View Full Version : *Rant alert* Why does everybody worry so much about Commerce?

Seriously, why does everybody worry so much about Commerce being slower than any other track?
What's the big deal about that? It is common knowledge that Silver Dollar is up to a sec faster at times. Ok, got it. So why not just run to run? Does the "good slip" really matter that much to you guys? What's the big deal? Everybody else is slipping and sliding if it's not prepped right? So everybody is on the same level playing field, right? Why does it matter? So it becomes more of a driver's game. You guys that scared of a "slow" slip ONE TIME?
I don't get what the issue is.
Tell me that its a 3 hour ride, fine. Tell me that your car is not legal enough to pass tech with the super anal techs there, cool. But to utterly refuse to go and run, at Tunerfest for example, simply because the track is not "prepped" to your specs.....sounds like an excuse to me to be honest. Again, isn't everybody else racing on the same non-prepped track? Well, they'll have crappy times too, right? So why worry about that? I could understand if they prepped one side and left the other like an ice skating rink, cool. I get that. That's not cool. But come on....is it really that big a deal? I mean do you guys put that much emphasis on time slips? Do yall like frame them or something? I mean, seriously, does it really matter in the end?
What I notice is that the biggest complainers are willing to race on a PUBLIC NON-PREPPED AT ALL street at the drop of a hat, yet just utterly refuse to race at the mere mention of "Commerce". Why is that?
Please elaborate. :goodjob:

Jaime it does suck and I've even had a buddy wreck there b/c of a unprepped track 2nd stage hit about 8th mile and when you have 496ci with a 200 2nd stage it can get hairy...but we still race there why? because its our home track and its nice to test at. We always use the reason of if we can make the cars hook there we can hook anywhere. and for the most part if you run the right air pressure and good suspension setup you can normally do alright. But you always want to support your local track and speed shops because you'll never know how you'll miss them until they are not there.

All I know is that when I ran at Commerce, I was running really slow times because, aside from my car I was running at the time being mostly stock, the end of the quarter is not well lit, and the actual end line is not marked. My dad came with me to watch me run, and the first run I did, when I came back he was saying I started breaking about 100' before the end of the quarter. Between it being dark and me being inexperienced it freaked me out, shooting off into the dark lol. I've never run a car fast enough to really gripe about stuff out of the box, but I know at the end it's bumpy as hell, which in a FWD car can be hell, and you see nothing and then all of a sudden you see a wall. Those are my main "gripes" with them. I've also heard about a lot of people wrecking there, and I can see where after they do Southern Nationals or another big event, the track is a mess (went to a fast friday event right after Southern Nationals and the trap was a mess).

Times aren't the worry for me really. I don't like it being slick cause I don't want to hit the wall. I think its fun to run just to run but last time I was there my tail stepped out crossing the stripe with me doing about 130.

the only prob i have with commerce is the one time i went it took me the whole night to get just one run. hell i only make 136whp so im not to worried about breaking loose or anything
EDIT: now if im in the area and got the money ill go watch in a heart beat.

Well, I do see where it gets on people's nerves about only getting a couple of runs all night long. That is annoying.
But I'm with Buddha. Yes, it sucks sometimes. Yes, I get my worst "times" there. But it is what it is. I lose 0 sleep over it. It is what it is, right?
My rant is mostly directed at those people that constantly complain, yet don't ever run there themselves. How exactly do YOU know it's "slick" if you never run there? It is doubly bad for those that complain and/or refuse to run at Commerce because it's not "prepped" right, yet gladly wager their life on a public street where people literally piss on. How's that for "prep" for ya?
That's why I think that it's just another excuse for when someone's car isn't as fast as they think it is. ;)

jaime you know your E-penis will shrink if you don't run that 12 sec pass you been running your mouth about online - i look at it this way... if the top drag racers in the world race there then it is good enough for me. see you at tunerfest :D

I really do think it really is like that sometimes.
Some people have such fragile egos that if for some reason they don't run what they think they should, so they can brag to their buddies about how uber fast their car is, they must go home and cry themselves to sleep about it and blame it on the "track".
Considering all the real important things there are to worry about in life, a time slip is certainly NOT one of those.
I mean if it's that dramatically important to you to have "slip bragging rights".....why can't you just take your Commerce time and deduct .5 sec and SAY that is what your car PROBABLY COULD run at a "better" track????? It's not like you have to have your actual time sewn into your shirt you wear around every day to be embarrassed about, right?

People just b*tch b/c they can. I will go to any track. Commerce DOESNT prep their track for Test N Tune night. Hence why the times are typically slower. SD preps like there is no tomorrow. Commerce only preps the track on big events and they still barely prep it. Thats why people complain so much. I also believe that Commerce has more money invested in their timing equipment and it is MORE ACCURATE than SD's.

