about a system they may not be aware of. I am not black and I have been an Obama supporter since he made his speech at the DNC when they announced Kerry as their presidential candidate. His speech (his rhetoric) made me want to look into his past and learn more about him. I supported his campaign when he ran against Keyes (also a black man/Republican) in Chicago. Actually, about 3 years ago...I also supported McCain. He was very vocal against the Bush administration and has been quoted a thousand times stating his opinions against the war, but now all of a sudden "100 years if we have to." If i remember correctly he is the same man that was unsure what party to choose because he couldnt decide b/w the Republican Party or the Democratic. In Kerry vs. Bush, I voted Kerry because I felt that Kerry was the lesser of 2 evils. In Obama vs. McCain, I will vote Obama, because IN MY OPINION, he is the better candidate. Inexperienced in who's eyes? Compared to you or me, nah I dont think so. Lol at you assuming I like McCain. They're both idiots, but black people are acting like if McCain wins they're going to be enslaved or something. You think Jeezy has any problems under the current system? He's ****ing rich, and the wrong person to be speaking out for Obama. If anyone needs to be supporting Obama and the black community it needs to be someone with political knowledge and intelligence, not a guy who has to resort to mentioning that his lambo is blue, and his rims are too.

 What in the world gave you that impression? A bit much dont you think? I mean Catholics felt Kennedy was their savior when he won b/c he wasnt Protestant. I just see it the same way to me in this presidential race except for the fact that this time it isnt religion, it's race.
As far as the only people that should be backing Obama and the black community being someone with political knowledge, dude are you serious?
You do realize that minorities voting is far from what USA wants. Think about it. if indeed the system worked as easy as everyone makes it seem. Then wouldnt the United States children born to illegal immigrants that came here for the sole purpose of having a child that can prosper in the US eventually get involved in politics and become prominent voters, that with help from lobbyist and insiders, help to pass bills that help make it easier for others from around the world to come here? Think about this... This is what would happen if everyone was this educated. But not everyone is this educated so I am sorry but once again, I think that anyone that goes out of their way to sing, preach, spread the word for their beliefs are worth commending because there are plenty of people that really just dont care.

Don't generalize or assume. How do you figure that? Stupid comment sir, stupid. Its like saying white people think Obama will kick all the white people out of the country.
If anything Obama is putting a new perspective on top of this countrys tired, tried, and old views. He understands the younger generation, our purpose, and puts emphasis on the future. EDUCATION is whats ****ing this country now. THE LACK OF IT. People under the age of 30 are next in line to take America to the next level. I applaud Bush for the No Child Left Behind.....but we need more!
I look at it like an advertising firm failing to get account and clients. Always sticking to what "worked", but the results are falling. They fail to look to the young person, the intern, or even the world in front of them. Until that day when the "inexperienced" person steps up and lays the smack on thier old asses, lol. Sales are up, clientle is up, and the company has a fresh rejuvenation to work on.
If this country keeps leaning on the old, corrupt, second agenda having people we are due to be ****ed worse.

Sorry dude, slowlybtngu is pwning your ass in this little debate. Just like she said, you are calling Jeezy and idiot based on what he says in his songs. Have you ever had a one on one with him? Have you sat down and talked politics with Jeezy? Unless you have, then stop saying he has no political knowledge. Thats being as ignorant as assuming that black people think Obama is their savior. Because that is not true, I know a few black people who will not be voting for Obama because they do not agree with his views. They dont agree with McCain either, so they are just not voting at all. Sort of like me, except I am white and they are black. But we share the same views.

Some what back on topic... Have you all heard lupe Fiasco's song dumb it down? I think that this is an example of that(the song.) The easiest way to get people to listen is if you relate to them on their level not try to bring them to yours. He ties in the cars because whether some like to admit it or not, we spend thousands upon thousands on our vehicles, all the while living in an apartment or renting a house. I mean reality is a pain in the butt to face but he really is reaching out to HIS community with this song. I know what it's like to have my mom not at home while my father was in jail. I may not be "street" enough to be considered "hard" but the song caught my attention.

Hell... i was a McCain fan after he was on the DailyShow but i didnt appreciate the
fact that he started butt sucking and renigged on half the shizz he's said in the past.
but any who... INDEED black n¡ggers should learn more about Obama before they up and decide to vote for him because he's HALF black.

