I agree, it has S-Class hints all over the place.
The sides look RL-ish and the rear looks like an Infiniti.

Its 41k loaded I think. Not too bad. The wheels and stock grille could look better IMO.

I read in an interview that 85%+ of all the cars they sell are the "Limited Edition" models.

So they figured the market was open for a high-er end car. I think they'll sell a few of those but I dont think they're gonna steal the Lexus/Merc/BMW market much. The folks out buying Maximas, V6 Accords and Camrys will probably be the ones to step up to this. For 15k more you get a near-luxury car with a V8 and all the other goodes like a 437 speaker sound system...lol

My dad's been bonkers about this thing, and I gotta admit, it does seem like Hyundai is getting in to play with the big(ger) boys these days.

Genesis has a V8, and its not in the class with the Maxima/accord/camry... it is gunning for the high end luxury cars.

Hyundai still has the Azera, and the Sonata, for the accord/camry crowd.

The base model has a 3.8L 6-banger at a base price of 32k.

I just looked up the camry - the XLE V6 is 30 to 35k

The Optional V8 with the Tech package puts it at 42 with a ZF tranny. Not bad!

If that average person can look past the name on the car, i think they will sell like hotcakes.... But %90 of the people i talk to think i'm nuts when I tell them i want a hyundai. They seem to think that they are unreliable, and will fall apart after 25k miles.

Hyundai is not Kia!

They put a lot of money into these cars and they're enjoying international success. Being stuck up on a brand is kinda lame.

?

Hyundai looks a bit like Lexus. (I'll get to BMW) Especially in the hips. Lexus looks a bit like Mercedes. Jaguar looks like Aston (Big surprise) Aston looks a bit like Mercedes. Infiniti likes stealing from Mercedes for the M and Q. Lexus stole the looks of the new IS-F from the Infiniti G coupe...

And all of them have stolen the BMW rear-window curve. All of them. Why is it any surprise that Hyundai did the same thing? The only thing that looks much like Merc lately is the proportions, but the Genesis concept for the sedan was around before the new C class design, so if you look at it like that then Merc stole the proportions for the new C class from Hyundai.

And why should we be surprised that any of these people copy each other? If it makes cars that look better then what can we really say wrong? A 93 honda accord and 93 nissan sentra look alot more familiar than the Genesis Sedan and anything else on the road today.

I disagree. The Genesis is not bland and ugly like the RL.

Those pics are hawt, Hyundai took styling cues from BMW, Infiniti, Benz, Lexus and made it work.

looks really, really nice.

I guess the 37k for the V8 is inline with other comparable cars?

As long as the price is right you got the 100k mile warranty and it looks great. debadge as needed.

Looks sorta like a s550 and a 550i and a RL mixed. But somehow it looks good. Nice find! Also the pictures from the car show are making it look even better!

Half the interior stuff they pulled off from high end vehicles. They took the idea of 17 speakers from Bently and Rolls Royce. Freaking a that's just so much sound.

Try 20k less. The Lexus/Benz/BMW V-8s all start at 55k or higher!! This is a relative bargain.

I been seeing them by the Hyundai office over by six flags! It's the best bang for the dollar at it starting price and it's ending price. Ain't the RL over 50k? for what?

I think they are the same thing in a way, they share a lot of the same cars.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyundai_Kia_Automotive_Group

My girlfriend had a Kia, that was the worst car I've ever had to deal with. It looked pretty good, but I would rather drive a Cavalier, at least I would get where I wanted to go.
Yeah, this car looks a lot better than the TL and TSX that have just come out, but I would sacrifice looks for a car I could rely on past the ten years and 100k miles. You don't need that warranty if you have dependability. Maybe I'm just a jerk though.

Financial ownership doesnt really mean all that much.

Fiat owns Ferrari, Ford owns Volvo, GM owns Saab etc etc... It only matters so much.

Kia's philosophy is to sell super-cheap POS cars that break constantly. They rake in money by selling flimsy parts that cost as much as BMW parts. Interesting business model.

In my opinion Hyundai is actually trying to make decent cars and capture the market thats looking for "bang for buck". The cheap bastards of the bunch - and there are quite a few of those around!

Hyundai isnt a lightweight player either. They literally own the worldwide goods shipment industry, its quite scary.

Kia was a failed product line. They should just kill it and be done with it.

okra1981
08-15-2008, 12:29 PM
Hyundai Azera = Kia Amante; Sonata = Optima; Entourage = Sedona; Accent = Rio; Tucson = Sportage.
If they wanted to separate themselves so much, then why do they share so many platforms with Kia? If they admitted that they used the same cars, then they could gear their companies towards different markets and share a few platforms and work together like Acura/Honda, Lexus/Toyota/Scion, or Cadillac/Chevrolet. I understand that Fiat owns Ferrari, but they don't share the same vehicles and target the same audience, but maybe this is why they've come up with Genesis, I respect anyone that wants to separate themselves from Kia, my girlfriend did and we'll never go back.

Atlblkz06
08-15-2008, 12:35 PM
I didnt know they were sharing platforms, thats news to me. Are they built in the same location? The platforms may be sound, but from what I know Kia cars have really cheap parts that wear out easily. They get you with the replacement cost for these cheap parts. Ultimately you end up paying big bucks on a super-cheap car.

Is this correct?

I'm not trying to argue with you. I'm just trying to figure out what their business model is.

Its my opinion that Hyundai is making an honest effort to compete with Honda and Toyota. Kia seems to be their attempt to scam folks who want a super-economy car.

Thoughts?

I'm suprised. Not to bad.

okra1981
08-15-2008, 01:55 PM
I agree about Kia being pretty horrible and overpriced when it comes to parts. I'm not sure if the cars are even built in the same factories either, but that isn't uncommon, most GM vehicles are built in different factories even if they share a platform as well.
I didn't mean for my statements to sound like I'm trying to bash anybody, I just really hate Kia and their overpriced parts.
As far as a business model, it seems like Hyundai has much more going for it than a lot of companies, GM and Ford included. They definitely know what they're doing and seem to be moving towards a better product. Gearing their new concept, Genesis, after Mercedes and Rolls is a great example.
If they could straighten out Kia, as a parent company, or try to move themselves further from the image of what Kia stands for, then they will definitely be contenders for some of the higher range of automobiles.