It's not the best track but its good enough for test runs. Street racers FTL.
I don't race I spectate but if the track is good enough for pro's it's should be good enough for anyone and people shouldn't b!tch about it.
All tracks are different.....some are good and some arent.
If you don't like it don't go and don't ***** and whine.

Jaime,
Hopefully I have my blue whale up there that evening if Old American Muscle is welcomed! I'm getting the exhaust finished up in the morning and unfortunately I know even with my E.T. Streets I won't make much traction but it'll be fun regardless.

Is gonna be ready? Cool. I'm sure they'll let you run.
Although Sam went up there the other night just to play around, and the tech people were whining about the stupidest things. They told him he'd have to move his fuel pressure regulator because it was too close to the bell housing......and it's was damn near where the stock location is..... Ummm, what????:screwy:

HUH? Thats crazy...I've got to get a new helmet before then my old one is expired. And I need to put a drive shaft loop on. Hopefully they won't give me many problems. But yea the car is done basically just got to have the exhaust ran from the headers to the H-pipe in the morning. This motor puts around 600hp to the tires so it should be fun, especially with 12.5:1 compression lol

Yeah they're hot and cold up there when they tech. Sometimes nothing bothers them, other times a bug on the windshield and they won't let you run.
Sounds like your car is going to be one to look for next week.....:ninja: Is Tiff coming up with you?

when was the last fast friday that you went to, because they put a cap on the amount of cars that can run this year so everyone could get in plenty of runs. I'm pretty sure that the track opens at like 6pm, perhaps earlier, so you should be able to get in plenty of runs in a given friday night.

Ok... *sigh*
1) Street racing is completely homosexual. It's immature, unsafe, and ILLEGAL. Real racers go to the track to race. All you little 165hp rice-car owners out there ain't got sh!t on anything that goes up to Commerce. If you think you do, PLEASE, quit b!tching and go up there.
2) I find it funny that so many people talk sh!t about Commerce and have actually NEVER been there. I think most of the sh!t talking is due to he said she said bullsh!t, and I think that unless you've physically brought your car up to the track and raced it, you need to keep your mouths shut.
3) As far as the tech inspection goes... Yes, the Commerce tech crew is pretty strict on what can and cannot run, but there's reasoning behind it. If you people would think outside of your own little selfish worlds for once, you'd know that they don't want to put something on the track that is blatantly not prepared for the track. They're trying to save lives, not ruin them. Perhaps if you would learn to build your cars CORRECTLY then you would have no issues with passing tech.
4) To buddha@TeamFX (member.php?u=1606), I say go for it on bringing up the domestic to tunerfest. I know plenty of F-body guys that are planning on bringing up the Camaros and Trans Ams for it. Tunerfest doesn't necessarily mean import or rice. It's freaking Commerce. You know that the majority of the cars that race up there are domestic (perhaps not on fast fridays, but all the bigger races, yes).
5) AnthonyF (member.php?u=1971) vbmenu_register("postmenu_37063641", true); is totally right about Commerce investing more money into their timing system, too. So the track itself might be slower, but at least it's accurate.

I haven't asked her...I drove it home yesterday from my shop and drove it around a little with the E.T. Streets on it and at about a 30 roll it just demolishes the slicks...so I've gotta get some suspension stuff rounded up
before the weekend.

i dont know what all this talk about SDR being prepped well is all about....not trying to be an ass but for the people who say sdr is prepped well do you all race on the track more than just the events that are held there like import showdown? b/c from my experience at sdr there prep is a joke, especially for any import based event (like import showdown) and t&t...i mean for gods sake back in the day it was nothing for me to spin through 2nd on a stock d16z6
now granted i havent been on a track and actually raced, other than this past weekend, in close to 2 years, but im getting back into it, id love to hear sdr is prepping better than they have in the past b/c im going to tell you right now that if TP3 motorsports, who know owns twiggs/macon national dragway, acquires the land needed to change them into a 1/4 mile track they will put sdr out of business
the Macon National Dragway will be the track in the central GA area getting my $ from now on, even though its just a 1/8th mile track, which is where most people need to most work anyway, its basically brand new, if you think sdr preps you should come out and see how this track is done....track was leveled by Penthall, who is a track grinding firm from michigan, so the track is uber level, no bumps, no bs.....there were about 60 cars there friday night for the t&t and half way through they shut both lanes down for a few minutes, dried them off and reapplied some vht...not to mention its about 30 or more miles closer to my house in macon....so its a win-win for me
http://www.maconnationaldragway.com
i mean ****fire, i literally havent raced a car since i had my cobra almost 2 years ago, got back into the seat friday night and hit a 2.0 60' on dunlop street tires with 32psi in them