97% of IA prolly can't even deicpher that lyrical genius!
That is how life is, you should be able to realte to everyone. I strongly feel the President of the United States should understand every struggle that our country's people endure. Then, and only then, will we see true progress and success.
Obama is the closest, McCain has no clue. His idea of getting in touch with the black commuity was going to the National NAACP convention, lol. Go to the community meetings to make an impact. Same with all other mintority groups!
Obama is not popular b/c he SEEMS (IMO!!!) out of touch with the older traditional white americans. He needs to make a better push showing he understands and respects they way things have been done to keep America afloat to win them over.

You and that word... The sad thing is that you're using it in the right context. If you vote for him for the sheer fact that he looks black (even though he is only half) then yes that is a "n!gger vote." I would have to agree.
And as you stated, McCain was great!!!!!!! (about 2-3years ago)

Whoa, I see your point, but calm down! Talk is cheap, education is the only thing that will save America. The Obama campaign has done alot in the area of educating people on the economy, the presidental race, the candidates, and what each stands for.....mind you in a unbiased manner.
Also, that is the same reason that white people will not vote for him. Many whites WILL NOT vote for a black person.

You know what is funny though? He lived with his (white)Vet grandfather and (white)traditional working grandmother for most of his life. You would think that he would be able to relate closely to that community. That is what I dont understand. I mean I know that in his biography he stated that he had a battle of what side to choose because when you see him, you see a black man. I wonder if that had/has anything to do with it. He even mentions how his grandmother was afraid to ride the public bus because there was a menacing black man that frightened her. It's crazy you know, like having to live with the fact that to an extent his grandmother is intimidated by this whole "black thing" but this is still the woman that would give her life for HIM. It's deep. (I hate that phrase, but it applies here)
Jeezy may not be deep but he brought back memories with the line I stated above. Then again deep wounds kill but paper cuts are the ones you feel the longest.

I agree! I cannot imagine growing up in his shoes. I will say that, IMO, his grandmother probably did not expose him to as much of "the times". Make sense? She loved him like no other, and understood his dilemna.
People are stubborn which gives everyone the chance to conquer. Obama has a lot of work left, and I have faith in him to begin the patchwork that America needs.

While I understand why, I hate to say it but while there are people that live at this level... It will always remain. Like on Nas' album, the track talking about roaches, he states it very clearly. "N*ggers will never die."
I think that the term would go away once people stray away from it's conotations. I mean I still hear gook, chink, or sp!c, but no where near as much as I hear n!gger.

I knew you guys were going to freak out about that lol.... it was a little joke. But I stand by the fact that Jeezy is definitely the wrong guy to be representing Obama. Definitely gives off the wrong impression and that's not what people should be listening to. Nothing wrong with black people having a sense of pride that they finally have a candidate that can properly represent their interests, instead of having Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton. The black community should be extremely proud for this advancement, but Jeezy definitely did not get the message right. Put yourself in Obama's postion, do you want "the snowman" pubicly representing you? I can guarantee you a lot of people are going to critisize this, and while I personally dont agree with that, I'm not the media. You guys think I'm bad? Go watch the news and see what they say.

Jeezy is a mouthpiece that hits a genre. The people who needed to get the message got it.
The intelligent people who can see thru Jeezys words understand what he is doing, but there are some who only scratch the surface and take the plain words.
It's like reading poetry; reading that stuff without reading for understanding will leave you lost as hell, lol.

only reason why Kennedy has a place in history was because he was assassinated. There was nothing great about him
- Kennedy won the Pulitzer Prize in 1957 for his book Profiles in Courage.
- Kennedy was the fourth president to be assassinated.
- At age 44, Kennedy became the youngest man elected president.
- Kennedy was decorated for heroism in World War II for saving three men after his vessel was sunk by a Japanese destroyer.
- Kennedy was the first Roman Catholic president.
- Kennedy was the first President to hold a press conference on television.
- He was the first president to also be a Boy Scout.
- John F. Kennedy was the first president to use the desk that was a present from Queen Victoria.
- Kennedy was the first president who had served in the U.S. Navy
- Kennedy canceled all White House subscriptions to the New York Herald Tribune
- Kennedy was a very fast random speaker, with upwards of 350 words per minute.
- His right leg was 3/4 of an inch longer than his left, so he wore corrective shoes to make up for it.

