took my car to get emissions it fail on the NOx ppm it read 1152 and whats allowed is 773. my car is a 92 sc300. i asked the guy what it means and he said its not burn enough fuel and someone else said that it didnt have a comp so he would have to go through the whole car to find the prob. and a third person told me tha it means it has to much carbon build up.....any ideas?

NOx is simply put burned HC's. it is read in parts per million(ppm). too much NOx can be related to a failed egr valve. has you check engine light come one

no. the onlt light that comes on is the o/d light cause it used to be an auto and my abs light but thats cause it has dirt in one of the sensors. thats it tho.

If its a OBD1 car meaning 92-95 then no check engine light dont come on.. NOX is to much heat in the exhaust could be a egr valve but most likely it will be a bad CAT...But if the cat burned up then something might have caused it to go bad, faulty tuneup , bad O2 sensor , ETC

Start with the EGR, most can be cleaned without replacing it. Then check o2 sensors. You should know if the cat has gone bad, because all of your other numbers on the emissions test would have been high too.

yea its OBD1. is there a way to find out what the problem is exactly with out have to just start buying parts...lexus is way proud of their stuff so i cant afford to much...lol

this is what my emisions reads.....(25/25 test)HC ppm= reading 7 allowed 111, CO% 0 allowed .61, CO+CO2% 14.5, NOx ppm 1152 allowed 773.

(50/15) test HC ppm 12 allowed 114, CO% .17 allowed .63, CO+CO2% 14.4, NOx ppm 686 allowed 853

I'd try cleaning or replacing the EGR. My car has an EGR vaccum hose which was leaking causing me to fail, it was an easy fix.

yea ill try that....im gonna seafoam it too maybe that will help

Wrong NOX an HC yes but not all of them! But on honda/acura the nox being high can also be just the cat..Not all cars has EGR valves either...)2 sensor will not make NOX be high only CO HC..And you cant clean a EGR valve an it be fixed you can clean the ports but if a egr is causing its b/c its bad...

I have seen SEAFOAM makes the test worse than helps!B/c it makes the exhaust temps higher, there for your NOX gets higher!

Depending on how high the NOX was you can take it to a emission tester an let it cool down for about hour or so then retest it , an it might pass! I have done this mannny times out my shop!

it passed on the 50/15 test with no problem but it failed on the 25/25 test.the NOx was 1152 and only 773 is allowed...if i seafoam it i would chang the plugs in it as soon as i am do and that takes about an hour or so....

changed.... with mobil 1

i pmed you.... and one more thing.... go get a "guaranteed to pass emissions" thing you put in your oil.... it at auto zone/ advance. and use that too :)

or you might need new O2 sensor!!!!!

GOOD LUCK!

If all else fails adjust your timing....it helped my girls car by like 2000ppm bc her readings were 4300reading and 1200ppm allowed....with 2 degree difference on the timing she is close to passing.....

just got buy some de-natured alcohol and pour it in your tank. they sell it at home depot. there's 2 sizes, a gallon can and a smaller one. get the smaller one & pour the whole thing in your tank. don't buy that "guaranteed pass" stuff.

All the shltt yall telling him isnt going to help!!!! everything yall are telling him is going to raise the NOX levels way beyond what it is now!!!! Listen to what I have been telling you!!!! O2 sensor will not affect the NOX levels!!!! Only HC CO...Oil change will not even come close to dropping a .1 point in anything!! yall all are NOOBS when its coming to this so stop telling him stupid an wrong shltt!!!

Oil change will make a huge impact on older cars, run an older cars that has some blow by with dirty oil and run it with clean, if you don't see a difference then you are a tard. My Corrado will not pass with the current ECM program unless I change the oil, I am guessing you are a technician too, so next time you have a car that won't pass emissions do just that and compare the numbers.

ACTUALLY!!!! retarding didn't do **** for my car. ADVANCING it did. retarding it doesn't always do it, it just depends on the car. :)

Ok....you can stop being a f**king d**k!!!!! I was just helping out the man.....I didn't say to retard or advance bc I don't know about his car and it's different from mine....I'm f**king emission certified and they give u a piece of paper saying that if you fail NOx, the things that can affect it are but are not limited to ....O2 sensor...timing...cat.... and egr....soooo if you wanna be a d**k go ahead....just don't talk s**t!!!! Were all just here to try and help each other out!!!!!1
