Someone hacked my email account and I cannot login. This account is a contact account for some of my banking and bill pay. Whoever, whatever hacked my account sent out emails to all of my contacts saying that I was stranded in West Africa without wallet, money, passport, etc. and to send 2000.00 to help me return home. Weird, huh? I guess my real question is:

Will reporting this issue actually resolve anything? (As I have already done)
&
Can they get money out of my actual banking accounts?

I keep a rather complicated passwords for these accounts, is this email now useless?

Wouldn't someone have had to install a program on my computer for that?

they can do it in many ways:

keylogger can be installed when a user opens a file attached to an email

a keylogger can be installed when a file is launched from an open-access directory on a P2P network

a keylogger can be installed via a web page script which exploits a browser vulnerability. The program will automatically be launched when a user visits a infected site;

a keylogger can be installed by another malicious program already present on the victim machine, if the program is capable of downloading and installing other malware to the system.
