So I need some help. I have an 89 5spd coupe and its not starting. I went to the car wash and cleaned my car yesterday. Then I drove to a friends house and parked my car. A friend called because he blew a tire and wanted help so I went to my car and it wouldn't start. Its not turning over or anything. Electronics are on and working but it won't crank. We had to push it down a hill to get it to start so I could get home again.. I don't know whats wrong.

Can anyone help me?

Could be your starter... did you wash the engine? check your fuse to the starter...

Dirt holds 240's together, never wash your car again.

Got it out. Got it checked. Its fine...
They told me its the clutch starter switch (neutral safety switch)

Huh, wouldn't have guessed that (obviously)... I don't think my "safety" switch ever worked.

Sorry for steering ya wrong.

if u wanna check that go under your steering column where the clutch pedal is, there's a two wire plug that connects to a switch on the clutch pedal assembly... unplug this plug and find something to connect these two pins together on this switch (paper clip, staple, some wire) and see if your car starts then...

I tried that with the ignition switch and it didn't help. I'll go try with the one you said and see how it goes. Thanks!

Wait, is it the plug behind the clutch, or in front of the clutch?

i cant remember its the one that the clutch pedal hits when you've completely depressed the pedal

does it make any type of noise when u turn the ignition key? like a popping or tapping noise?

Battery is fine. Its brand new.

The only noise that we've heard came from around the air intake area and it was a clicking I think, my dad heard it each time I turned the key.

hm... if its a really fast clicking/tapping sound its ur starter for sure. go to another store and have them check ur starter (if its still out)
Edit: :lmfao::lmfao::lmfao: at ur sig... i love those things

I don't think its the starter because the starter is on the opposite side of the motor from the clicking..
And also, they put their starter on the tester and it performed the same way mine did.

I would say start checking for shorts then. When you turn the key does the dash lights dim/go off?

hmm. check your battery agian. get a voltmeter or try another one like your friends just for a second. usally when i hear clicking like that from any car it usally needs a jump because the battery is dead. even tho its brand new it could be defective or have a dead cell. just doulble check it just to make sure to cover all your areas.

Yeah, Lights come and and everything. HUD turns on. Stereo works...
I've checked all the fuses under the hood.

We tried jumping the car yesterday off my friends 300zx. Nothing happened.

Wow my prelude is doing exactly this. Like down to a t. I cant figure it out either. I have to open my door push myself backwards and pop it to get it going its really gay. I have also tried all the same stuff as you and no luck.

check relay and fuses.... could be a bad relay...also check if you have proper grounding, check for any loose ground cables and check the cables that connect to the starter...
