Yesterday afternoon, I had a very promising phone interview with Daniel Defense in Savannah.

It looks like the next step is a phone conversation with the Director of Marketing and then...hopefully...head down to Savannah next week for an on-site interview.

So, wish me luck in this. This would solve about 99.99999% of my problems.

.....I can see this thread dying pretty quickly.

Good luck! Let me know if you want me to put you in touch with some cool people in Savannah.. I lived there for 2 years and know a lot of military and non-military people down there that would be glad to go out for a beer and welcome you to the city.

As far as living in Sav goes, stay away from downtown. Southside is probably the best area to live, or Georgetown if you are ok with being about the same difference from downtown as Arcade - Athens.

But, Good luck and I hope you get the job if it's what you wanna do!

Good luck with the interviews man. Hopefully you'll get the job. Always nice to be able to say you are employed especially in this economy. Keep us posted.

Live outside Sav if possible. You can go downtown, but know exactly where you are going; visit, party, **** around, but leave immediately after!

Good luck!

Thanks for the info. Is the Forsythe Park/Riverwalk area nice? If we go for a townhome, we'll probably be no more than one block between the two. The job is out by the airport and there's some decent options in Poole. Is this a decent area?

Google street view by the way.....awesome!!

Pooler is a nice growing area. Close to the airport and away from the goons of Savannah :D

I recommend Pooler over Forsythe Park. Even the nicest areas in downtown Savannah are still bumping up against the edge of the ghetto. The crime rate is extremely high, and I'm not gonna lie.. when I was living downtown I never really felt 100% safe. I had 2 cars broken into and I got held at knifepoint, so I guess that's why. Southside is less bad, but my friends got chased down and shot at for no apparent reason, on Southside. I was actually looking at moving to Pooler when I decided to move back to Athens... We could have rented a decent ranch style house with a backyard and stuff for not a lot of money. I would say go to Pooler. It's about the same to go from Pooler to Savannah as to go from Jefferson to Athens (15-20 mins) and it's just hopping on the highway and coming right in, so you can definitely easily party in Savannah/whatever, but you don't have to deal with living to Savannah.

Thanks.

If I get the job, I'd like to move into something like this

http://www.rentlist.net/classifieds/upload/newrentals.24514.1.jpg

That way, I can park one or two outside while working on #3 in the garage.
Plus I'm thinking about moving my wife's grandparents down with us if they want. Something like this would do for the first year, then I'd most definitely buy once things were good and stable.

***UPDATE***

I've been waiting anxiously for a call from Daniel Defense, and today that call came! Bypassing a phone interview they invited me down to Savannah for an interview on Thursday. So...tomorrow, I'll go conduct the photo shoot I have planned, come back home, pick up the wife and kid and head down to Savannah for the evening.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little nervous. While my background and experience well qualifies me for the position, I am a little concerned over leaving the automotive industry I have so fallen in love with. This departure will of course only be professional, as only the gates of hell/and or heaven can separate me from the love of all things automotive.

After the interview, my family and I are going to check out the local area and look at a few housing options (including the one above).

So... once again...for those that know me....or even care.....wish me luck. We'll see what happens.

So... I went to the interview and....I am 99.99999% sure that I will be receiving an offer from them within the next few days. I even think we've found a house.

Basically, it's all good so far. Just waiting for the call.

Thanks for the well wishes, for those that even care.

good luck man. sounds like you are ahead of a lot of people out there. you know what you wanna do with your life and it sounds like you have the right people in mind, your wife and kids and even her family, because even when times are rough and it seems like you have no one to turn to, your wife will still be there to back you up, and your kids will always be there looking up to you. good luck with your journey. i have a friend in savannah as well if you need some camaro buddies lol

IT'S OFFICIAL!

Daniel Defense just called about an hour ago and made a great offer. I have accepted.

Starting September 22nd, I will be the Marketing Manager.

Thank you all for your well wishes.

<for those of you who know my co-workers at Maxxis, please keep this on the downlow until Wednesday when I can submit my notice. thanks>

Leaving Atlanta will be bittersweet, but I'll just be down the road, so it won't be that bad.

Hellz yah! I'll have to check that out once I get settled in. Thanks for the congrats. I'll always be a gearhead regardless if my paycheck is fueled by engine power or not!

Funny...the main criteria for the house we move into is that it has enough space a big enough garage to store and work on my cars!!

I am in the military down here in savannah. I live in Richmond Hill and I love it. It gets me out of the busy savannah BS and keeps me far enough away from work. I have purchased quite a few daniel defense rail systems and would love to get some freebies.. hint hint.. so with that being said get in touch with me if you need some help with anything.

It's amazing!

Not even on the job a day and the inevitable marketing wake-up call is already coming.
FREE FREE FREE!!

Giant - sounds good. We looked around Richmond Hill this past weekend and it was nice. We've found a place right off of 16/95 that's awesome, and will hopefully move in there.

Hit me up in a few weeks when I've settled in. I'll need to get to a car community ASAP!
