It's a good start!

Loaded better the second time (after cookies were stored i guess). I would place that video somewhere else, not on the first page (probably why it loads slow).

I'm sure the site will be refined as time goes by. :goodjob:

The site is ok, takes a little long to load. Pics need to be better tho.... Especially the ones of you in the s63. The location, and cars in the background make it easy to tell that its not yours.

PM'd you.

got to 70% and closed the window.

For people to stay at your site you need to catch the viewer in about 5 sec. or they loose interest and leave. I am not on a slow connection at all and yet this seems to load very slow. Fix that and maybe viewers will stay interested in the content(which ever it may be) and stay.

I agree with the majority here, the initial load time is much too long. It is true that after the info is cached that future load times will be much less, but you are looking at making a first time impression. There are not many people who will stick around for a long load time in this age of high speed internet. People want speed and instant satisfaction. Never make the customer wait. :goodjob:

Yeah load time was easily 5 min and im on DSL 7MBPS

I think the Home page should have an ABOUT US thing on it. I mean you arent trying to show pics and video, you are trying to get people excited about working with you.

I would have the main page say something about what you do and what KennyEnt is about.

No one wants to click through pages of media to find out what it is you do.

KennyEnt is such a broad name that i think you really need to say what you are all about on the first page

kennyboi

MIKE shut up lol j/k

you are absolutely right. I am going to thank about
that tonight. But there is an about us section on the
website. I going to add something else to the home
section tho....I have no idea why its loading so slow
maybe because of the size of the media..... I'll think of
something... i really appreciate the feedback.... That
will make me think about add/changing up some things

I'm not sure you're gonna like me after this...but i'm rather opinionated about webdesign :)

1. Load time wasn't extravagant, maybe a minute or two, but for what came out of it i'm very dissapointed. if i have to wait that long it better be fricken homestar runner. Or at least something better than what it was.

2. Times new roman? Seriously?

3. You know you can make an actual copyright symbol down there at the bottom? Get on your designer about that man.

4. The times new roman ended on the contact page. Why? That seems really inconsistent and unprofessional.

5. The video on the front page really bothers me. I don't know why it's there, it adds a ton to the load time, and the guy (if that's you i'm sorry) doesn't seem to be able to say "kenny e n t dot com"...

6. On the media page, make it so the pictures and text link. I really don't like websites that need to explain to me how to navigate. If i can't figure it out on my own, i'm closing the window.

7. There's no indication of what page i'm on when i'm looking on it, the links at the bottom don't change or anything. i just clicked "media" like four times thinking my mouse came unplugged (which it does a lot, my usb slot is broken) before i realised i was already on media.

8. The site looks fine at a widescreen res (yay!) but in firefox at 1024x768 (which i believe is the most common screen resolution still, correct me if i'm wrong) i get TWO erroneous scrollbars (horozontal and vertical)...they bother the hell out of me. Five pixels smaller and those would be gone.

9. The whole flash thing right now doesn't seem to have a point. All it's doing is making shiny transitions between pages, which i could care less about since it lengthens the load time.

10. because of the flash, i can't link to individual pages.

11. Those poor models. They look so fat with their pictures stretched in the thumbnails.

12. A counter? Seriously?

13. An email form? that opens in a new window? Seriously?

14. on your "about us" page, commas go INSIDE quotation marks, and a comma is needed after "etc." Also, your sentences are repetitive in their structure.

15. When i do as the about us page says and visit the contact link, i'm greeted by a large "FOR BUSINESS ONLY" ....well i don't want to do business, i just wanted something personalized...

16. I agree with Admin. this would have looked awesome about five years ago.

17. Your website does not validate. http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.kennyent.com%2F&charset=%28detect+automatically%29&doctype=Inline&group=0
Not a huge deal when it comes to end-user usability, but your designer should know better.

since I've gotten 3 request for websites today off of this thread I'll give you some info on web development + cost.

time is money. normal developer/programmer/designer cost anywhere from 50-150$ an hour. your best bet and cheapest way to get a site that will suit your needs is do the following:

1) determine the type of site you want: personal, home business, commercial, ecom, etc

2) buy a domain (i suggest using godaddy.com it will run 9$) - prefer .com over .net, .biz, .wtf? and get a domain name that is easy for people to understand

3) get basic idea and layout ready for designer/developer - type up info + add photos to word docs; this is an easy format someone can take and run w/

once you've got that sh!t together get someone to build your site... an idea for rates... industry standard for small website $499 (no custom programming) anything above and beyond that goes up in price into whatever you can imagine $ wise. anytime you contract someone to design a site for you make sure you check out their previous work! after your site is built you will need web hosting this can range from FREE to $100s a month depending on site, server and bandwidth needed.

i don't take on many clients b/c i don't have the time and a lot of times it isn't worth my time. my normal going rate for a small no brainier site that the client has provided me everything min = $250 ($50+ an hour depends on work).

