So I was wondering if anyone has any experience between these two colleges? I go to Georgia Southern now and am majoring in Mechanical Engineering, but was wondering about the Mechanical Engineering program at Southern Polytechnic. How reputable is SPSU vs. GSU? I would choose GA Tech but the credits will not transfer over due to my field of study is physics based and Tech teaches it with a calculus base.

Stay at GSU. Several of my friends (and an old roomy) have engineering degrees from GA Southern, doing well. The school is still rising, and is backed by the state and national organizations.
Good Luck. GA SOUTHERN ownz SPSU!

I would say Georgia Southern is a lot more reputable then Southern Poly, despite the fact that Georgia Southern would have more of a partying outlook i still feel like it has people who are more serious about academics. Southern Poly has always seemed like a typical community college to me.
Atleast the kids i know that go there don't give two ****s.

I've actually heard a lot of good things about southern Poly... Think they are both good schools though.

As much as i hate to say this i would recommend going to Clemson (I ****ing hate them) or Auburn, both have good engineering programs. Its no GA Tech, but its a better student lifestyle that would be a tad bit easier.
If you can afford it both great schools when it comes to Academics while having fun

GSU is a ****hole. Southern poly is the known as one of the best engineering schools in the south east for a reason. They have the second best construction management program, second best to Georgia Tech where I plan to finish.
I hate GSU. I hated living there, all I did was drink and smoke way too much ganga. I couldnt get a job and could not stand frat boys. Thus I go to southern poly now and am much happier.

actually. SPSU doesnt have Mech Engineering. They have Mech Engineering Technology... its the best Engineering Technology school in the south though. The major is slightly different than Mech Engineering. You can still become a certified professional engineer though. Its a very broad field.
But theres no girls though.

My friend goes to SPSU for Mechatronics....Lol He says it's a good school, I know he scouted around the area, so I trust his opinion. His username is PRODIGY.

SPSU def. has one of the most reputable engineering programs in the South. A degree from there can carry a lot of weight. Some companies specifically look for SPSU grads. I know my buddies fathers electronic engineering company looks specifically for SPSU students and interns and he's a tech grad!! Also, I believe they are one of the few schools that offers mechatronics and their S.A.E team tromps tech every year and is very competitive nationally

Not trying to be a ****, but didn't you need like a 900 on the SAT to get into Southern Poly?

I would hope they require a higher score than that.

i mean i know people that were borderline mentally retarded that got in. Just the biggest druggies imaginable.
I just have a hard time listening to talk of them whooping on GA Tech.
I will hate on Tech all day when it comes to sports, but they deserve a lot of respect for their academics in engineering, mechanics, biology, and the sort

I have a lot of friends who graduated from Tech. They are some very smart mofo's. Don't seem right anyone whooping Tech academically.