only reason why Kennedy has a place in history was because he was assassinated. There was nothing great about him
You cant say he wasnt charismatic. C'mon dude. You cant get elected president if there isnt more to it than a popularity contest which he wasnt popular at the time for not only being of Italian decent but also a Catholic, but he did have military experience, won a pulitzer prize for Profiles in Courage, and was the youngest president... To say he had nothing else memorable besides the assasination is a little wrong dont you think?
I mean not to bring Bush up, but even he had to have more than charisma (A LOT MORE) to win, twice. Whether it's the fact that he ran a better campaign or just the fact that he reached out to the people that didnt vote often enough by reaching out to them where they live/work/hang out... Which back on topic...Is what I think Jeezy did with this song for Obama.

Dang, you beat me to it. lol
He was a good man, but also made mistakes. I dont agree with the bay of pigs...but ehh... You wont always agree with what a leader and his counterparts do.

It's like reading poetry; reading that stuff without reading for understanding will leave you lost as hell, lol.
:goodjob:
Or hell what about Shakespeare, he told a story with so many refined words and when you finally decipher what he is saying...He was a dirty old man! :lmfao:
I think that Jeezy did great on the song...For what it is.
Kennedy's handling of the Cuban Missile Crisis helped define his presidency, I know its hard to appreciate an avoided catastrophe but that situation could have been absolute disaster.
He accepted full responsibility for the Bay of Pigs. 4000+ troops dead and Iraq and not 1 remorseful comment from George W. Not many presidents will be honest and up front with the nation about their **** ups.
Kennedy started the Peace Corps.. if you consider that insignificant then I would love to introduce you to a couple of the volunteers.
Civil rights? But I doubt that matters to many of you here.. I mean why should minorities be afforded the same opportunities as whites?
Would Kennedy be as famous had he not been assasinated? No, but to say theres nothing great about him is a bit.. I don't know, ill informed.

The song in my opinion is garbage. I also agree with alpine_xj to a certain extent. I personally think black people would prefer Obama to be president because of the color of his skin. And feel as if Obama will pay more attention to their community since he's in the same race-boat. Since the Hip-hop community currently thinks that "Bush doesn't care about black people," they also think McCain feels the same way. Which just isn't true. I mean, just because what's his name said it, then it must be true?
I'm neither a fan of Obama or McCain, but when I hear rappers rappin' 'bout President this Obama that, I ride dirty 'cause I be makin' that money shawty low, now gemme that thang, It make's me think why are people really listening to garbage like this? Why can't they stop doing that and start listening and looking at what's important. Like what's going on in or world today. Again, the song sucks. Maybe they should stick to rappin' bout the hood and stuff instead of our current dilemma.

I just dont understand why people think that (I am not saying you but this is how it comes off based on this post) all black people are voting for him based on the fact that he is black. That is very offensive to me considering that even if a very educated black person voted for him because of his stance on certain subjects that are close to their personal outlooks, their vote will be seen as just another black person voting for a fellow black person. Believe it or not there are a lot of black people that are not caught up in their skin color to the point that they cant make an educated decision based on facts or publicity.
As far as the song sucking, cool. As far as them sticking to what they know... It isnt just them. There is a world outside of you world. Believe me it exists. maybe it is just my sociological bs that I learned in college, but just because you dont see it, doesnt mean it doesnt exist. Not everything is made evident at a glance. This music, this genre... It seems irrelevant to you because of the way you were raised, what surrounds you, and all of the things that make you who you are, and while that is a beautiful thing because it makes you (us) unique... You cant say that they arent looking at what is important. The problem is, important to whom? To you or to them? See where I am coming from? When my father was in jail to everyone else he was a criminal and deserved what he got, and while I respect that, to me...He was and still is my father. See that is my reality and I doubt that you can relate to me on that level.

I can put money on the fact that 90% of african americans that can vote, are voting for Obama because he is black! Even a well educated black man would vote, and not because of his background but because of his skin color. It's been proven through out history that one chooses to follow their own kind even through the harshes of times. Educated or not, blacks will always follow each other. It's proven fact. Just like latinos would risk their reputation for each other, and whites will march together to prove a point. Race tend to stick to their race. I'm not black, but I would vote for Obama because he doesn't sound as retarded as McCain does when he speaks.
A well educated african american who is successful, would still vote for Obama. Not knowing that Obama is planning on raising taxes for people making 250k+ a year. Why would they still vote for him? Because of his skin color. Test it our yourself, go out and ask some random black person who they would vote for if they could. I bet the majority of them will say Obama.