you have to understand you made a post about your site as if you were asking for constructive criticism. this is what i tell my clients, figure out what you want by finding sites that you like related to the same material you plan on building your site around. your peers/competition sites should be how you try to market yourself.

honestly for making an entertainment site the execution is very poor. reason being the flash work is weak scripting that looks like it was done back in 2000. nothing wrong with this if you were running a site where image doesn't matter. your flash should be more clean, fast and up to date. I wouldn't suggest doing a complete flash site anyway if you plan on trying to gain search engine traffic, b/c the bots can't crawl flash like they can plain jane static html. whoever is doing your site is a noob. nothing wrong with that everyone has to start somewhere, but I would suggest a completely different direction for your site. My time isn't FREE though so if your interested you know how to contact me. :goodjob:

I missed something getting edited here, but fyi, i DO know how to design a website. I considered responding to your first post, i really did, but i've never been a professional and i thought you were looking for something much more upscale. I don't think i should be paid for my work, it's a hobby. But i could have done better than this. If i was unclear about anything, let me clearly state how to solve each problem.

1. compress the flash file or do away with flash all together. Perhaps use flash only for the videos, and leave other content in standard HTML. Alternately, add homestar runner.

2. Use a better font than times new roman. Personally i like verdana, but arial has its uses.

3. the code for the copyright symbol is ©.

4. Keep one font consistent throughout the site.

5. Um...rehearse saying "kenny e n t dot com" more?

6. I don't know how i can be more clear about this one.
<a href="media.html"><img src="media.jpg"></a>
But don't ask me how to do it in flash...

7. Make the links change color or something when you're on the corresponding page.

8. Make the flash area five pixels smaller on each end. Test in all screen resolutions before publishing.

9. lose the flash.

10. lose the flash.

11. Scale the thumbnails properly.

12. lose the counter. I don't give a damn how many people have seen your site. Site popularity races are, like, SO 90's.

13. Lose the email form that opens in a new window. News flash, most people know how to access their own email and type in an address. The feedback page needs to contain nothing more than "technical problems? please write to [email protected] and include a link to the problem page."

14. fix the comma error. Your sentences continuously follow the same structure of dependent clause, independent clause. Mix it up a little! Compound/complex sentences are your friend! pick up a copy of the Little Brown Compact Handbook if you don't remember your seventh grade grammar.

15. Either change where it tells me to visit the contact page or change where the contact page essentially says "don't contact me"

16. My car is a 2007, kthx.

17. Um...correct your code? there's like, sixteen lines of code and sixteen errors. that's very technical though, i don't expect most people to have a valid website.

I know i'm being a total smartass to type this all out, but the option is doing my homework, so here i am...

*pretend like I'm quoting all of Vayda's posts here*

Wow, Vayda said everything EXACTLY as I would have said it! I'll try not to repeat too much. :o

Images should never be resized using Flash or web editing programs. They need to be properly resized in an imaging editing program like Photoshop to be resampled correctly, as to not get distorted (size stretching, noise, artifacts, etc., etc.). I think bottom line is, between the loading time and the horrible page transitions, this page does not, and should not, be in flash. There really is no point to it, and you should really stick to a format viewable by any and ALL browsers.

I'm only just viewing the website now, but I don't think making a switch from Times New Roman to Vivaldi is much of an improvement. He needs to stay away from stock fonts, and go with one of the more simplistic and modern.

And I think the videos definitely need some controls on them (play, stop, mute, etc.). Plus, I don't know how professional it is when your camera man needs to correct the subject he's filming on the name of the website he's supposed to be promoting. :o

And I just have to reiterate... 1. LOSE THE COUNTER! 2. Spell Check + Grammar fixes pronto! 3. Your designer NEEDS to use a proper copyright sign! The "c" in the parenthesizes look ridiculous.

Good luck!

Vayda

the flash thing is really a shame, because i can tell the designer has a wonderful knowledge of flash and its many intricate workings, something i will never be able to say. It's unfortunate that someone with such talent in that arena knows so little about webdesign =\

On the topic of everyone saying the site looks "so five years ago"...Five years ago website technology was vastly different. PHP wasn't used in basic webdesign, CSS was almost unheard of, and div layers were yet to be thought of. Framesets were standard and the only way to lay a website out was to use tables. iframes were the new technology. I feel nostalgic :D

to carry on the car metaphor, it's less like driving a NA Miata and more like driving a 1982 Civic. NA miatas are cool. 82 civics are old. You're driving without vtec, man.

Anyway, my point is that internet technology moves a hell of a lot faster than car tech. Flash sites from five years ago - like this - are inefficient. they take a lot of load time and burn a lot of gas. They're badly tuned carburetors. Plus, things go out of fashion. And especially if you're the future of entertainment....be on the cutting edge, yaknow?

sararose

Remember the old Geocities drag-and-drop website editors from the 90's? Or the AOL "customizable" profiles, which were actually extremely basic HTML web pages? Oooooh memories...! :lmao:

I just had to go look through archive.org to see what my first website looked like. the images are broken but man...talk about a blast from the past...