Oh and the whole Latino thing. I am very much so proud of my heritage, but rarely do I ever associate myself with "my own kind." He sounds constipated in everything he does. I do love "Put On" though...
I listened to the song and like everything Nas is in is top of the playlist for me.
I suck at politics, probably bc i dnt take the time to watch the debates and i dnt like reading (more than i used to) and i dnt really chill with anybody who talks about really deep/important stuff enough. Guys, I'm sorry, but I carry the stereotype that most black people voting for Obama are doing it because of his race simply because of what I've experienced. I cant even tell you how many black kids I know and have spoken to that literally are only voting for him because he's black. Another popular reason is because they think that McCain will somehow find a way to suppress them(so that stupid comment I made earlier, while an extreme exaggeration, had factual backing to some extent) I've even seen a black kid who supported McCain ganged up on because he's "betraying his people." I mean come on, what the ****. Those are the kind of people that Jeezy will get to vote for the most part, if you need Jeezy to tell you that he thinks Bush cheated and we need a black president to get you to vote you probably dont know much anyway. It is wrong to deny people their rights, and if they want to vote for Obama because he's black then so be it, but I just wish people today wouldn't need a rapper to tell them to go vote. The importance of who runs our country has been all but lost to our generation, and it doesn't make sense. Everyone wants to b1tch, nobody wants to act.

You know that I think this is the saddest thing in today's day. Why is it that people (I speak about my friends) are so consumed in themselves to care about the things that can change their circumstances. I swear I hate people that complain about the gov't holding them down but they dont have enough drive to get the hell up and go try and be a part of something to make it better...
(Speaking from personal experience) a few years ago I voted Democratic b/c I felt like Kerry was the lesser of 2 evils and not because of his stance on any particular topic. Life deals out hard cards to play sometimes. I was diagnosed with uterine cancer a year ago and all of a sudden certain things mattered to me that I never cared about before. The health issue is big to me because I am currently going through chemo and for those that dont know much about insurance, if you have a pre-existing diagnosis, insurance does not cover it. My bills are ridiculous and thanks to grants and charity my bills get covered but I still have to come out of pocket on a regular. I dont cry about my situation (at least not in public) but it gets hard. Obama's health insurance stance would benefit me. See, some people vote based on race, some of us vote based on our life (in hopes that he follows through and it's accepted by counterparts.) /rant

I cant deal with that. Like when I hear an opinion I do not agree with I try to feel the person out and see where they are coming from and it doesnt take long to figure out that they dont know where they are in life or for that matter where they are going.
I know this may seem weird but when I found out that my mom wasnt registered to vote I registered her and went through different stances with her and helped her figure out where she stands, go figure she is a republican. I respect that though because she made a choice. One of her biggest worries is Puerto Rico and it's current standing with the US. Bush was the one that finally got the military out of Vieques after 20yrs of bombing, so to her he is great. She doesnt agree with the war, but she sees it as something that doesnt affect her directly so she ignores it. People pick and choose what they care about that is why everyone's vote matters.

Thats just a tip of the iceberg.
Funny that Bill Cosby got crucified by leaders of the black community for basically saying the same thing.

i heard a little about bill cosby get bashed about something. I posted it bc i thought years about it and no matter what u say i got a comback for it.
Waiting for some haters to get in on it. Sh!t we can have a public discussion about it if you/they want. Like Pastor Troy always said "im ready fuh waw." LOL!!!
i mean dont get me wrong if your using that as a stepping stone, to an extent u have to sing what sells but dnt let that be all youre about and all you know. Get ur quick easy money and move on up the ladder to bigger and better things.
If i make the same amount of money per year that i make right now, u best believe i wasnt comfortable and never stopped trying to better myself in every way i could think of and that i took advise and tried more thing when i was out of ideas. Never settle bc u can always do better. It depends on how bad u want whatever it is u say u want.

I completely agree, but you're forgetting that the general public doesn't require rappers to actually be good anymore. Sure, they could get their easy money and move on, but most dont because they can't do anything else. Take Soulja Boy for example, the epitomy of the downfall of mass released hip hop. You think that idiot would've been rich doing something else? He didn't even grow up in a bad situation and he had to stick to that. Other than Nas I dont have any respect for the extremely popular rappers anymore. People need to start listening to **** like Atmosphere, POS, Aesop Rock, Common, ect... While those guys have huge amounts of respect from the music community, they're being shadowed by guys like Jeezy who are keeping stereotypes alive.

lol, I have a friend and you have met him, and Kashime will know as soon as I mention this who I am talking about, all he does is floss like he is made of money but when you need a favor, he "aint got it." Will spend hundreds of dollars on an outfit so he can look fly, but wont spend 20 bucks on some diapers for his kids. I think that some people just feel like they have to look a certain way or act a certain way to be accepted or respected. People see money as a powerful thing and they desire that power. They think that by posing as if though they have that "papuh" they will get the respect that they think that they deserve, once again an error. You do not dictate the amount of respect that you acquire. No one does. Your actions and character speak for themselves. The things that you posses do not determine this either. unfortunately there is a huge crowd that doesnt understand this.

sorry about ur POS friend but that to me is a worthless person. A kid who depends on you to take care of him/her and u just pinch em off a lil something here and there but treat urself like a king. U lil baby will love u with every blood cell in its body no matter what and coincidentally do stuff to make u feel better (like call you daddy for the first time) when u had a bad day. and all u can do is give em a piece of fat off ur steak? definition of POS, the kind that stink so bad it sticks to ur nose hair.

Funny that Bill Cosby got crucified by leaders of the black community for basically saying the same thing.
Cosby called it how he saw it, and yes he was crucified by leaders of the black community for letting the cat out of the bag to the rest of the nation. Cosby was frowned upon because has never stood for racial injustice in his career. He piggybacked his career through it, but never voice a change in the black community.
He hops up in front of the NAACP convention and slings fire and brimstone at the black poor. It is not that the words did not need to be said, but not in that way. Cosby put himself in a situation that revealed his consternation with the black poor! He is embarrassed and wants to disconnect himself from it. A man of his statute, public appeal, and ability to voice could have done it another way. How often times does throwing someone under the bus make them change? RARELY! "There's nothing like a formerly poor black multimillionaire bashing poor blacks to lend credence to the ancient assaults they've endured from the dominant culture" (quoted, Eric Michael Dyson, Is Bill Cosby Right)
He pushed all the blame on the black poor, dismissing the past! He didnt lend a helping hand, but he slapped the black community with it. Personal responsibility is one thing, but you have things like shifts in the economy which outsource jobs and skilled labor!
If the rigidly segregated educational system continues to miserably fail poor blacks by failing to prepare their children for the world of work, then admonitions to "stay in school" may ring hollow. It is no secrect that in many areas teachers are pitiful, not willing to do their job. They become teachers to educate the youth of tomorrow, but they complain that its too hard. Giving up on children is a large contributing factor as to why many rappers say what they say! They are telling their life story to the current day (at least the real ones, lol).
And to that topic: Why do people constantly feel that rappers only rap? If they do, who cares? I refuse to accept that the music is what changes kids. Influence yes, but that is where you must educate the kids as to what is going on. Keep letting your children learn from the "block" or the "corner" and see how they turn out. I grew up listening to 3-6 Mafia (I never killed anyone), Bone Thugs (not really into devil worship), NWA (never cared to kill a cop), Snoop (never smoked a day in my life). NOW we have the Jeezy's, 50's, T.I.'s, and Luda's. My nephew has yet to sell a drug, smoke weed, skip school, drop out, etc. Stop blaming **** on music, raise the freaking children right!
Many rappers/hip-hop artist own real estate, went to college, run companies, and run business. Show the kids the brighter side of what they do, not just the surface. Soulja Boy raps about cars and clothes that his parents could not afford, but you know what, he has started his own clothing line! How about that smit? Ole stoopid ass, dumb ass, Soulja Boy did something else.
Ice Cube says is best, "Blame it on Gangsta Rap". If you havent heard it, google the lyrics and read for comprehension.

I have to say, I like this song...it's meant for entertainment purposes first and foremost and shouldn't be taken so damn seriously....
Either way, are you seriously going to base what you do or who you vote on by something an entertainer says?
Even if something he says catches your attention enough, do your research and go from there.
